Three of mine sleep in their crates at night and are crated at certain times during the day ie when the lawns need to mowed or visitors who are not doggy minded. All I have to say is "bed time" and it is a race to get into bed. Of course, the treat that they get might help a bit :D I also use their crates for a "time out" if they are being naughty. They just all lay down and have a snooze. Much easier when you have a puppy around too. You can place them in their crate for a short time whilst you do things around the house without puppy getting into mischief and maybe hurting themselves.

Oh No! I've Been Lulled Into A False Sense Of Security
Shelby replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my shelties has learnt how to open the baby gate and thinks it is great game to let himself and his granddaughter through to the rest of the house. Cheeky buggers - they then have zoomies round the lounge room and down the hall -
I wouldn't be taking her anywhere. Just do the best you can until pups are older. I don't think I would be having people come to view the pups at four weeks either. If they do come, I would suggest that you do not allow them to pick them up but just watch them. Your girl may be fine with you and family but having strangers around the pups will be a different thing. Some bitches are OK but others go into protective mode. Your babies look very cute and Mum looks very happy with herself too.

My goodness, you can see her thinking "I look so beautiful in my cup hat" :D

Do you mean shows or pet expos? Sydney Pet Expo is being held in February 2012 (not sure of the date) and will be held over two days.

My Dog Took Sick Yesterday With A Mystery Illness
Shelby replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
I second what Rozzie has posted. Contact a reputable staffie breeder or contact staffie rescue. Both of the places you have described just ring alarm bells. Has any health testing been done by either of these places? -
Where are the photos of Pickles enjoying the day out?? :D

How Did Everyone Fall In Love Their Pooch?
Shelby replied to huskies4life88's topic in General Dog Discussion
I fell in love with my first sheltie's mother when she came up to Sydney to be mated. I had never seen a sheltie before and getting to know Krystal over the few days that she stayed with me, I really wanted a pup. We moved into our new house and then a few weeks later, got the news that Krystal had had her litter. I was asked if I would like one of the pups - asked if I could have a girl. There was only one and Gypsy came to live with me. She became my heartdog instantly and we both learnt about showing together (was talked into giving it a try). She loved being in the show ring and became a Grand champion. She was also my foundation bitch and all my shelties come down from her. I was also given her brother when my sister-in-law couldn't keep him - Rambo was the most loving sheltie and adored everyone. He also did well in the ring. I had to say goodbye to both of them within six months of each other but they both enjoyed long & happy lives and have left behind their children for me to love. -
" Mack " ~ Aka The Old Boy From Renbury~ Rip 19/10/11
Shelby replied to julzjc's topic in Rainbow Bridge
I am so very sorry that you had such a short time with your beautiful boy Mack but what a wonderful life you gave him - full of love and tenderness. Hugs to you and Wal & the gang - am sure they are missing their gladiator as well -
I drive a Tuscon and most of the time, just have the rear passenger seats folded down. I can easily fit a 30" crate, folded down trolley, gazebo and all the grooming gear and there is still quite adequate space.

Oh damn sorry Weisnjac - the very hurtful side of breeding. Rest in peace puppies.

My youngest (16 months old) sucks on her mother's ears till they are wet as. Never had a dog do this before and it is the only thing that she sucks. My boy who doesn't let anything phase him has a fear of plastic bags Don't know why but very wary when you are changing the bags in the rubbish bin cause "it may attack him"

Congratulations Angelsun - what a very proud moment for you. Hope we get to see some photos?

Fordogs - my deepest sympathy. Have they explained why they did not contact you first? I wouldn't mind betting that the limping was caused by playing with the other pup they had. Young pups/dogs play so hard sometimes and injuries occur. There should be some way of holding these "vets" accountable for their diagnosis (sp). Such heartache

Oh so sorry to read about Webster - always very hard to say farewell to our heartdogs. Am sure he is watching over you
