My dogs have been a mix. Whatever fits them. I do tend to like "people" names better for dogs. I actaully think Bailey and Harely are DOG names and not people names. Lily is another very popular DOG name that i think is a little funny on people. I had a friend who use to be against "human" names for dogs and would go on rants about it. lol now she has 4 dogs with "human" names!

So vera has just gotten her puppies back. They are 5 weeks now and they have been apart since 2 weeks due to vera trying to die. She had been around them a little bit still and she would play with them ect. But now she will eat whatever she can get a hold of and throw her food up when shes around the puppies. I fed her an hr or more before letting her play with the puppies and she still threw up food. Is this normal? The puppies are not starving. They always have hard kibble to snack on and they get some softend food every 4-6hrs.

That sounds about right. My nicest puppy is a brat and has never wanted to be held, or held for long. I like to watch them move. If they move right they are put together right. They can look great and not move great at all.

Interesting articel poddlefan. I will have to keep that in mind for my next litter. All of my puppies are very strong and healthy so I dont think picking the stronger link will factor in much. I know who is the smartest but having the smart siberian isnt always the wisest choice! lol dancinbcs- I get what you are saying. My breed, siberians, is VERY political (in my area, anyways. Theres handfuls of big handlers and big kennels.) and i have seen top winning dogs in the ring and can clearly see their faults but they are the faults that make a dog flashy and some judges just dont get it. Or they just go for the person on the other end of the lead. Theres also two very different styles out right now and its a hit or miss on the judge you get. I wouldnt pick the pet of the litter just because it has the style I like. But I have two bitches right now that structure wise are very much a like. One has more neck therefor having nicer shoulders. Shes a really nice puppy as of right now. The other puppy isnt crap by any means shes just not AS nice but is very typy. Both look nice gaiting from the side. I guess I will know more once I can see their rear moments. If they end up with their sires rear their out. I'd keep them both if it where possible.

How do you go about picking your puppy? Of course there is structure, temp and style to look at. But what comes first for you? lets say your nicest puppy structure wise isnt the style you like and theres a puppy with the style you like and nice structure but not as nice as your other puppy? Temp means a lot to me so a sucky temp will get a puppy veto from my list and could even mean a show puppy, no matter how nice, getting fixed. But what does it for you? Would you take second, or even third pick, from your litter for style sakes or would you keep the nicest puppy even tho its not they style you like?

They are beautiful,shame they have to grow up! I love them in their wraps. Well,my vet said the cabbage leaves are the best idea which has been advised to you yesterday.Now,there is an injection to dry up the milk,she said she doesn't like using it and didn't say what it was.....so I haven't been of much help to you today. She was busy so I didn't pester her re the name....sure all vets would know what it is. Lucky for you yours are a larger breed,if they were Chis at 2 weeks I would have had to bottle feed them......we all know how tiring that is around the clock! Thanks for the info :D i got really lucky. They have been really heathly and strong puppies from the start. I did try to bottle feed them for 2 days and it was awful. They fought me the whole time and wanted to eat every hour but hated the bottle so they would hardly eat. They started off with baby oatmeal, milk and jar baby food. Took right to it and ate every 4 hrs.

Thanks lol everyone loves silver. Shes soooooo smart. The first one to figure out the bottle, puppy mush and how to drink water. She figures out EVERYTHING first.

I dont know how much I can stop feeding her. She gets a small meal every 1-2 hours to help with the red blood cell count. Shes not swollen or anythingbut shes not dried up either. I gave him a teddy and wrapted up the hot water bottle. i wrap him up after they eat and watch everyone close so he can play with them. He doesnt start to really scream till night when he wakes up and has no one to play with.

So ice packs instead of the leaves? She has to be dried up and wrapted before she can have them back. She did let me massage a TON of goo out. It was pretty nasty. Shes a really good girl. The garlic may be out of her system but none of its effects are. Her red blood cell count is still at 19. The masitis is pretty much gone. She still has a heart murmor and they dont know if it is from the garlic or if she got a valve infection. Shes on a ton of meds. They said she needed all of her enerngy build up her count rather then making milk. Puppies are good. They got weaned at 2 weeks. The girls keep sucking the boys boy part so they are seperated now and he NOT happy that!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I tried to wrapt him....the girls would just chew at it and pull it off! Naughty! I would pull them away and they would keep at it. So now he is apart from them and NOT happy about. He screamed almost all night and then the girls where looking for him and crying back

I have a heat lamp on one side that covers most of it and a pile of blankies (away from the potty area) that has a heating pad.

