  1. I really wish lillysmum would back off people who are asking genuine questions and expressing their concerns! If they were not genuine they would not be on here posting their questions and thoughts! Lillysmum you have an automatic response whereby it is demoralising to people! I have kept from expressing my feelings and thoughts about your posts in my topics and other topics where your downright negative an add no value to the person seeking advice or help! Lillysmum you can post your thoughts but try a more humane and digestible approach so that people can stomach it! Cause what goes around comes around its as simple as that!

    Biting Again

Just to ask ... A puppy that 5-6months old Its ok to give them icecubes and kongs iceblocks etc??? it wont damage their jaw/mouths? or make their new teeth crooked or break them???? What are the tricks to sooth their teething?? (I.e for kids we use Bonjelo)
  3. HI Tracey Quick question i was under the impression that poodles do not smell??? Is the odour in your apartment from the dog or from toilet accidents and food? Sorry for asking but i live in an apartment and do not have a dog yet but woudl liek to know what type of doggy odours build up from a poodle?
  4. Its ironic how there is confilctring information.. it becomes very confusing for first time dog owners. You read some dog training books and they say to walk the puppy from 12 weeks of age once the 2nd vaccination is done... they also say to go to puppy school to start training to sit. stay and to become accustomed to being on a leash Then you get some other books like Cesars Way saying you must take your dogs on long walks as it fullfills their need for work and achievement... (he does not refer to adult or puppies just dogs) In this post owners are saying to hold back on long walks... but if you live in an apartment a dog needs some form of exercise.. so at 16 weeks Cant he go for a walk in the park on grass ??? Arent puppies supposed to learn how to be on a leash etc? Mustang I am wanting to get a toy poodle... as an adult how much walking / jogging can they handle as i like to go for a 1/2 walk in mornings and night.
  5. Morgan Are you saying Selenium helps people with cancer???? I have started to look into this on the web and see what it states...
  6. TB and Miranda You say you dont leave yuor dog inside but being in a unit you dont have much choices... which is why i have yet to get a dog thus far.. I have a balcony which is 5 metres long by 1.5 m.. its secure .. would the dog (toy poodle) be ok to leave there even though i have a bbq and a table.. i.e would it bother him if there are objects on the balcony or does it have to be empty... and is it ok to leave him there for the day... its under cover and gets some sun also but mostly shade. I was also goign to leave the door open and have a pen enclosure so he can have some inside access also .. but the tv is next to door because tv ariel socket is there.. you see any issues? Also if you leave your dog outside wont they cry?? Ncarter... you can get a petloo if you want to have an inside pet loo..... they are little expensive however. web site is http://www.petloo.com
  7. Hi Saltwood Thats exaclty why i decided to go for an older pup cause i thought it would settle in easier and it will also be easier for me as its my first puppy. He is now nearly 18 weeks old.. i will know if i am getting him by end of next week :D
  8. I understand generally that the thumb of rule is 8 weeks. I guess its on an individual basis also on lots of cases. I have yet to make a decision.. I asked for a few days to think about it!
  9. Hi Miranda How is it different if i can ask? When speaking to the breeder she said he has been trained to be in a crate also socialised.. that i could tell . He was also used to being handled as she groomed him, was picking him up and he was not at all bothered by it. She did say he is not fully toilet trained but i can do that .... and she crates him at night like her other dogs as part of the training
  10. Hi all thanks for the replies! the puppy is gorgeous... it entered its first show yesterday and came second... it was a quite little dog the breeder was handling him and then he was in his crate after and no barking nothign.. later he was with another 2 dogs and they all sat nicely and calmly.. i got a very good vibe from the 5 hours i was there
  11. Hi all I was wondering what the differences would be at getting a puppy from a registered breeder at the age of 16 weeks as opposed to say 10 - 12 weeks old. Would a 16 week old pup settle in better to a new house and less prone to seperation anxiety etc. Thanks Curious
  12. I have seen so many posts on Eagle pack and Nutro Which one do people think is better? and how does Science diet compare to these?
  13. Hi All Once again thanks for replies Poodle Wrangler.. you answered the question in responce to poodles Thanks for that.... I think when time comes to get the puppy i will stick to a groomer for the first few years and only do simple home grooming . brushing and trimming... The way i think of it is a doggy's day out LOL...
  14. Hi All Thanks for your replies. I was planning on taking my puppy to a groomer when i get him... but i was curious as to the difference cause in the future i would liek to trim him also thats why i thought id ask from now. I actually saw some pet ANDIS cliipers at BIG W but will get Wahl or Osters when time comes and what the groomer recommends. Thanks everyone Curious.
