  1. Another vote for the Mazda 6. I love mine, its pretty good on fuel, roomy and it has handy clips in the back to attach harnesses to. Not too high for the dogs to jump into either. One thing that really annoys me about it though is when you have the back windows down you get that loud helicopter whirling noise...if that makes sense!
  2. thats just plain cruel.................................making us wait for photos!!
  3. How long does a deer antler bone tend to last? They are rather pricey.
  4. Cavnrott...I understand about not wanting your dogs to be there for ages. The groomer I take my boy to always wants to keep him for at least four hours, and thats only for a wash and blow dry!
  5. Hi Kirsty, My old girl had 2 attacks of vestibular, and like you I thought she had a stroke. Our first one happened at 3am, I awoke to a commotion in the bedroom and the poor girl was on the ground, and she had also pooped herself but no vomitting. Thanks goodness the vet arrived pretty quickly as I was saying my goodbyes to her, I really thought she would have to be PTS. But the vet diagnosed vestibular and said that there was a good chance that she would make a reasonable recovery. This was hard to believe given the state that she was in. But over the next couple of weeks, she probably regained about 80% mobility, the majority of which was gained within the first 5 or so days. Its a scary thing to see happen, and she was always a little shaky on her feet after that episode. She had another episode a few months later, but it wasnt nearly as severe as the first one, and thankfully I knew just to keep her calm. I wish your girl well...bear in mind that she might be too scared now to move much at all, especially being at a strange place (the vets). Is she staying at the vets tonight or coming home to you? Was she eating? My old girl was eating small amounts within about 8 hours of her attack, which gave me some reassurance.
  6. i am so sorry Sahlas mum.....your pain and grief is coming through so deeply in your posts and I feel so sorry for you. Life just isnt fair at times, its moments like these where you really wonder why. Draw strength from Pancho, he will be feeling your sadness too. RIP pretty Sahla.
  7. So sorry for you dollygirl, so much to deal with in such a short time. RIP gorgeous Dolly, you were too young. Please dont blame yourself Dollys mum, sometimes life is just plain cruel.

  11. Those poor bubs...thats just outright disgusting!
  12. Would love to see a picture of her....thanks. Steve, hope you dont think I am trying to stir any pot here, but I am wondering *roughly* how much the bill was for (when it is finalised) and how much was raised by DOL towards the bill. I dont mind donating to worthy causes (which I did here yesterday), but would like to see a little more info simply because it makes me feel good at how generous DOL'ers can be. Thanks.
  13. That was a lovely little tribute to Archie, he sounds like a very sweet grey taken way too soon. RIP special boy. :D
  14. My old girl Gemma was a car cryer....and yes its distracting when driving. I turned up the stereo, she would settle after a little while.
  15. If it looks dismal on the day, we probably wont come.... :D I hate getting wet although I am sure Billy wouldnt mind.
  16. Hope Misty pulls through ok..sounds like her family need her badly with everything they have been through. Small donation made.
  17. I am heading up to the DOL meet this Sunday at Kepala...anyone interested in coming up with me? (just throw in a few $ for fuel) If you dont know about Kepala you are missing out bigtime.. Theres a couple of threads on here, basically its a play day for the dogs and a social get together for DOL ers. The dogs have a ball running around and playing in the pool and we get to have a delicious lunch. I have room for 1 or possibly two dogs in my wagon if you are interested.
  18. I think its a great price...we had four hours of entertainment and one very tired cocker for $15.

  20. Thanks for the replies and comments..i feel I am fighting a losing battle when his behaviour is so instinctual. Tapferhund and Nekhbet....I know he wants to do a lot more and I have just finished taking him to a 'adult puppy' class which was actually really good fun for both of us. Ive tried to enrol in obedience, but both clubs here have been booked up for a little while now, and arent taking enrolments until February now. I also have a young guy once a week to take him for a really good walk/run, which he loves. I have some mobility restrictions which does restrict what I can do with him to a degree.
  21. My cocker Billy is now just on 12 months and over time his barking at birds has become more and more...to the point I now need help on how to handle it. He gets so excited..his bark becomes really high pitched and its non stop. Billy is usually indoors when I am home, which is a lot as I only work part time. He is exercised every day...about a 30 minute walk, and I also play ball and scent games with him around the house. But....as soon as he is in the backyard he is looking for birds...he looks up tv antennas on my neighbours houses, fences..etc. And if he sees one, he will bark and bark at it. If he is indoors and he can see a bird outside, he will start up the high pitched bark and then race outside through the doggie door to get as close as possible to the bird. What I have tried so far: - distraction, that is when he starts i distract him with a toy or initiate a game. This works sometimes, but is only a bandaid solution. - growling at him/telling him off - water gun...but usually he is so excited and hyped up he just doesnt care. I am really worried about this as I am on a 700sqm block, worried that I will receive a noise complaint. I am on the verge of going around to the neighbours and telling them that its something that I am aware of and am trying to work on a solution. I have bought last week a electric collar....but want that to be my very last resort, if I decide to use it at all. ( I bought it because the shop had 20% off and I figured I could still return it if I decide against it) Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know that this behaviour is instinctual in him, but feel that its just getting out of control now.
  22. http://tools.geelongadvertiser.com.au/phot...tegory_id=17981 There are a few photos of dogs and their owners in the above link...gawd I have to say you people are dedicated! Horrible conditions yesterday, at least the sun is coming out a bit today.
  23. Assuming you are coming down the Princes Highway, to get to the showgrounds is pretty easy. Do you know where Kardinia Park is? Go straight past Kardinia Park (where Skilled Stadium is), it will be on the left. Take the next left at the traffic lights, (Red Rooster at this intersection) into Fyans Street. Follow Fyans Street about 2km until you see Vic Roads on the right, and you have to veer left towards a roundabout, go over the railway lines and turn right at the roundabout. You will now be on Carr St. Travel about 300mts to another roundabout, you will see the showgrounds on the right. If you turn right at this roundabout you will see on the left a strip of grass that runs along the back of the dog showing section. Parking is allowed here and is probably the closest. Hope this helps!
  24. Great photos girls...I now have a serious case of camera envy!! Love the one of Dexter and Hector playing ball... Mo is one cool dude...such a gorgeous GAP dog, Ive always loved the look of greys but never been up close to one before. That was Billys first swim, although I did have my doubts he was going to make it at first, I think a couple of people were ready to jump in and save him! We had an absolute ball....it was so lovely seeing everyones beautiful dogs running around enjoying the day. ps...dammit I should have had two of those choc muffins, they were so moist and yummy! cya all next month I hope!
