Ruthlessleather.com Is About To Turn 1!
ruthless replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
The collars have five or six holes (depending on the design). Dave could make it to fit on the second last hole so there's some room to grow. Alternatively, you can order and pay during the promotion period but we'll hold off on making it until you reckon he's done growing. Any pics? -

Thanks! Not sure how Maremma coats compare to Spitz breeds, but we've dressed a few Huskies and even more Lappies -

It's a promotion, not a competition, everyone's a winner! :mad :mad -
We launched our website a year ago on 1 April. Our supporters have been really loyal so we wanted to do something to mark the event. We thought about having a BBQ, but that would limit it to Sydneysiders. Instead we've come up with a huge promotion and since the trend these days is to have a birthday week, we'll be launching it on Monday 28 March at noon and running it until the following Monday 4 April. We'll be announcing the details on St Patrick's Day, cause we're Irish and it feels appropriate to do it then, so stay tuned! I've set up a Facebook event page here for anyone that wants to RSVP to make sure you don't miss it > https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=192733737426877 --- Details of the promotion have now been posted on the blog here > http://www.ruthlessthings.com/blog/?p=2276

Search And Rescue Dogs/sniffer Dogs
ruthless replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can't speak for all groups but here, yes, 5.5 is too old. It will take you at least 18 months to get the dog trained to operational status (probably longer for a novice handler), and they usually retire by about 10 years old. So no one will want to invest that much time & money into training a dog which will have an operational lifespan of only a few years. Civilian search dogs where I come from live with and belong to their handlers. Thanks for that -

Can I take this slightly OT for a sec? Did anyone see the Pit x Ridgie on Cesar last week? The foster dog with huge drive that was given to a SAR dog training company [i think]. Apart from the human aggression he was exactly like Chopper. It made me wonder two things: 1. Is 5.5yo too late to start SAR training? 2. Do you give your dog away if you think they have potential [like Cesar did] or do you train it and it lives with you? -

This is on Sunday from 3-6pm. It's a fundraiser for victims of the floods and the cyclone, but it's also a ceremony to remember pets that have passed. Here's a Facebook event listing if anyone wants to share it around: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=182296241805411

Do you have any links to papered ASTs in this country that have yellow eyes? I'm genuinely curious. Yeah, I call that blue. Same as Cesar's Junior.
-
The dogs on the cover have dark eyes. I would consider them to be Amstaffs. This is a blue and white APBT. I don't think such dogs exist in Australia. http://nicolemlakarphotography.com/blog/?p=1698 I know there's the whole "they come from the same DNA" debate, but can you get Amstaffs that look like the dog in the link above??
-
Unpapered? Maybe, but unlikely (altho the bitch does have terrible ears) It's often said here that an unpapered Amstaff is an APBT in the eyes of the law. What I meant, in my badly worded sentence above, is I don't think there are any blue and white APBTs [with light eyes] in this country. There are plenty of blue and white Amstaffs without pedigree papers, but not pure APBTs like you see in the US. [Am I making sense? I know what I mean!]
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you be realllllllllly hard pushed to find a blue and white APBT in Australia? An unpapered Amstaff sure, but a pure APBT?
-
I'll try and remember to let you know if I hear of any events

Mardi Gras Fair Day is on in Victoria Park [City Road, Sydney] this Sunday 20 Feb. There's a dog specific area called Doggywood which I thought some people here might be interested in. From their website: http://www.mardigras.org.au/fairday/index.cfm
