Just checking in to send love and hugs
-
So sorry to hear about Keisha, Bluepoppy. It really does sound like the time had come and it is wonderful that you had the strength to do what you had to do for Keisha's sake. Keisha is running free from pain because you were able to accept for yourself the pain of saying goodbye. I'm not crying for Keisha now, but for you Damn mascara.

Just thinking it would be lovely to see some pictures here of the sick kiddies. Understand though if it is too painful. Would also love to know more about them. It's hard trying to trawl through that mammoth rotty thread to look them up.

So glad to hear of Sophie's improvement - what an unexpected blessing

Just popped in to see how the sick babies are doing today.? If you're lurking anywhere Cav'n'rot, best wishes to Sophie and hope to see you on here soon. Love and hugs to you all from Xander and Paddy

Can you tell me what are some of the earliest signs of osteosarcoma?

I'm finding it very hard to read this thread. And yes the tears are falling. So sorry Rottnbullies. Cavnrot - please keep us posted on Sophie's progress. To all others whose babies are unwell - you will be in my thoughts.

In the past I have pulled a trampoline bed up against my bed to make it easier for the little ones or the oldies to get up and down. I have had dogs in my bed since I was around 10. I get really miffed if they choose to sleep somewhere else

Don't expect her to be perfect for a while yet but I would definately try to get her out of the pulling thing. All my dogs of whatever age get trained pretty much the same way. If they start pulling we stop and wait for however long it takes for the dog to stop pulling. Then we continue. If a dog is older and a puller, I will also change direction without warning and the dog will have to follow after me. It must look funny with me zigzagging all over the place but the dog soon gets the message that it must look to me for direction at all times.

Likewise with me. So sorry to hear this. Well done for trying and being strong enough to make the hard desicion. Run free Cleo.

Not sure - Doggroomer. They look very fluffy around the face and feet. I have been getting advice on the poodle thread but it all seems very complicated with all the different size shavers. I have trimmed the hair around their feet but I think that the rest is a bit beyond me. I have heard that the right cut gives a rescue dog the best chance of getting a home. I think I might have to just take them to a groomer and see what they charge.

Thanks Cav - was hoping you'd be on I don't know about the new rottie - I'll try and work her up to a 20 min walk. I have always been very careful with my own boy as his problems are so very obvious. He walks like a crab. Unfortunately there is no way of stopping him bouncing all over the garden

And this is Cindy Sasha has very poodle like hair whilst Cindy's hair is a little straighter.

I thought I'd better start a new thread even though everyone is probably bored to tears with everyone wanting to know how to clip their dogs. I'm a real newcomer to this grooming thing as my dogs tend to be short coated however I have gone out on a limb by fostering a couple of poodle x girls from Renbury Farm. I have no idea at all what to do with them and really need some advice. I have only had them for 24 hours and so far they have been washed and brushed with all their burrs removed. I was wondering what would be the best thing to do with them taking into consideration comfort and adoption appeal. This is Sasha

I have two dogs here with HD, my own, a 2 yr old rottiex with bilateral hip and elbow dysplasia, and a foster rottie with quite advanced HD. I have never been game to take them for more than a leisurely 10 minute walk. Is this enough? or am I playing it too safe? thanks in advance

All my dogs go twice a day. However I split their food into morning and night feeds so maybe this accounts for it.

Puppy Had Diarrhoea With Blood -> Diarrhea Friday
Kaz replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are you feeding chicken necks, wings or carcasses? In some dogs this can cause problems - I believe it can do with sharp fragments of bones tearing at the dog's insides. In your situation I would play it safe and not give him anything with chicken bones even if they are uncooked. Too much pumpkin can make for runny pooh - It won't hurt your dog though. -

How Can You Recognise Kennel Cough?
Kaz replied to hortfurball's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Horty - It doesn't sound like classic kennel cough to me. I;ve probably had around thirty dogs come through here with kc. They usually cough up a more liquid mucousy type discharge and it will be green and slimy if it has turned into an infection. It looks very similar to a human flu. I'm not saying it definately isn't kennel cough but I would recommend taking her straight to a different vet for another opinion. I did have one dog come through who had some sort of virus where she was snorting for several days. I though kennel cough though when symptoms didn't appear, I though she might have damaged her wind pipe, A few days later she vomited and had diarreah and was rushed to the vet. She was put on a drip and it was touch and go for a while. If she had been left any longer, the vet said she might not have made it. There was talk of a virus in one of the rescue threads started by Trisven It could be something totally different but please keep an eye on her. Very Worried - 6 Month Old Puppy
Kaz replied to hortfurball's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have two HD dogs here at the moment. They get all the above mentioned supplements but I have put them all on Royal Canin Giant Breed as this food is geared towards joint support. The new rottweiler seems to have improved since she arrived here a couple of weeks ago. I think part of this might be due to a portion of oily fish she has included in her food every day. I hear an RC Dane formula has just been released in France and I will be trying it out when it is released in Australia. -
Just curious if this meet is still happening. I haven't been for months and I don't think anyone else was there last time I turned up.

Mallerr - our dog had the operation for the elbow displacia shortly after the hip operation. Unfortunately it didn't take and I manage his condition with natural remedies though I'm beginning to think it is time I consulted another vet about other possible treatments. Glad it worked out for your dog. Dogsforall - you're right in that it's a personal decision. There really is no right answer and even the success of the operation is a gamble. Still glad I did it though. Paddy has a great quality of life though he won't be running any marathons. PnH have a young rescue rottie at the moment who has just being diagnosed. She is around two years old so medication and probable hip replacement later in life is the only option. It will probably take a while for her to find the right home if she ever does. So she will be moving in with me for the forseeable future.. Then the two HD dogs can totter around together

Pandii - so sorry to hear the news. RIP Trez

I have had that op done on my boy when he was around 9 months old. They break the pelvis in three places and pin the hip in a different position so that the ball of the joint is held properly within the socket. Unfortunately the other hip was too far gone already and he will probably have to have a hip replacement on that side later in life. Luckily I was in a position to afford this surgery (big ouch to the hip pocket though). It is not within everyone's budget however. I have to say I am glad I got it done and wish I could have done both.

My 3 month old foxy foster pup looks like he may have to have a portosystematic shunt due to a problem to do with his liver function. They are not sure until the test results are through but this seems like the most likely cause of his illness. Just wondered if anyone here knows how much this is going to cost. And has anyone been through this before with their dog?
