  1. hmm have made note to buy several pairs of scissors at shopping this week lol
  2. yeah i know but it would be cool t have a centre like some of the ones in the states set up for competition people really most clubs though people say are trial based arent they are in bewtween or aimed at well behaved pets one can ony dream lol
  3. how much are the class costs i want a centre where they have equipment set up and you jus pay a fee to use it then if you want a run through or a lesson they could charge more
  4. hehe wellive been to heaps of clubs and have never been really happy with any and i just want access to equipment someone who can give a trial runthrough and some nice solid dogs for teaching stays. If i was to have t reccomend a club school to someone to train at umm i couldnt
  5. thanks Dave We've been through the crying bit the why us bit and are now accepting that these thngs happen and you cant always see them. It was a shock to wacth such a young pup die Des was having soo muh fun with him and they were so bonded to each other it took him ten years to get over losing his pointer i dont want him to dwell on what hapened for too long this time
  6. yeah right hubby first sorry he has to wait until everyone else has been taken care of lol anyway he has two legs and two hands and knows where the kitchen is rofl On another note one thing i find about motivating people is your own enthusiasm if you are passionate bout what you are doing and enthusiastic when taking class it tends to rub off
  7. thankyou everyone for your support its been good to talk about things and get a handle on what happened
  8. This is my concern i often hear people saying oh yeah he can be a sensitive dog or you cant change foods or he gets sick and if it were a milder liver shunt it may go unoticed especially in a pet that isnt inside with the family . Most of Lochs subtle signs i put down to being a tpyical pup and teething t wasnt until he big signs came through when it was too late that i got alarmed. Im taking connor this week to be blodod tested and im making my sister do the same as her bitch who is 12 months doe throw p a bit and gets the runs easily and can be over sensitive so i asid for the sake of a blood test lets get them both donw Can it be detected at 8 weeks wth a blood teast must ask vet about that so if des gets another pup we can just have it done for peace of mind
  9. what a sweet little puppy so young stella
  10. yes i would like to join your list would be good to be in contact with other shetie people the first reply i know the dog he has had a successful op and seems to be doing ok stella
  11. It does vary anything from fifteen dollars to ver a hundred depending on what you want and the most expensive is not necessarily the best. One on one with a good trainer is a great way to get ahandle on things and a good trainer willa rrange distractiond other dogs etc when needed but a good class is the same unless it behaviour issues then one on one is my preference
  12. thanksyou guys for being so supportive yes i love that pic connor is such a smoocher not much of a herder though that lamb beat him up head utted him on his bottom is was very funny
  13. wow thanks bonnie bank that would be great i spoke briefly to the breeder yesterday she was upset and was going to talk to the vet so i will speak to her during the week. The bitch was having her last litter and the sire is older and i think that was his last liter to so they wont be bred from again anyway the breeder was going to fond aout about haveing the rest of the litter tested so thast god also i made des come to dog club today which was good for him lots of people telling about their experiences he felt much better and realises there wwas nothing he could have done he took connor off me to go play at the dam i think its important that he keeps up with doggy stuff
  14. yes it came on suddenly over a few days our vet said his liver probabaly never functioned so the toxins would have built up quickly in his system it was really over night that the worst symptoms came through he was crying and biting as you described and would then crash then start again. Our vet is very god and there is no way he would have thought to check for it sooner as he was so young and really the signs were so mild no one noticed them until the end. Our vet says he wouldnt be surprisd if the liver is underdeveloped anyway so there would have been no way to help hi we will no more in the next few days
  15. yes its seems to b one of those tings its not a known thing but can happen and because the sypmtoms are so vague we didnt pick them up I had never nerad of it before late last year when i met a lady with a sheltie who had had it then when the vet said Loch had died from it its congeital no different to a heart defect these things happen. It took my husband ten years to decide to get another dog after he lost his girl to cancer now this has happened hes devastated
  16. well we lost our whippet a year ago very suddenly too so im really scared for my other sheltie now
  17. ive read all the stuff on the net and it makes sense but he only showed signs in the last few days he was healthy before that we are having an autopsy to check into it further as im still concerned about other underlying things in case it was a toxin
  18. i know of one other sheltie that has had a shunt but it was fixed with surgery unfortuantely with loch it was so sudden his body crashed before anything could be done
  19. hi guys We lost our puppy today to a liver shunt i understand how it works but cant help wondering if soemthing underlying triggere it in such a young dog he was just under four mnths and showed no symptoms until this week also he had his vaccs on thursday coudl that have caused hi to go down hil so fast
  20. Yes Loch was our sheltie pup connor has been moping around most of the day seems lost im still scared to let him outside in case it was soemthing here that contributed after losing Yogi i just dont know
  21. thankyou guys we have just come back from te vet he said it was a severe liver shunt and there may have been something els underlying we are having an autopsy to find out exactly hat caused this as i still have connor here and im scared its something toxic though te vet doesnt think so Loch was not quite four months old its seems so unfair to doe so young
