  1. Happy anniversary HW (and all the other 10-yearers :) ) I don't post a lot but I read a heap, and I'm always impressed with the wealth of knowledge available. I wouldn't have my beautiful Fleming if it wasn't for DOL - he's a failed foster :D Wow - I just realised I'm coming up for 8 years myself - I thought it was about 5 !!
  2. Sending tonnes of positive healing vibes to Astro. Fingers crossed he pulls through
  3. Happy birthday beautiful girl. I hope you had a great day and enjoyed your cake
  4. Hugs to you CBD. He was a beautiful boy, and very much loved by the sounds of it. Take care of yourself
  5. So sorry Kajtek. RIP beautiful girl.
  6. A perfect name for a perfect pooch for you. She's gorgeous skyefool
  7. So sorry for your loss Wednesday. She was certainly a beautiful girl. RIP Viva
  8. Thanks trifecta :) I don't think a thundershirt will solve anything, and he really is OK once he's inside and 'safe'. I'll just keep an eye on him and if he starts getting really distressed have a chat to the vet about valium or some sort of a sedative.
  9. I'm guessing they must do. It can be literally hours later that it finally hits which is when I then go "aha, that's why Flemo was hiding in the bushes". I know I can sometimes feel or smell when a storm is coming - and dogs are a lot more sensitive than us. I wonder what distance they can hear to? I doubt it's hearing with Fleming when the thunder is so much later. Strange dogs :D
  10. So sorry to hear this keetamouse. RIP Poncho
  11. Fleming loves to be outside when I'm home during the day, and curls up under his favourite bushes. He always wants to come in of an evening though, and as soon as the sun starts setting he's at the back door wanting to come in. I've noticed recently that there are a few occasions where he really doesn't want to come in, and displays behaviour he normally shows when he's scared. I've now realised that on those occasions there will always be a thunderstorm a few hours later. Neither of my dogs have been concerned by thunder storms in the past. Is it possible that his hearing is changing with age (he's about 11)? And is there much I can do? He's not petrified, and doesn't shake or dribble like some dogs do, but is showing definite signs of anxiety. Once I get him inside (food usually does the trick) he will get as close as he can but still be under the coffee table. Is it worth getting a thunder shirt? Are they good for all anxieties? Fleming, while a million times improved since I first got him, still has a number of anxieties, most of which I know the trigger of. If I get one and put it on him when he shows this anxious behaviour will it calm him down then, or will it be too late (and the behaviour has set in). Is he even bad enough to need one? Any suggestions gratefully accepted :)
  12. So sorry for your loss. Hugs to you
  13. Hugs to you Grumpette and RIP Baylee. A beautiful girl
  14. I'm really lucky as I have a park across the road from me. It's not an off-lead park but I go over early in the morning when there's no-one about so Tess can go and sniff & widdle at her slow sedate pace, and Fleming and I play fetch so he gets a good run. We're only out for about 15-20 mins, but as both dogs are getting older (and Tess is really slowing down) it's all they need. I try to go daily but sometimes they miss out
  15. Tess sleeps on the bed, full length along side me. Fleming sleeps on his bed on the floor next to the bed, but will often come up on the bed in the morning for cuddles :)
  16. Fingers crossed that both you & Harry are feeling much better soon.
  17. Thanks guys - I was tired and generally frustrated last night, and couldn't see the obvious solutions of adding a new bowl or moving the current one  Such simple things. I'll give them a go tonight and see how she goes. I doubt she's been bitten by anything, (not obviously anyway) and it could be a sight thing. She's also showing a few early signs of dementia so it could be that too. Poor girl - she's really starting to show her age
  18. I have two water bowls for the dogs that are cleaned & refilled daily. Both dogs drink from both bowls. I've noticed in the last week that Tess is now only drinking from one bowl - to the point that that if her favourite is empty but the other is full she won't drink from the full one. Not really a problem except when I'm not home to refill it. Nothing has changed to the house or pack dynamic. She is elderly and is being managed for a sarcoma. Should I be worried about this sudden change in only drinking from one bowl (apart from the obvious dehydration potential)?
  19. Oh CaseyKay, I've just read this and am heartbroken for you. Sending you hugs - that is all I can do
  20. Oh pers, I'm so sorry to hear about Mr Wilson. I have loved seeing his photos and hearing about his antics. He will be sorely missed by you. All I can do is send cyber hugs - lots of them.
  21. I left mine at Golden Grove Boarding Kennels for a long weekend and have no complaints.
  22. Cassie, not sure where you are, but when I was in Adelaide I had wonderful experiences with Kylie at Payneham Vet Clinic. She was great with Tess, and took her time & really listened.
  23. Sending loads of hugs to you and your family Jules. What a traumatic time for you all.
