  1. Thanks to kja I'm soon to own my very own 50mm 1.8 I may still invest in an L lens, but I'll wait and see how I go with the 50mm first.
  2. IMO opinion it just comes down to personal preference. Some people like McDonalds, some prefer Hungry Jacks I've always owned Canons so that's what I'd recommend. A Nikon owner will more than likely say the opposite :nahnah: The lens you get will be what makes the difference. Do you know what lenses come with the different cameras?
  3. Thanks, maybe that was the website I was looking for originally! Yeah, that's my lens ... slow & noisy to focus
  4. I always love seeing your pictures BTW Amazon was the site I was looking for originally. If you bring up a lens it'll give you a link to peoples pics taken with that lens. Pros and amateurs. It hasn't helped my decision making process though
  5. Nothing worth posting I think it only goes to 5.6, I want to go a lot further!
  6. I find my 50mm too clunky and I imagine a better lens would take sharper pics too?
  7. I have a 17-85, a 70-300 with IS and an old 50mm, 2.5 I think? The latter takes nice shots but takes a while to focus. I took this the day I discovered it in my camera bag and realised it also works on my DSLR! I bought it as a macro when I was in college about 10yrs ago [frightening to think I majored in photography, eh?!].
  8. I don't want to go into the several thousands, but I would like a really good lens so I know I need to spend a bit. OH is subsidising it as my belated bday present! No, no one's mentioned the 100mm, thanks for that! Is that a true macro lens? When you say decent, do you mean it's ok but you can get better? Do you find the 70-200 heavy? I've been reading reviews and a lot of people are commenting on how heavy it is.
  9. Another option? :D :D :D Did you have to throw another option into the mix?!!! Prepare for another barrage of PMs!
  10. Nothing wrong with the 70-300, but it's not a good portrait lens AFAIK. I don't have that 50mm, only my faux macro 50mm that you told me I had It takes nice pics, but it's quite clunky and slow to focus.
  11. I want a new lens and I've been bombarding kja with PMs for the last few months but I still don't know what one to get :D I want a really good one for portraits, with nice bokeh! [see, I'm learnin'! ] I like the pics her and Helen posted from the 85mm. I love the pics I've seen from the 50mm 1.2 and I like yours and Ripley's ones from your 70-200. I can't decide. I wish I could try before I buy.
  12. 1. Cause I've done no recall under distraction training with her 2. Cause it's heaps more fun jumping all over people in the park with her muddy paws/chasing birds/ playing with other dogs etc. than it is coming to me and behaving herself 3. Cause I've been completely inconsistent with any training I've done with her to date 4. Cause she's a staffy that loves to be naughty 5. Whatever other reasons you care to mention Do you think I don't know why she doesn't come when I call her I made the comment about her looking over her shoulder and laughing as she runs off to give people an idea of what her personality is like.
  13. Luke W I've spoken to behaviourists and trainers about this. If they all believe that the problem is our lack of proper pack structure and leadership and the remedy is NILIF then I'll try NILIF. Me choosing to believe that she does it out of pure naughtiness has nothing to do with it really!
  14. A more inappropriately named dog you will not find! Maybe protest wees are a bully thing
  15. This is the dog that looks over her shoulder and laughs at me when she's running away and I'm telling her to "come" ETA I shouldn't laugh, clearly she's no respect for me, but I'm working on it
  16. They're protest wees!!! She does them when things haven't gone her way! She's a rescue, we got her at 1.5 or 2yo. The first thing she did when we brought her home was go into the living room and take a piss on the carpet While we were finding something to clean it up she did a pooh Sometimes the reason for peeing in the house is cause she wouldn't go out in the rain to pee, but it's generally a protest thing. We watch her like a hawk, but sometimes we drop our guard and don't realise she's tiptoed into another room
  17. I suggested he put her in her crate cause I knew she was looking for trouble. IMO she didn't need to go to the toilet, she was just being a brat cause she didn't get her way. I do give her lots of praise when she pees outside. This has been going on for over 2 years now. Clearly we're doing something wrong, but hopefully some consistency with NILIF will help matters.
  18. But we never catch her. She's sneaky! She even tiptoes from room to room when she knows she's not supposed to!!!
  19. I agree with LM here. In so far as your opinion of the 'punishment' your OH put out in this instance, I don't think you're too soft either. In fact, I don't even think that what your OH did was a "punishment". For it to be a punishment the dog needs to perceive the action as an aversive for the undesirable action. Is there an alternative that I can suggest to him? Should there have been no consequences to her actions as we didn't catch her in the act?
  20. We've started NILIF (again ). She was on the dog bed in the lounge and woke up. She came to me and put her head on my knee waiting to be invited up. I ignored her for a while and after a few minutes told her to get back into bed. She did, but got up again a few minutes later and started wandering around. OH got up and let her out the back. She didn't wee. When she came back in and she wouldn't settle so he put her in her crate [which is in another room, but not far from where we were sitting]. He didn't close the door though and she got out and when Ivan came into us a few minutes later I asked if Angel had gotten into his bed, cause he usually wouldn't get up otherwise! A couple of minutes later she came back in and when I put her on the bed with the others she stayed there. I went to bed shortly afterwards and left OH to put the dogs to bed. OH has the shits cause he gave her the opportunity to pee and she didn't. I reckon she pee'd in Ivan's bed cause she either had the shits about not being allowed on the sofa or cause she was put in her crate before bedtime. I have the shits that OH didn't shut the door on her crate like I told him to She doesn't have a weak bladder, it's definitely a behavioural thing. They're protest wees
  21. I'm just going to tie the bitch to me so she's never out of my sight! ETA I mean bitch in the nicest possible sense of the word. I do love her really
  22. I don't spoil them any more Hopefully that means I can look forward to less undesireable behaviours!
