Totally agree Dory, but apparently there's a waiting list for these special pooches, and she was willing to wait 6 months until the next litter !! meanwhile we sit and wait up to 3 years for the rarer breeds. You know, those bred for "therapy" coz everyone knows that a therapy dog doesn't need special training, it's all in the breeding

Talking to a good friend last night about her new puppy. It'a "sishon" and it was specially bred as a therapy dog *Bangs head against wall She's not stupid, and she knows the whole pet shop / puppy farm stuff, but still, how does an intelligent person still fall for this marketing crap?

I used to use eucalyptus bark as a mulch in my yard.... until Fleming reacted to it. It wasn't so much the eucy mulch itself, but the dust that came with it. He's OK if I put it out and dampen it down to get rid of the dust (and he does like lying in it). Just something to be aware of. Can't help with the urine draining side of it though as they have a wee-spot that's dirt.

Thank you so much for all of your kind words, they are very comforting. Yesterday I bought a plant for her - a beautiful grevillea with blossoms the same colour as her. Mum (who loved her grand-dog nearly as much as I did) and I will plant it tomorrow for her, and raise a glass of wine in Tess' honour. I am truly blessed to have had her in my life.

Tonight I said goodbye to my beautiful girl. I had been looking for a dog for a few months, and was trawling through rescue sites but nothing struck my fancy. This was to be 'my' first dog, I was in treatment for depression & anxiety, and I knew I had to wait for the right one. On a whim I checked out the RSPCA website. And there she was. In the 'last chance club', she'd been saved for over 3 months. I took one look at her photo and just knew. When I collected her they put out an announcement over the loud speaker to all staff... "Tess is going to her forever home". It took us over 30mins to leave as all the staff wanted to say goodbye. Very quickly I discovered her love of balls. So did the local soccer club (and we changed our walking route :) ). A large dog in a Neighbourhood of swf's, she quickly made friends with dogs and people, but particularly the kids. I know more 10 yr olds now than I ever have. Tess enhanced my life so much as a dog owner I ventured into the world of dog rescue. I made some wonderful friends, rehomed some beautiful dogs, and then I met Fleming. 7 years later he is still here. My beautiful gentle giant is gone. I am distraught. I have some beautiful memories of her. Walking in Centennial Park and having people stop us for a pat (and a big dog lean). Sitting on the sofa only to have her climb up and try to sit on my lap. Or shove her head in my armpit for another head rub. Rest in peace my girl. You are now pain free.

I did one of those community college 'know your camera' type courses way way back. One of the best 'lessons' was: Pick an object that is static but moving - like a fountain Take a photo with the lowest aperture setting, then take a pic with the next lowest, and then the next lowest, working up to the highest. Check the difference Then do the same with the shutter speed It was a really good visual lesson in what you can see with focus, depth of field, background, and a lot of other technical words I no longer remember :)

I realised that Tess turns 13 this month Not bad for a big girl, considering I thought I'd nearly lost her a few months ago. For a treat she got a new doona cover and pillow case for her single mattress bed (which takes up most of the lounge-room floor LOL). Here she is doing what she does best - sleeping :D
