I've just seen this HW. God how truly awful and shocking for you all. Sending loads of healing vibes to Maddie and hope she's starting to feel a bit better today. How are you today? Have you seen the doctor yet? -

Thanks everyone for your support, and hugs to you Sparkycat. I am pleased to say we have a reprieve. Her good days still outweigh the bad ones, although she had a couple of bad ones in a row which made me panic and prompted my initial post. Her general health (sight, teeth, heart etc) are fabulous Her abdomen is free of any masses (she has ongoing tummy trouble and this is checked regularly, including blood tests) She is showing signs of the onset of spinal disintegration, and her rear joints are seizing up. Due to her stomach problems most of the anti-inflammatory meds aren't suitable, so we are trying a course of injections - she'll get one a week for four weeks and the effects can last up to six months So for now we'll see how the injections go and if her mobility improves, and keep a usual watchful eye on her tummy and the sarcoma on her hock. I felt much happier leaving for work this morning - she was snoring her head off sprawled on my bed

Thanks everyone for your input, I've been having a big think today, and what Kirislin said really struck a chord

My beautiful girl Tess is nearly 12 which I know is pretty darn good for a large breed. She's a bit deaf (mostly selective hearing though) and her eyesight seems OK. She does get a bit disoriented sometimes. The biggest problem is her back legs which are starting to give out (she fell up the front stairs the other morning) and she has a sarcoma on her hind leg (which is slow-growing and hasn't metastasised). She's very stoic physically but is a big sook emotionally. She didn't bat an eyelid with a cut foot pad, but will cry if she wants to sit next to me on the sofa and Fleming is in the way. The last two days though she's started whinging before letting me know she wants to go out to toilet. We're booked in to see the vet on Thursday. I know her time is nearly here, and the last thing I want to do is delay it if she's in discomfort or pain, but how do you prepare for this? I get into bits just thinking about it. She's my heart dog

Twelve Months Ago Today, I Lost My Precious Brianna
MadWoofter replied to MelodysMum's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Can't believe it's been 12 months. Hugs to you -
It's probably a bit out of the way, but I left my two at Golden Grove for a long weekend when I was there, and I was happy with the place.

I agree with the others, the x-rays will give you information and from there you can make your next decision. Hugs to you (and gentle ones to Kibah)

So sorry cavmad. RIP Stella

Being poorly advertised doesn't help. I only knew of it from DOL. Seeing some "unusual" breeds was great, and it's always nice to see GAP and their greys. It cold be a fantastic way to educate the general non dog savvy public. I was rreally pretty disgusted with the cat display. Not the expo fault, but there were a number of cats with dirty litter trays and not a human in sight. The cars were lovely, and there was a Bengal boy who was particularly stunning. Apart from doggy cuddles and some treats I didn't gain anything from it. I did have a good day but wouldn't necessarily go again

So sorry T&S - what a beautiful little girl she was. Hugs to you

Early Morning Tranquility Shattered

Holy crap K, how awful. There is nothing worse than seeing them in pain, it just wrenches your gut (& heart). If your vet is sure there are no breaks she could have bruised the bone, which is still incredibly painful, and at 12 if she's had nothing serious happen is probably very scary for her as well. I don't know about mixing rescue remedy with drugs but if you can do it. I've also found the times that Tess has problems if I lie down with her (I'll get on the floor & lie down next to her) she relaxes a bit which helps. Hopefully Neko is doing that. Fingers crossed it"s short term hun. Sending those vibes to you both
