  1. two ud's a cdx ad before we had all those other agility titles and i havea would have been ud probbaly udx that cant trial and a young dog that will go as far as i can
  2. the biggest problem i have is a hubby that doesnt trian his dog and he just got the jumping up lecture and the diving for the toy lecture and the pulling one o boy does he get a lot of lectures lol
  3. put it on cue and train it under ditraction as in using other cues epople will use so they learn those are a no for jumping and have a cue that is unusual many epople teach up with hands up on their chest yet where will a child stick their hands wehn a dog approaches and they are unsure
  4. oh i hate it when dogs sit and drool at the food i have or worse start offering behaviours to get the treat and your trying eat and they have giant goobers even i can see yuck
  5. i agree if your going to take your dog out in ublic then its important to be able to control i and teach it good manners that fit with our society
  6. actually most clubs these days are working more toward acceptable behaviour and pet trianing rather than obedience for competition only 3% of epople who trian dogs are serious about trial work though of course those 3% are often showies as well so they are more likely to be the ones you meet i know tonnes of triners that only focus on good manners
  7. here is an example of what i eman on the weekend i met some lovely young girls at our club there sister is trianing a dog there they loved dino and wanted to cuddle him and take him for a walk I didnt have to worry he'd jump all over them I didnt have to worry he'd pull them around i didnt have to worry he'd snatch food or be rude The only thing i had to wach was that they were safe and that no oter dogs cm near them in ase the other dog wasnt nice he was a real gentleman for them I hope to have him assessed as a therapy dog next year On the other hand i was helping a lady with her large naughty dog he jumped all over me snatched left bruises dow my legs mud all over me not enjoyable at all for me on the other hand most epopel think of obedience as in trial work and a pet as being well trained
  8. both i want a socially acceptable dog that i an also compete with though my dogs may not always be the best in either area i work hard to try and make them the best they can be i hate being jumped on by dogs especially big ones with long claws and i hate dogs that steal and go through your stuff i like the idea of the cgc and therapy dogs as well as competition obedience. But its the same everywhere there are so many badly behaved dogs in obedience showing and other sports
  9. well done ness not bad for a girl who said they'd never get a title was that really you

  14. did he run in the pen he may have stood on a thistle they are everywhere down there
  15. i have a video camera for sale i am unable to get the footage onto the puter though as my puter cant handle it but it has come in very handy for trianing and watching back i have the usb cable etc to put stuff onto the puter but am told i need a firewire set up and my putey just cant handle any more
  16. i ad horses and one day saw a guy trianing his dog at the park he was doing ud we had a chat and after that i had a look around the dog world we got our first dog from the pound and here we are my gsp was for obedience but my whippet and connor were both chosed as companions first we dont really do a lot of obedience these days and i wanted a smaller quieter dog that would be happy to dabble
  17. i like any form of trianing that enhances my relationship with my dog whther it be agility obedience erding tricks i just love strating osmething and seeing where it ends up
  18. ell done guys great effort a big brag if you ask me
  19. eventually you want your signals without too much bending in front of the face so us little dog owners can bend a bit i give all my signals at waist height though. was the person ajudge who told you not to bend burlof extended sgnal is if you hodl it there after you have said drop like waiting for the dog to do it however if i was ina trial and i had reason to beleve the dog wasnt going down i'd hold the signal and lose a couple of points for extension over lsing a lot of points for non compliance In trianing try getting your signals miniscule and also work on voice only and signal only most epopel try sigs only but a lot of dogs dont respond to voice only Leo when i said jump up i meant anticipate sorry bout that. it all goes back to how well does you dog know the cue will he do t with you behind something with your back turned you standing on a chair lying down etc do you ffer an extra bit of body languange that he has picked up for example my dog will drop anywhere anytime but i actually move my left foot a tiny bit wehn i give the signal and when i didnt move the foot he didnt drop i never even saw i was doing it tll someone pointed it out we ofte use a lt more body language than we realise then in a trial when your nervous all that extra language goes out and it becomes like communcating in broken sentences
  20. i think you duck your head slightly just before you take off in heel it looks good be careful when trianing to vary the time you stay n each position you may find your holding each position for around the same amount of seconds also be careful that you are varying the distance between each turn and position people tend to form patterns without realising it can you gt a few people to record call outs for you to listen to on an mp3 whiler working the dog he looks great though but if he tends to anticipate thats what i would oh and start teaching him positions on the move that will help him learn to wait for the right cue to take of also when you have him in postion make minor movements without indictaing heel so he learns not to move ff to quickly so if you halt and need to brush hair out of your face he doesnt jump up lol
  21. how big a crate are you looking for i have a couple here im thinking of getting rid off
