  1. Thanks everyone for your guidance. I'd find the answer here.
  2. Aloha DOL! It's time to pick up some flea/worming products and I've been keen to try Sentinel Spectrum, but as I've settled on this solution I've realised I have a conundrum. Is it ok to use if your dog is already on the annual heartworm injection? I appreciate everyone guidance and anything beyond the (Drontal and Frontline/Advantix option I currently use).
  3. I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend where to purchase flower remedies online? I've had a bit of a look online but it is difficult to chose who to purchase from just from the site alone. Thank you in advance for all your help.
  4. It's a bit of a hike but I recommend Jane Harper from Dogs on Track. From about six months Baci started to show signs of being anti-social and we went through many forms of training and behaviourists to try to help her and failed. She was then attacked by another dog which furthered her fear aggression. We went to see Jane after being recommended her and Baci has come along really well. It really helps that Jane has a completely non-reactive dog to bring along to training and we are now able to walk right beside dogs without any nipping. We are now hoping to return to classes and in time Lure Coursing. That is if I can catch my rat bag!
  5. I'm sure there are heaps of these sorts of questions but I would love some advice on what food to move to now there is no Oijen. In the past we have fed Royal Canin, Nutro, then Orijen. We have generally found them all to be good, though I am finding ti difficult keep weight on Baci at the moment under Orijen. So I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on what they think and recommend.
  6. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I'll probably take her off it for a couple of days and feed chicken and rice. Then feed twice a day and see how Baci goes. Will keep you all up to date.
  7. It is after she is put to bed as she sleeps in the laundry.
  8. Food was introduced gradually and strangely the throwing up etc is only happening in the evening. Odd considering she is fed bright and early in the morning. But otherwise really bright and sparky as normal. It is a puzzle.
  9. Hi everyone. I was wondering if I could pick your minds for some advice. I have recently have swapped Baci on to Orijen (previously we were feeding her Nutro and this worked really well). We feed her a cup and a half as it is difficult to keep weight on her. Unfortunately over the last couple of days she has been throwing up and other horrible things overnight. So a couple of questions: - Is it the food? - Is there anything I can do rather than throw the food out? - What sort of food should we feed in the future? Thank you in advance for all your help.
  10. ;) One can only keep working hard at training as I hope she'll be with me for years and years (our last Border passed away at 4 years).
  11. Distracted by the idea that the Lure might start again. So she dashes around the field looking for it and makes me look like I've done absolutely no training what so ever (which isn't true). Such a little bugger.
  12. Thank you for everyone's thoughts. I wanted to give whistle training a go when I needed to recall Baci when there are large distractions. At Lure Coursing events there is a large field and she is just so distracted. So trying a difficult noise to see if she will respond to it after I do lots of proofing.
  13. I'm considering purchasing a dog whistle to assist in a long distance recall. I'm curious to hear what people think and have they tried this method.
  14. I quite liked 'It's Me or The Dog' by Victoria Stillwell. Had lots of good basic information in it. Also there was a wonderful one called 'RSPCA Complete Dog Training Manual' by Dr Bruce Fogle. I hope it helps and other than that can I just say your Avatar is gorgeous. Go the Typewriter!
  15. I didn't get to know Suki for every long but she was just gorgeous little dog and was an amazing Lure Courser. May she rest in peace and in time you find comfort.
  16. * On the lino we just mop up with it as it gets rid of the scent. However on carpet I would wet the spot and lather the area and then wipe off. * Thank you. We think Baci is quite a pretty girl, but we're a bit bias in the household. * I'm in Bridgeman Downs which is on the Northside of Brisbane.
  17. I've always founds that Border Collies are very easy to house break and normally make errors only due to weather (as you've stated) or being unable to get out in time. If they make an error and you can catch them just correct. Then pop them outside til you can clean up the spot. I normally use a washing powder from the Supermarket called Bio Zet ... I think that is how you spell it. You'll get it under control quick smart.
  18. As another option Lure Coursing is a fantastic dog sport as is allows the dog to do whatever comes to it naturally. It is on once a month at Kuraby and the website for it is here - www.qldlurecoursing.com
  19. Though I feed Baci a super premium food I like to add raw to keep life interesting. I get bored of eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner and in the wild dogs would have a range of different things to eat depending on the season. Variety is a good thing I think.
  20. Before I start I just want to say thank you to all those who helped me out on my last question about backchatting in regards to our Border Collie puppy, Baci. But another couple of questions have popped up. 1. What do you think is the best way to lead train your puppy to walk nicely beside you? Baci walks quite nicely at home but as soon as you take her out to the outside world it is simply too exciting, she really really pulls and I have to get this under control being none too tall as this is a worry. 2. Baci has started to bark at birds and people. Is there a way to teach your puppy to be quiet after a few barks so the neighbours don't become aggravated? 3. What is the best way to teach your puppy to come to you when they bolt out of the door? Thank you for all your help in advance.

    Backchatting

I think I will need the luck. I'm absolutely terrified that I will raise her badly as our last Border Collie was a breeze to train. I suppose it doesn't help that my Mother is critical of how I raise her.
  22. I've always believed in a little bit of the dry food, raw bones and then having some sort of home cooked meal e.g. cooked rice or pasta, mixed with raw mince and fruit and vegetables (generally I've found pumpkin, carrot, buck choi, apple or peas are pretty good). But just got to see what works for your pup. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind offer Mel. I'll see what happens at preschool later tonight.
