Do You Have To Train At A Club
wheres my rock replied to Tunsafun Boxers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i only use a club for distraction and access to equipment im one of those horrible members that doesnt instruct or help out just shows up does what needs to be done and leaves of gas bags with friends. we dont start teaching heel till pupies are a bit older are co ordinated and finished growing we teach attention backend awareness on and off switch etc but no heeling i dont use a cue word for eeling as my dogs already know attention and are always looking at me i just start walking a big circle with good treats and click wehn they trot up beside into heel then build steps and move in different directions We teach find heel fr set up which i use lets work and then of we go sometimes i say clse when i step off other times i dont dont know why i do guess its habit. wehn im finished trial training i say its ll gone open hands we're done my dogs know then that they can sniff play walk to the end of the lead so long as they mind their manners they are pretty free to do what they like they can still get rewards but its not intense work anymore. my sheltie will somtimes look stunned wehn i free him when he ses al the activity around him he tends to block it out when we work. Focus is the main thing a trial dog needs if you build strong focus then trianing is easy. We went back to club on the wekend and im not sure if i will botther rejoining as i hated being there too many barking naughty dogs the grunds crap full of thistles so we may just train alone -
wouldnt worry gemmas a one prson dog i cant even get her to coe in some days i'll oent he back dor nd call her in and she just stares at me like but wheres my daddy when i feed her she just looks at the bow as if i gave her poison connor was like that too with hubby hes a mummys boy but hes grown out of it hes still all mine but is happy to go for a walk with dad now soemthing he would not do before without encouragement and we're both dog people lol

i know what your saying jules if you have to many it will end up with having to have one person help the beginners etc not quite what was origianlly planned i was thinking of a trian your own dog and if you ned a hand with something then get someone to have a look and discuss maybe get a runthrough that type of thing im free over easter was panning to head to kcc at least one day over the hols just not sure which -
Who Is Training Who?
wheres my rock replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i belive all dogs to gain a champion should either be titled in a working area f the test is there ie basic retrieving trial test herding instinct or they should get their cgc which shows the dog has brains fits wel into society has a good temprement as well as beauty there are far to many crappy tempremented show dogs around buts thast off topic I know plenty of show / obed people there body language the way they carry the lead indicates to the dog whether its a in close and st suto routine or a show one you can do both easily -

Couldnt tell you i would have to see the dog i beleve there is always way to motivate a dog maybe its too soon maybe you ned to build more trust dont know i havent seen the dog or tha handler but i wouldnt start with a tunnel i''d make it simpler and set it up in way that the dog will gain confidence and success think outside the square it would be done at home in the backyard where the dog feels confident. but this is going way off track to being open minded -

ok see i would still get the tunnel and the retrieve i would choose not to use force but still get the results and quickly i was after so i wouldnt say just dont teach it thast the difference i guess I was forced to face a fear once not only was the experience traumatic i never spoke to the person again and gave up a sport i was once addicted too
