  1. hi leo just read your blog yes changing names is fine we always had a policy new home new name new life
  2. cant make that date to close to chrissy how about straiht after chrissy at kcc that i could do oh leo tell us more about this pupy prospect we have just flown a five month old down from qland and hes fantastic
  3. i agree i would never take my dogs out over 25 to work them my shelte would happily wrk in 40 hes work obsessed lol but i still wouldnt do it i aso feel for the judges stuck out in the sun for at elast an hour if they didnt stop the trial i think its time the vca took a leaf out of otecs book and put a policy in place i have asked for a copy of the otec policy to post here but its along the lines of the clubs must have a thermometer out in the area the trial is held and when it hits a cetain temp 35 i think then the trial must be suspended until the temp drops etc etc Personally yesterday if they werent hoping on that cool cange hitting early i would have cancelled it from the onset but thast not within th policy
  4. hmm thats a good question We had a bad year this year connor has been through the wars and we've come out the other end not knowing whether he will get to compete at all however this year we had a lot of fun. Goals for next year would be to get connors leg back to normal and maybe go for his novice and open title it will all depend on him and how he responds to treatment. I hope to have another dog in training ready for novice at the latter end of the year WE're going to give tracking a look for something for connor to do if his leg isnt up to scratch as hes an active dog and needs brain food of some sort so really we are very up in the air
  5. maybe they were hoping in vain that the cool change would hit earlier
  6. If you read the vca gazette the heat policy for obedience trials was in it on several occasions it coincides with the rspcas guidelines
  7. be thinking of you crash be safe my sster hasnt been called in yet she may today
  8. sorry was resonding to helen i also didnt realise this was restricted to one group as for converting seeings i actually signed up to do ndtf last year but didnt because travelling was too hard for me i cant see what i would be converting epople to it isnt a them and us both courses have their merit and both are worth looking into which one is better to do is up to the indvidual and their expectations the reason i said we were contacting delta is being in vc and knowing how many hours the ndtf students will be working at ndtf recognised schools i doubt they would have time to volunteer to a club where it wouldnt be recognised toward their cert whereas delta studnets need places to run clases as part of their criteria so why not help someone out wit a place to do that component does that clear things up
  9. if you like agility but dont want a working dog maybe a nova scotia
  10. do schutzhund clubs or tracking clubs or agility clubs run basic classes for obedience for the public
  11. agility well hast another story we have two agility only clubs near us both with huge waiting lists because they just cant take anymore safely. so epople do want to do dog sport and are interested in clubs that specifically cater to their chosen sport Obedience gets a raw deal because its treated as something than you do when youve gone through the classes at a general club not something specialised that has important foundations that need to be set
  12. hi jules trouble at club is most instructors cant teach past the basic stuff so they dont ad it to the clas criteria
  13. we have aring every wek and get lots of members come over to ask what we are doing and how to get there its surprising how many epople show an interest in that level for many tough its just to daunting her they have a dog that wont sit and watchign a dog that will drop on a recal at hgh speed many clubs can be a bit clicky and tend to ignore newbies rather than make them welcome whch is a shame as they are the future of trialling
  14. we're thinking of asking delta if any students would be interested in volunteering to run puppy school at our cub we're sorst instructors but we dont have one and really need one
  15. staffys have an excellent reputation in the trial ring with many 200's and class winners. My first dg was a cross and we then found trialling he went through too ud but my second dog i chose for natural retrive and a good nose but with high drive thinking what i needed for the trial ring i chose a gsp and she was an amazing trial dog. since then companionship and ease around the house lower exercise requirements became more important so we had the whippet who would have been a great tril dog then our sheltie who is great though his nerves suck and his knees pop hes probably not going to trial much as he may not be physically able hubby has a bc hes always loved them and wanted a good wrking dog At present im als trianing a german spitz who is very sweet Dino is young but i think he'll be a lovely trial dog he has a veryy strong desire to please and is a piglet. so i guess we have changed our focus as our lives have changed and each time have chosen our breed based on different criteria however if i was a dead serious trial person still and wanted hgh scores lots of ribbons and to win top dog my first choice would always be the gsp
  16. i agree mrd the dobe is swinging our his rear so therfore not paralell to the handler he gsd is doign part of the top dog routing he is a lovely dog to watch work down here most of the top trial dogs dont hold there heads up looking at the handler they tend to prefer looking ahead and at the handler its the style. I also agree he boxer has to do nothing and has his reward right there all th time a friend of mine gained her cd here with her borzoi averaging 180's and yet in the states when she trialled there he was in the 190's she said the heeling is like a warmup up back and thast over no stands downs or left about turns it goes for under a minute wheres here heeling patterns go up to three wth some judges Because we haveto keep stopping and staring for all the rops etc its much harder to keep mmentum and rhythm and they have the figure eight seperate so you can play inbetween i like that i look at that routine and wish i lived over there
  17. http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/whip...nt=354f84a6.flv here is his retrieve we never got to perfect the front he could do a recall in under three seconds would have loved to watch a judge try and get a down in in that time
  18. http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/whip...P1010006MOV.flv and my whippet at around one
  19. this is connor when he was around 8 months he was being naughty this day but ts not bad http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/whip...heel14auf06.flv
  20. http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/whip...rent=saliba.flv heres one of victorias top trial dog sorry about te video quality
  21. though this is where a problem lies many of those who become instructors do wish to go on and trial but they cant get the help they need at their club
  22. no shoey it was arunthrough no food on the real thing but really how hard would it be to keep focus that long boxa yours is nicer
