Re-establishing Focus

Feralpup thast a hard question to answer im fortunate in that i dont need to go to classes but i still fnd myself fliting from one place to another in search of a club i feel comfortable and can get what i want without feeling on the outer. Erny Thankyou yes i did look into the ndtf course but its too expensive for me to undertake as part of my hobby. Actually i was recently asked if i'd consider taking on the challenge of training cocordinator and aftera lt of thought i turnd it down simply because dogs are my passion and i dont want to get lost in the politics of clubs.. I love trianing dogs i love helping other people train their dgs but where i am now i can pick and choose when and who i help unike you guys that have to listen to excuses and deal with the 'fun' people I dont envy you lol -

Thankyou erny Im tired of all th club bashing and who does what best personally i'd liek to see clubs and schools come togetehr and share experiences and ideas maybe help bring in speakers and share resources because the way thigns are with the clubs all shutting each other out we cant move forward I ve been to traditional clubs and reward based clubs and they all fall short soemwhere im talking community clubs here I cant say whether i'd approve or disapprove of ADT but i can say at least you guys jump in and try to work through peoples problems rather than dump them in the too hard basket or pass them off to others or worse ignore them in hope they will go away I just wish other clubs were willing to learn and listen and open their minds -

all schools wheter private or community have the odd poor instructor the different is that at a private school it is easy to remove them from employ whereas in a community club it can be hard While i think what the OP was told is rubbish it seems that the achool in question is doing their best to help and rectify the problem and sort things out whereas i know of many schools that would just say tough Id liek to think that forcing a drop to make it faster would not be the norm at any school but then i know that there are plenty of cmmunity schools that ould say to do the same Ive been to most clubs at one time or another whether to join or observe and i must say none have impressed me all that much if one thing is done well something else is lacking At least in this situation someone is trying to do something to help -

oops and i thought things were tongue in cheek lol -
rofl but i think its been done before
-
rofl maybe you just like helping the ladies more than the men lol
-
yes but in general there are more women at clubs in the first place i wouldnt have a clue how many epople i'd base it on just observation over many years of being associated with clubs of the 10,ooo poeple to begin with ho many were female and how many were male also did the males find they had achieved enough controla and were satified easier than the women also are the women staying on because they enjoy the social side of going to classes whereas the men are busy with other things. Do more of the men that come to trianing work longer hours or have other interests to begin with

Teaching A Formal Retrieve
wheres my rock replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
not if you teach him to be steady whenhis head is on your hand it also stops him lifting his head high so the dumbell rolls back -

teach him to rest his chin in your hand then ask him to take the dumbell while he is pressing his chin to your hand and mark it he cant chew and hld his chin Also does the dumbell fit right often chewing is because the the dumbell is big and rolls around in their mouth -

Its funny isnt it i just spent three months working one on one with a lady to help her trian her very nice foster dog. Hes been going really well today rang me to ask how to go about rehoming him as she doesnt want to bother exercising him anymore shes fed up with going out in the cold each day to walk him I didnt see that coming im still a bit surprised

Interesting topic I don think working or not working has anyhting to do with how well adjusted a dog is From my experience its up t how much work the owner will put it Shoey works fulltime but her dogs are realy well adjusted well trained she takes time to go to dog school and do all the right things Our neighbour is home all day had good intentions but the day i see them walk the dog i'll probabaly faint let alone take it to trianing it barks all day and is very bored. Whether people are home or working you have to be willing to put in effort thats all

i cant see any problem with using hand signals but i do agree with HR is obedience creating too much pressure for him -
Hi Burlof It is surprising the amount of people that sign up and dont return we have a few very dedicated people in our club that seem to be there every week hail or shine but the rest just come in spits and spats

Neat Straight Drops?
wheres my rock replied to shoemonster's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
straight lines are a big prob for me with my eyes so i asked a mobility officer and they showed me how we all tend to takke a larger step with one side of our body hence we will be crooked when having nothing to line up with so if you stand squre and focus on taking same size steps you naturally walk straighter it takes time and practise but it is true -

lose a few points but it can create them crepping forward on the signal exercise and not dropping lal the way in the drop on recall but plenty drop that way and do very well -
