  1. I like my 17-85mm as an all rounder. If you want an ultra wide angle for landscapes/cityscapes there's the 10-22mm. If you go to Flickr you can look at pics taken with both lenses ... 17-85 10-22 I've also been told that this is a good place to buy lenses – http://www.d-d-photographics.com/ – I haven't used them yet though. I have the first lens, you can drop over and try it on your camera sometime if you want
  2. I can't believe there's no Aussie equivalent to SmugMug, I see a niche in the market, just wish I knew how to do something about it
  3. It's kinda hypothetical anyway, but I was thinking it'd be handy not to have to order from me IYKWIM. To just upload pics and not have to worry about processing orders. If you buys things through RedBubble are they sent from overseas or Australia?
  4. Is there an Australian equivalent to SmugMug? IE somewhere to upload proofs so people can look at pics you've taken for them and order prints? ETA I presume with SmugMug is people wanted to order prints it'd go through an American print lab?
  5. Seems those links don't work! I'm on a mac, I right click on the error icon [blue square with ?] and select open in new window. I'm sure the same would work for PC people too, no?
  6. I can see them now! They're great, nice work
  7. Blue question marks at this end
  8. VetnPet Direct sell it. If you don't want to buy online I can get you some from my local pet shop, from memory it's about $8 more expensive than buying online though Just get some and a spray bottle, mix up a solution and spray the garden and Evie. It's cheap and effective. If it doesn't fix your problem I'll buy you a bottle of woine
  9. Advantix doesn't work for Ivan, the flies still savage his ears. I use Aeroguard or Permoxin. It'd be a brave cat that ventured into our garden I opened the outside bin this morning and there were several hundred maggots crawling all over the inside I don't know how it happened, but I unloaded a can of fly spray in there, shut the lid and went to work. I'm really hoping they're all gone when I get home
  10. Since I'm shooting at such fast shutter speeds, is it possible that I don't need the IS turned on at all? Could it be slowing down my auto-focussing?
  11. I've gotten some more advice by email and on Flickr which I thought I'd share here, cause I'm nice like that Use centre focus point Use a shutter speed of 1/1000 or higher ISO no higher than 400 With my lens f8 is good for running dogs [Don't worry chezzyr, I'll still do my homework ] Keep the frame full when shooting [i was cropping quite a lot so losing image quality] The camera tracks focus better when the dog is moving directly towards it [not changing direction like Chopper was] And of course ... practice, practice, practice
  12. WOW! http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=a8d0KqE-boE [More bad tracksuits ]
  13. I want heaps more sharpness. I realise I need to put the practice in, so I'm not complaining, just looking for advice. Chopper says thank you
  14. Get low down in the water with no filter Are you lot trying to sabotage me?
  15. I did, over lunch, and a few other reviews. I haven't written it off, yet
  16. Sounds good Let me do my homework first though so I can get a better understanding of my lens's capabilities and limitations.
  17. No, that makes sense to me, thanks ;) I wonder if there's a checklist of different settings combinations that I can download and tick off as I go ...
  18. It wasn't an insult!!! I long for the day when I don't need to edit my pics to make them look half-way decent! Pooh ;) I wish I'd done more research before I bought it :p Sounds incredibly boring, but I'll do it this weekend hopefully. Why do you say stationary prop when it's action pics that I'm trying to learn?
  19. More than likely is! It'd be so nice to be able to blame my equipment though You'll keep ;) I remember you told Kirislin to take her lens out and do tests at various focal lengths. Good advice, I'll give it a go too.
  20. No worries CD, I thought you were Nikon. I just looked on Flickr and there seems to be the same discussion about filters for my lens too. I've been shooting with the IS on Mode 1, could that be part of the problem?
  21. Are you Nikon or Canon CD? I think my filter is Hoya too. I also have a polarising filter, but I took it off cause I didn't know how to use it and it was ruining my pics. Yes, it was, not me ;)
  22. I remember thinking it wasn't cheap when I bought it, but it wasn't $150 either. Stress levels will go through the roof if I go to the beach without it ;) Maybe I'll stick to the dog park for a while!
