  1. cheat with the bag i wear a vest for trianing and i always wear a vest in the ring i never use a bum bag lol but vests are great especially ones with lots of pockets ehe Yes Bloss it is one of the most common trinaing problems people have and even many experienced trainers have it so your guys arent alone. For you lagging remember doodling use doodling to get the tur without heeling
  2. Its why people say clicker cant work on kids the problem is actually that they bribe they say if you do this i will gve you this not see something well done and then reward the steps toward a bigger job
  3. we often use many cues that we dont even see are there at first yes use your hand but i'd alsobe asking for basics with hands behind back sitting downstadning on a chair from behind a bench using just verbals then the same using just a signal really think about what your ody does and what you want for the end product for example connor has the best drop ever however he only does it at adistance if i move my foot a tiny bit while giving voice and and signal he will do just voice just hand but still has to have the foot somethig i never noticed till someone else saw it for trialling i cant move that foot so had to work really hard to get rid of it as an extra cue because i hadnt profed my signals in the above way he had developed a habit i didnt want naughty me
  4. there is a huge diference between motivation and reward and chaning the motivator isnt what is needed for around the house compliance what would be the difference between having to show the treat or wave a toy around for heavy trianing for sports my trigger to get the dog fired up is simply saying we're working that means lots of oppurtunity for treats and toys and heaps of fun howevere when we're done i say all gone finished which means no more training but i still expect basic obedience if i say come come if i say sit sit. Around the house you do not want to have to go ge something everytime you need your dog to obey so its time for the dog to learn delay in reward i say sit you sit then we may go get a treat toy what ever have apat get on the couch. Remeber this is not a beginner dog this is an avanced dog saying i'll only do it if you have something good for me so why change the something good srry uhah you do what i say regardless of whether i have a treat or toy and then if you listen we'll discuss treats lol as for keep going signals we hve discussed this i have too good for heeling and moving exercises and hold for stationary onesbut the problem in theis case is not keeping going its complying n the first place rofl
  5. yes i have a gorgeous sheltie ready for trialling has the nicest heeling and does most his ud but his structural problems will stop him enering the ring he wont trial so no its not just p to the trainer also breedign and showing is a hobbie if we were really preserving breeds then each breed would still be working in its original field and i know plenty that cant
  6. so sorry to hear of your loss its never easy to part
  7. now thats agood goal loose lead walking is often overlooked when you are involvd in so many activities
  8. umm you dont just teach move forward and then forget about it you go back and forth slowly building as you go yoyoing between a earlier level in a harder situation and harder level in an easier on two steps forward one step back
  9. shoey ive been doign this 20 years and am still learning with every new dog trianign a dog is a bit like playign with a yoyo you let them out then bring them back and let them out again until they listen in all circumstances
  10. Hi Shoey RElax grasshopper eddie has a long way to go he is going through a lot of changes at present and with the implant wearing off he has probabaly had a durge of hormones he is also becoming a grwon up and will test the waters. Its time to set up a trianing schedule pick three things he knows well to work on at home no new things not play stuff and start askign for them in various spots at home and have no treats in site sometimes click and get a treat others just a good boy off you go to play Remeer the article i gave you on motivatio vs reward and the story ii told you about the highly trianed dog that only listened to the person with the red treat box. Its easy to have happen. start with sit drop and going to heel. Also continue wit the putting food up and then asking him to come give you eye contact before getting to get it then a pace of heeling then two. Nor unlike drive trianing he needs to learn to comply before he gets his reward and if you always have abumbag ful of treats he knows when he has to listen and when not. Ask for sit if he ignores you walk of give him ten seconds to comply if he does make a huge fuss and go get a treat. also start thinking about manners when you are out demand respect if hes going to ignore you then put him back on back on lead no pulling if it takes half an hour to get from car to park tough walking nicely is expected. time to tighten his apron strings until he starts to listen and respect your wishes. You dont have to be mean or tough just consistent with him. Leave the free shaping and tricks for now and focus on control exercises until he will listen no matter what all the time Eddie is a good dog and your doign fine jus hang in there a bit longer and you'll start to see the light at the end of the tunnel
  11. we keep trianing my dogs would die if i didnt work them they love it too much lol gee your lcky we dot go back till february
  12. well done glory your doing great. Hard to give ideas over the net patience s a virtue isnt it really its all in the timing and breaking it down so she can be successful knowing when to ask for more wehn to back off less is more is the best thing to remember i would prefer to break off training a bit soon than try to push and do to much. are you triaing with anyone that cn help you with timing and make suggestions based on your dogs situation
  13. add some trick training fast moving sessions coverine four or five things but move from one to the next quickly and delibrately play games at home like hide and seek. Welcome to the jys of bcs they are generaly very active dogs

  15. exercise and training a tire puppy is a happy puppy bcs need lots of mental stimulation toys are great but learning to work for you is much better we find ten minutes of training is like a walk around the block teach them some tricks agiity anything to make them use their brain and work with you

  17. your a member of wp get a drink from hthee or the shep club if its a sunday
  18. i have both clickers and verbal markers personally i prefer the verbal i find im quicker and it takes much less coordination rofl. I can train a behaviour faser with verbals than i can a clicker dogs arent stupid they read out body languge if your shitty they know beofre you say a thing whether you use the clicker or not they still know when things are edgy. i went to a worksop recently and got the same results using a verbal as everyone else did using the clicker im mch busier than they were i have often foudn when you stick a clicker in someones hadn they become to clinical training should be interactive like a dance between dog and handler not something out of a skinner video rofl . WEll thats my opinion anyway
