Well I suppose I'm pandering to all my dogs as I insist on walking them all in the morning for fear of repercussions It's their routine, it's kinda non-negotiable. They get left all day while we're at work so it's only fair IMO that they get exercised before I leave. Also, if it was up to OH we'd only have one dog, maybe two, definitely not four. I made it a problem so I need to deal with it. He also has no issues walking the four of them together so isn't particularly understanding about this situation! Chopper actually loves his crate. He quite happily gets in there every night. Sometimes he'll even put himself to bed early if it's open! The tantrums happen if I go out with another dog and not him. I can leave them all and he's fine, but take one of the others and he's feeling incredibly indignant and hard-done-by! Bad baby's crate got moved out of the bedroom long ago due to farting and snoring So, I can either walk everyone except Angel and then come back and take her and the spoilt one to the park for fetch, or I can let Chopper get over his tantrums and accept the new routine ...

I realised this morning that I hate walking all the dogs together and the only reason I do it is because if I leave without Chopper he'll throw a massive tantrum I was doing ok walking three, but now it's four I'm really not enjoying it, the pavements just aren't wide enough. Ideally I'd like to walk Ivan and Trixie for 30 mins and then drop them home and bring Chopper and Angel over to the park for 20-30 mins of fetch. I've tried this but Chopper goes balistic in his crate when I leave with the others. I even came home once to find some blood on the floor. I could bring him and Angel out first, but it's still pretty dark at that point and even after 30 mins of running around he'd still go spastic if I walked out the door with Ivan and Trixie and not him. I know he's a spoilt bastard and it's my fault for pandering to him, but knowing he's hurting himself by thrashing around in his crate upsets me. Leaving him out of his crate isn't an option as he'll be destructive. My husband is generally still home for the first half hour and I could ask him to help, but I suspect he won't want his sleep disturbed! Any suggestions?!!!

Clicker Teaching Touch With Paw
ruthless replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I want touch object. I think the idea was to use it to slow the dog down at the end of certain pieces of equipment. See saw, A frame, etc. so he doesn't just jump off. -
I've asked another DOLer to teach me some basic agility with Chopper. I taught him a few things with the clicker in the early days, he gets it. I've been advised to teach him to touch with his paw before we go on the equipment. I have a few clicker books at home, but I've been told they prob teach touch with the nose. Does anyone have any pointers on how to teach touch with the paw? Do I need one of these? http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?s=&a...t&p=2759755

Angel's tipping the scales at almost 17kgs and she's far from overweight. Too muscly maybe, but not fat. Having said that though, she's a pound hound, so prob not bred by a reputable breeder!

They're apart when we're at work. When I catch her doing it I correct her. I'll try the spray, good idea, thanks! I've never heard of woundgard but I'll look into it, cheers

Angel is driving me mad. She's licking Trixie's chin and around her mouth so much it's now got a bacterial infection. There was a small wound beside her mouth that started her licking. It got infected but we treated it with Neocort and it cleared up, but the whole area around her mouth and chin is red from Angel's constant licking. Any ideas on how to stop her so it has a chance to clear up?

Okay I might come along! if you see a small girl being dragged around by a large dog please come up and say hi! Cool, I'll be there with Angel ... the little fat one in my sig

I train there, they accept all dogs, don't worry! Chopper was a full on nightmare when I started, now he's a good boy Joining day is this Sunday. Turn up at 8am with his vaccination cert. Class starts at 9, finishes at 10. Are you walking him on a flat collar? Maybe you need to invest in a martingale. They sell them at the club and they'll show you how to use it. He's a big boy. He needs you and your husband to step up to the plate and be strong leaders. Cesar's Way is a good starting book. Good luck :D

Dog Obedience Classes Near Sans Souci Sydney?

Is Peakhurst anywhere near there? Monelite's a trainer there. I go with Chopper. It's 3pm on Saturdays. -
I made a vet appt for last Saturday, but the lump had subsided considerably over the week prior, so I cancelled. If it had appeared out of the blue I would be more concerned, but due to the fact that he'd been in a fight the day before I noticed it I figured that was the cause. It's almost gone now, but if it doesn't go completely within a week I'll have it checked.

Training Class For Aggressive Dogs
ruthless replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There was an episode of Dogs with Jobs recently that showed something similar. The "trainer" had a very non reactive GSD. She had a class of aggressive dogs that were muzzled and they were all let off one at a time to interact with her dog. It took more than one class to "cure" them, but you could really see a difference. Very interesting. -
I use tea tree lotion on Ivan's ears, it does the trick. I've also used Rid and Permoxin, they both work too.
-
Do you pay Eastern Suburbs vet prices though?
-
http://www.k9force.net/ There's a link on the left for Distance Learning, click it then scroll down and you see Advanced Training with the Remote Collar.
-
I think they're a great tool, but I would strongly suggest that you get some training in how to use it properly. K9 Force does distance training packages afaik. Maybe shoot him a PM or check out his website. Good luck ;)
-
kja did you get any training on how to use the collar beforehand?
-
Maybe PM shmoo?

Would you go to the vet straight away or wait a week or two to see if it either goes away or changes in size? I found one on Chopper's neck. It's smaller than a ping pong ball. He had a fight with another dog last week and OH reckons it's from that. There's no puncture wounds in that area though, so not an infection. I can squeeze it and it doesn't bother him. Any thoughts?

Good point

It's all gone  She's still far from normal though!