Thanks for the info! how did you keep them warm while seperated? Their also momless so they have been using each others body heat.

lol I dont even know where to start. My girls blood count drop down to 16 at one point (still only at 19. daning on the line of blood transfusion.) I ended up putting a tight t-shirt ( i used the work out spandex stuff in the guys section and ace bandage.) on her and wraping the back ones. Made her feel much better and helped dry up some of the milk. Also I have sent her to someone elses house. She comes to see me still but doesnt get to stay long enough to hear puppies. She has been in and out of the vets and urgent care. She ended up with an awful case of masitis in one teat and is on meds for that amoung other things. lol its been a mess! I asked about a injection and was told there was nothing.

My puppies are 3 weeks old. 3 girls and 1 boy. My girl puppies keep latching on to my boy puppy's...boy part. I cant get them to stop sucking on it. He's starting with a sore

its still garlic. Each pill was 1000 mg which is just as bad when it equals up to 120,000mgs.

The vet I just stoped going to said she could have them back in less the 48 hrs...also said "its just garlic" lol so im trying a new vet tomorrow. The Evet said it should be out of her system within in 3 to 5 days but posion control (mind you Evets wouldnt even talk to me till I called posion control and talked to their vets and got a case number.) said "Should not nurse for several weeks. Puppies should be weaned by then." Guess I will talk to vet tomorrow about how to get her to dry up. Just didnt know if anyone has had to get their bitch to dry up.

Somehow my girl found a bottle of garlic tablets (which I didnt even know there was such a thing till I found the chewed up bottle). After talking to posion control and spending hours at the Evet I was told not to let her nurse them any more by posion control and told 3 days at the most by the Evet???? Anyways they said I wont see the "side effects" for 3 to 5 days. Have to take her back in tomorrow for blood test and to recheck red blood cells. IF she ate 120 tablet they said she is going to get really sick and need a blood transfusion The puppies are 2 weeks old. I fought with them to bottle feed and it never seemed to be enough. they needed to eat every hour and some of them would hold off till they where starving. So I just started to weaning them and they are doing great, its keeping them full and they picked up on it like it was second nature. I dont trust her milk and agree with the posion control ppl so i would like her to dry up so I can let her have her puppies back (she throws herself at the door screaming for them. I will keep her wrapted when shes witht hem after she dries up so nothing gets started again.) She has A LOT of milk right now. I have been putting her in the shower and running cold water over her belly before milking her. But she doesnt seem to be slowing down. I can tell shes in pain if i dont milk her every 2 hrs or so. Someone told me to get a tight shirt and to ace bandge her? Should I still milk her and use the warm compress or just wrapt her? If the vet visit turns out good tomorrow im sending her to someones house for a few days so she doesnt hear the puppies. Any suggestions?

Also as for puppies being "born" aggressive a lot of it has to do with how much the mother did or didnt do with the puppies (in some cases). I know of a bitch that was bred too young and she was very rough with her puppies. When she would play with them she would play too hard and they would scream. (Why the puppies werent taken away and why the bitch was bred so young is a totally different story)The puppies adapted to their situation and where MEAN puppies. I highly doubt they where born aggressive but deferentially something they where tough.

Depends on the puppy. I work with puppies all the time. I see GREAT puppies turn into evil monsters and I see evil puppies turn into angels. First you HAVE to be able to read your dog. Those people should prob look elsewhere if the instructors are not being informative. You have to know if your puppy is afraid. Letting a fear bitter stay in a situation that causes it to snap could result in a fight. Dogs will even fight just to end a fight. Normally lots of noise with no damage. But if a fear bitter lashes out at a puppy who is a pest then the pest could get mad and attack the fear bitter and cause a fight. Which will only set both puppies back in most cases. If the puppy is lashing out in fear then things need to go slower and when the puppy is stressed it needs to be removed from the situation or given a command to remove itself from the situation. If the puppy is a pest and gets in fights because other puppies tell it off and it doesnt like it then that puppy needs to start learning boundaries and commands need to be given. Sometimes all it takes is another dog really telling them off. Some dogs still dont even get that. There could have been a MILLION! reasons for that fight and none of it adding up to pure aggression. The staff should have been proactive or at the VERY LEST! reactive to the fight and addressed/informed the owners of the issue/s. If someone KNOWS their dog then they should be able to alter the way the puppy acts/responds to things.

:D thats awful! I was told a list of things that would work if there was a bleeder. I read up on the stitches but everything I read said you where more likely to get an infection that way so I veto'd it. I was told if they look like they are getting pussy with the scab to just hot water compresses it and get rid of the scab.
