  1. I'm seriously considering upgrading my point & shoot to an SLR. I've had SLR's previously, but years ago back in the days of film I'm 99% sure I'm going to get a Canon, but then I read all the info on body types and models and I just get all confused. I will be the first to admit that I'm 'challenged' when it comes to reading technical information - it all turns into gobbledygook ! The major contributing factor is price (of course). I'm quite happy to buy something second hand so discontinued models are definitely in consideration, and honestly are pretty well the only things I can afford. What I'm looking for is a good, decent all-round SLR. I don't need fancy bells & whistles, but nor do I want something that will be completely obsolete in a few years (or not working as it's too old). I understand Canon's modelling system (ie a 7D is better than a 5D, and a 5D is better than a 50D), but what I don't understand is HOW they are better, or by how much (if that makes sense). So here's my question to DOLers - what's a good model to start looking at? Is there a big difference between one model & the next one? TIA
  2. Fleming is a Belgian Shepherd with 3 legs. Very similar situation actually, came in to rescue with what was a 'minor' injury, only to realise it was quite major, requiring expensive surgery with a long recuperation period. From a physical aspect, your foster will probably bounce back a lot quicker from amputation rather than surgery which requires a long resting / crating period, particularly for a working breed. That was the decision that tipped us with Fleming - he'd go absolutely bonkers being crate confined for the 6 week rehabilitation period. As to the possibility of injuring his remaining back leg, you need to look at the odds of that happening. ie if the hock damage is hereditary then the chances are higher than if it was from an accident. Rehoming a 3 legged dog is a lot harder than a 4 legged one. I really thought Fleming would go based on the sympathy factor. Considering it's 4 years later and he's still with me says something about that ! You really need to take into consideration that he may not be rehomed. Oh, and having 3 legs hasn't stopped, or slowed Fleming down at all. In fact, he's actually better as he was in so much pain beforehand he wasn't doing much at all. Agility, obedience, fly-ball - none of these should be an issue for an active otherwise healthy pooch. Flemo's going lure-coursing this weekend Best of luck with your decision, but at the end of the day you have to make the best decision for the dog in the long term. If you can't possibly keep him, and you don't think you'll rehome him, then PTS is the best option
  3. Lots of healing hugs being sent your way for Mindy
  4. Barring any major catastrophe, I'll be there with my two. Is that the Virginia Recreation Park? Google Maps doesn't recognise State Shooting Park !!
  5. Oh poor Pele (and poor you). Hope the lump isn't too serious.....
  6. So glad to hear CJ is fine & all her pups are here. Enjoy he puppy breath
  7. Kinsella, that is a fabulous idea, but the Deshonko product is so well trained that the extreme walker walked backwards with me. That just doubled the one-sided effort.
  8. Well I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I purchased your 'extreme walker' last year, and while I can say the product delivered, it only delivered ON ONE SIDE. I now have one very firm right butt check, and a right arm that Arnie would be proud of, but it doesn't matter what I do, I cannot get the extreme walker to work on the left side. I have been left looking very lopsided, and despite numerous correspondence with your local supplier, I am yet to be given a solution to my lopsided problem. Colour is not an issue, unless you have the Rare Blue variety.
  9. This is something I'd love to do with my two. Tess will probably get puffed out half way, and Fleming will just keep going & going so long as he think's the lure is a cat I cant' do much in the way of helping re phone calls & stuff, but I can do internet research at work :D Tess is a Wolfie x, Fleming is a Belgian Shepherd.
  10. So glad to hear they got clear vet checks. Hope Chevy's pain goes soon but more importantly that they aren't too traumatised over the whole ordeal. Thank goodness they have a loving wonderful home which will help them on their path to recovery.
  11. Oh so glad to hear the girls are home. Fingers crossed that vet checks are all clear and pups are all healthy.
  12. Glad to hear there is progress Carlo. This fostering lark can be bluddy hard work, but it's full of rewards as well, and those small progressive steps make it all worthwhile. I don't know anything about the breed so can't offer any advise, but please keep us posted on how Kenya is going.
  13. I had to duck home and was driving down a reasonably quiet street when this gorgeous Cav ran right out into the road in front of me. Gave me such a fright - I slammed on the brakes, then slowly drove forward praying like mad there wasn't a squashed dog on the road. Thank heavens I'd missed it, and it ran merrily off up the road, followed by another little cav. I followed them up a side street, and there they were in the driveway of this house - the garage door was open and the car doors were all open but no-one was around. So I started yelling out 'hello' and this woman FINALLY came out, I said to her your dogs were running on the road and all she said was 'oh I was looking for her'. So I politely told her that they were running down on the big road, and I'd nearly hit her dog and maybe it was a good idea to keep them in. She started yelling at me & told me to relax Stoopid f****ng ignorant woman, I was so riled up I was going to give her a huge serve, but just walked away. My heart is still pounding. Rant over, thanks
  14. They're gorgeous babies Congratulations, and glad to hear the ice man is doing well
  15. He's a stunner Ruthless. Is he officially a failure yet?
  16. Sending loads of healing vibes to Amber from the MW household. Hugs to you JulesP
  17. Well I learnt a lesson today - stop hanging my bras off the end of the bed & put them away. Fleming got himself tangled !!!! Luckily it happened when I came home and he got off the bed to greet me so he wasn't stuck all day. I knew something was wrong when I opened the door and only Tess was there & I could here this squeaking coming from the bedroom (frustration, not from short breath) - he'd managed to get his head through one armhole which ended up around his chest, and of course only got so far before the elastic stopped him. It was kind of funny, but it was a bit of a warning too - he could have ended up with it wrapped around his throat. So, no more being lazy - the bras are getting put away

  20. I've never boarded my two before but I'm going to Sydney for a long weekend in early September so will need to board them then. Does anyone know of a good boarding kennel in Adelaide? Not too fussed where as I'll drive to put them in a good one. TIA.
  21. Oh no poor Gary. RIP Banjo
  22. Recently Tess hasn't been herself, and she's been drinking & weeing huge amounts. The vet ruled out diabetes, and got bloods done for a number of things (kidney, liver, cushings etc), and today all her tests came back all clear. She said that Tess probably has Diabetes Insipida. It's not life threatening in any way, just means she drinks & wee's a lot Now I've heaved a big sigh of relief, I was wondering if anyone else's dog has ever had it? Apparently it's pretty rare.