  15. Hi All Just wondering what is the difference between say a very good pair of Wahl human clippers VERSUS dog clippers? Are they real differences and can it harm a dog? And if you are to buy dog clippers would you ask your groomer what they recommend? or the breeder? Thanks Curious
  16. Hi All Please dont attack me.. its a genuine concern... can people help me out possibly with any advice or their situation I dont have a dog yet and it will be a while before i do purchase one .. I live in a unit and i am allowed to have a dog as its been approved. ... my biggest fear of getting a puppy / dog is that it will whine / bark all the time or on a long term basis... Maybe i am overeacting... I know in theory what to do i.e training, toys etc etc. and when i do get him I will be with him for the first 4 weeks and train him to be on his own by leaving for small amounts of time and crating during the time when i am home for short periods so he can get comfortable in the environment etc. Long term though we both work.. different hours which is ok so the dog would not be alone more than 4 hours to a max 8 hours on occasion..... Can people especially those living in units let me know if they have issues with this or is it a training aspect and i am just overeacting? Thanks Curious.
  17. I just wanted to say thanks to all the replies it has been much appreciated. The crate is a definite for me... Thanks Again Curious
  18. Hi Bella LOL got it goodluck with your pup post pics when you get her!
  19. Hi Bella I cannot see your pic as it says its been removed, but thanks anyway! regarding the poodle.. i dont mind putting in the work.... thats what its about i like the breed have done research have gone to shows and grooming is no issue i have a few in my area which makes it easier for me. daily brushin etc can be done at night when we are relaxing at home I am a long way off from buying one at this point but i like this forum and reading posts etc When i have a question i like adding posts to find out answers to them
  20. Hi All Firslty thanks for replies. Bellababy.. id love to get a toy poodle, as i have limited space... out of all the small dogs i like that breed the best i like the best... based on what everyone is saying it looks like a crate part of the house is a good idea.. Bikle...i am leaning towards an older puppy / young adult when the time comes. P.S for some reason i cant see anyones images on this site today... *work p.c may be the issue*
  21. Hi All I do not have a dog as yet but I read most topics on DOLS as to do as much research as I can for future and love going to dog shows. I know lots of people crate train their dogs and have varied views on how long they keep their puppies in them during the day. My question is if you have a small toy breed type dog can you keep a puppy/dog in a puppy pen say 2m * 1m while they are new to a home so they get accustomed to their new environment and how long can a small dog like this stay in a pen ..... i.e. 4 hours or more. ideally up to 8 hours on odd occasion When i get a puppy / dog .. I want to set up a safe environment but also have peace of mind when he is alone... I want to crate train him when I am home but would like to keep him in a pen with access to an open door crate (ill attach the crate externally on each side to one of the pen panels) while not at home or confine him to one room (with a open door and gate) till he settles in etc before giving him access to the balcony and the rest of the unit. I do not want to be attacked by this post i am asking a genuine question and trying to learn so i am better prepared. One more point... I interpret a crate as a den for a dog... somewhere they can sleep feel safe and an owner can train them for various things i.e housetraining etc... a pen is somewhere to restrict the dog from having access to everything but they can move freely in the space.... is that how a crate and pen difer? or is this wrong? Thanks C.
  22. Hi All Where does one go learn how to groom dogs? is there an actual course?
  23. Hello All Does anyone know if there are ticks in the Sydney City Area? Especially Centennial Park and the Bondi Areas? Also is it harder to spot ticks in long haired dogs with black coats? i.e poodles
  24. Yes - you can give them the 1/2 tablet which equates to a 5kg dosage or you are able to give them the full 10kg tablet without any harm. It would depend on how close to the 5kg mark the dog would be - IMO, it is better to over worm than under worm - within reason of course. As for the spot ons - I recommend that people whose animals are on the line between dosage sizes go up a size. E.g using you example, for a 4kg dog I would use the 4 - 10kg spot on rather than the 0 - 4kg. Reason being that even a few grams over and the effects can be reduced. If you are unsure though, always consult your vet. Hi Georgie-Boy Thanks for your reply.. I would have thought the same thing with spots on go up to next dosage size if the dog is on the border but the pet shop person said to stay with the smaller dosage as a large one poisons them or causes them to get ill...does anyone know if this is true?
  25. Talking about chewing i spoke to somone on the street today with a poodle and he said his experience with poodles toys and mini's is that they are very BIG chewers throughout their whole lives .. is this a true statement? Are poodles known to be chewers all their life?
