  1. would depend on you meaning of flooding and hw it was done going over the steps was importat to access the house running through an agility tunnel isnt important but like i sad depends on how it was done
  2. are any of you on msn would make it easier for organising things
  3. agility is about confdence and that would be good for her yes you can make it fun by making sure she gets huge rewards every step of the way so that even though the dog wak might be big and scarey she gets oodles of hwatever she loves for going near it then putting fot on it etc. My whippet was terriefied of heights not sure why but after a while he learned to love agility also you need equipment that cmes apart and goes reallsmall so nothing is daunting find her comfort zone then go from there. I think working on agility or a retrieve with a dog that isnt into it is fine just not earpinching or trying to force the dog through something that would be unfair Ive taught a few non retrieving dogs to love to retrieve
  4. Ive had one like that before sounds like your doing an excellent job with her
  5. if anyones wondering this is dino http://dino-diary.blogspot.com/ blog hasnt been updated coz we thought he was going home but now hes staying
  6. hmmm not good on expadning things in words I started by breaking the exercise into componenets and the component we needed to fix was the go out not he already had done the box and i used to hold him between my legs rev him up then release him and let him run out and click for the take of so with the retrieve i started with the same priciple held him back threw food then said are ready read go release and as he took of clicked of course he grabbed the food then came back and go an extra reward then once had th idea right in my head i held him and threw a ball revved him up said ready ready goo released and clicked as he took of my dog then tunrns for the treat hes not retrieve mad i vared the distance sometimes clicking straight away others waiting till he got to the ball then others after he picked up did it about twenty times over a few days then i threw the DB and just did a couple of take offs and from then on he took off Does that make sense
  7. Off topic Connor was slow on the go out so i started marking and rewarding just the leaving my side first to a ball then to teh dumbell because i marked he didnt have to continue on but cam bac for the treat the first few i really revved him up and got him running to thrown food Now he bolts out to the DB i agree with seminars be nice to be able to afford to go to more but alas i cant
  8. im open minded so long as the method is humame bein used correctly and is fair I think the retrieve is a perfect example i dont agree with earpinch or forced retrieves if a dog is that reluctant to retrieve then try agility or something the dog may find more enjoyable i think of why you would need to teach a retrieve for safety so to me its a non issue and i hate watching epople at club get stuck into a dog for non compliance of a retrieve it has been bullied into doing in the first place. I do beleive that ninety percent of time reward based works fine on its own so long as you build the behaviour correctly add distractions and up the anti always looking for that step forward you can get just as reliable compliance as using other methods 10 % of the tme you need to use something else but if that is te case you also need to have the knowledge or someone knowledable to help you with timing etc and this is where being openminded comes into play I dont go to seminars of epople i dont use the method of for my trianing with because i dont get paid to train dogs and cant afford to spend money on a seminar unless its soemthing that interests me
  9. are we moving from open mindedness to reliability here
  10. i think there is a difference between teaching tricks obedience stuff etc and discipline bad manners
  11. you havent met the barking mad dog yet had him since before christmas and lack of trinaing and socialising show really bad
  12. you guys will be finished training by the time we get there
  13. i cant do the 29th either Thast good and bad what seminar on the gold coast
  14. cosmolo you have to go on the 14th or we wont finally get to meet maybe we could meet later i cant get there before 3.30 anyway unless hubby has day off
  15. i agree leo thats why at club ishove the end in my pocket if im in a class or i pop a long line on very lifght weight if im trianing alone the end is clippped to my jeans so noone can tell me off for having a dog off lead because we do a lot of two food and running away i like the long line gives us freedom but we are still obeying the rules Wit my advanced dog i dont bother because he would never leav the area we are working too nervous but with the pup i use it as an umbilical cord just incase he sees a pretty girl and forgets his trianing he hasnt had much exposure to lots of other dogs and gets rather excited about the whole dog club thing We do a lot of dooling heeling which really teachs where and how to find heel
  16. i hate leads i just fumble with them all the time usually if im at club i just shove it in my pocket
  17. i usea combination of choose to heel type work and finding heel position using the clicker to fine tune head up and shoulder target
  18. uk arent shorter but they dont do as many sits drops and stands as we do we have judges here that have 3 minute heeling patterns remeber crufts is also not their basic level more like top dog
  19. hi guys remember in the states thay arent doing srops and stands or left about turns there heeling goes for like 30 secs easy much easier than here when the dog gets momentun then has to perform different things same in the uk getting consistent moving close head up heeling is easy its when you add all the stops and starts it gets harder I have friends in the us that have trialled in australia and call our helign an endurance how good would it be to just stack a dog for the stand for exam I liek the uk heeling but i dont like the crowding myself i have enough trouble not tripping over my dog with out it walking on top of me rofl
  20. i'll be at the 14th around 3.30 i think but not the 28th Took psycho dog aka Dino out this morning to see if he remeber any of what brief trianing i did with him before chissy he does remeber but boy is he enthusiastic about it lol think i'll be drmemelling hs nails before the next session I love add dogs they really keep you on your toes
  21. rofl cool and you can have psyhco can sit still let alne learn anything and teach him novice for me sounds like a fair swap i'll even chuck in scent discrimination as a topping to seal the deal
