Pugs are bred to be companions and companions only! They tend to serve their fuction pretty dam well I think. but how much of the standards are cosmetic only? - The Australian Shepherd Standard still calls for a docked tail. And what about breeds who appear to serve no function (not sure about this but maybe a pug - what are they meant to do?)? - I don't follow. Nonsporting breeds are designed to be companions to the best of my knowledge? True! Good blimmin point. In my early hour daze I forgot about that bit, so disregard that LOL What I am truly asking, is how many of the standards are really bettering the breed and how many are purely cosmetic I guess. Maybe the pug would come into the case where perhaps the spine bends a little to get a tight corkscrew???? Not sure, but hopefully that explains what I am asking a little better. The pug standard was changed a smidge not to long back to stop people breeding to the exteme. Things like nose and eye rolls were getting to big. No idea what your on about with bent spines I have one here with a straight tail (obvious fault) and one with a double twist there is no different in how they move or in their spines...ones tails just curls the other doesnt. Can you expand on that at all? I know there was one of those Pedigree Dogs Exposed shows a while ago which talked about Pugs having bent spines, maybe that is what the OP is talking about? I know little about Pugs, except that they're greedy and cute as buttons Ah yes and wasnt that a brilliant show

I'd lovvvvve a peke! no one else I speak to likes them!! I love their attitude and spunk!!! Those people have rocks in their heads! Theres an aussie breeder round here that has a very old peke who is not only an aust champ but has a crap load of obedience titles...shes one special peke! One day when I have the time for the grooming I will have one! ETA if i have the time to groom I will have a Havanese two! They would probably be the only two coated breeds Id ever own!

Yeah I dont want to even think about how many toys we have here, they do kill them thou, so I guess that helps keep the numbers down!

Just cause a dog has a kennel doesnt mean they will use it. I have a kennel here, my boy instead chooses to sleep inside the brick BBQ out the back dring the day Of a night he is in his crate which has no tray in it any more cause he ate the plastic one and bent the metal one to the point that if I left it in there he would have hurt himself! So he gets a towel at the start of each week or a doona if I can find one at the op shop and thats it! Usually it lasts a week but is a jumbled mess after one night!
-
One of mine sleeps on concrete with a towel...he rips the towl up after a night so usally its just a shredded towl. Ive tried to give him better beds but hes never greatful, he just kills it!

Right now I need for the big pointee to go away she is being pathetically loving atm and wont leave me alone...keeps wandering over and putting her head on my arm and just staring at me...FREAK! Also I wants a boy pointer...need to even out the boy to girl ratio in this house hold...too many BITCHES!
-
thats the pic i showed OH last night. I love black pointers, liver are good too. I told OH that I would love 4 dogs all at once(jokingly) and while he said he'd never stop me those words are pure manipulation. Since i know its not the right time and because I already feel spoilt by my first dog. he knows it too, bugger. Well she doesnt have to come NOW... I can send her next week!

Pointer...you want one of the book ends?

At my currently place all the neighbours have pure dogs. We have a jack russel one side, a boxer on another side, a poodle on one half of the back yard who also lives with a cav and 2 x staffys over the other side of the back yard. No idea wether they are from registered breeders, Im not into chatting with the neighbours!

Buying From A Breeder's Very First Litter
Nevafollo replied to Hemingway's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is true but what if the more knowledgeable breeder is the breeder having the first litter? Some people learn and show and help other people for years before they breed, therefore probably have more knowledge than someone on their 10th litter who has never been to a show or had a mentor to show them the ropes. -

I have also...definately no regrets! -
Nup, I'd never wear jeans! Skirt or pants I prefer pants...I look silly in skirts! And I dont mind some of the bright suits...saw the line up for the working dog group recently and the first 3 breeds were handled by males wearing bright colour suits, one pink, one lime green and one red...now THAT was too much for the eyes!

Nup no hunting here for my girl. Ive watched her stalk and hunt birds, butterlies or whatever in the yard and I'm sure she has it in her to be trained to hunt but its not something I'm interested in. ( Right now because she isnt trained to know any better she stalks and points ect but rigggghtttt at the last minute she goes all spazo and crazy which usually results in said bird/butterfly or whatever flying/running away LOL) Have to agree with your theory everything I've heard about Pointers basically supports the fact that they are less crazy/nutso/energizer bunny than GSPs, Wei's and most similarish gundogs!

I choose my breeds because they are the best breeds in the world...nuff said!

Hitting The Ring For The First Time

Congrats Evolving she...or he? Is abit beyond cute! Whats this new little ones name? -
I agree their must have been a reason you chose the breeder you did...go back over why then see if the new breeder ticks all the same boxes then decide. Personally I'd stick with the original plan unless the new breeder was infact better, nicer dogs and had exactly what I wanted!
