  1. Best in show will start in about 15 minutes EST so hope everyone is watching
  2. Hi FH He was a lovely boy but looked to be "in between" the two types (if you know what I mean?) Although he had a good sloping topline, he wasn't overly ??? do you call it roach? Very alert, steady boy with good bone. Am sure they mentioned that he was also involved in schutzhund (sp). Will be interesting to see how he goes in BIS - am sure he will have a good chance. It didn't look like the noise or crowd fased him at all
  3. Not sure what time BIS would be on. I was up at 5.45am this morning and got to watch the Hound & Terrier Group judging (with a bit of frame freezing going on).
  4. I wouldn't be giving him too many treats in the car in case he gets car sick. As to when you get home, start with the rules you want him to follow straight away and try and get a routine going. Let him explore on his own and be there to make sure he doesn't get any scares. Try and let him settle in before having lots of people come over to meet him. It is a strange and scary world away from mum and siblings. Don't forget - photos of new puppy to be posted here
  5. Lovely german shepherd that won the pastoral group.
  6. No, I don't call myself Mummy to the dogs but do tell them "Oh look, Nanny & Poppy have arrived" They know who I mean as well
  7. Katdogs - with rarer breeds, there may only be one dog representing the breed on the day and will be judged as normal. Junior Handlers is being held on Sunday 17th April and is by nominated entry only (run a bit differently from normal shows). Final of the handlers is being held on Monday 25th April. Yes, hard to see all your favourite breeds when the show is held over so many days. You might have to narrow your list down to a chosen few
  8. Beautiful flat coat retriever that just won Best in Gundog group. Loved the braco as well. You can watch the final minutes on the link given in the first post.
  9. I normally have at least one male entire in my household along with the girls and have never had a problem with marking inside the house. I am just extra vigilant if one of the girls is in season otherwise no problems. If you get your boy as a pup and housetrain, I don't believe you will have a problem with this. I actually find it easier to housetrain the boys more than the girls. When you get your new puppy, don't forget photos
  10. Sorry CM to read that you had to say goodbye to your beautiful boy Texas. But what beautiful memories you have of him in the photos that you have posted. He was one very loved boy.
  11. I will be showing on Tuesday 19th April and then helping out on the Dogs NSW stand on Good Friday 22nd April.
  12. BL - is that Mr & Mrs Mellion? They are the people whom I know who owned a couple of pumi and they also had a kuvasz (sp). They were very well know sheltie breeders in the earlier years but they were quite elderly when they were last showing.
  13. There was a couple who owned and showed some in Sydney a few years back but I am not sure if they have them anymore. Have not seen them around recently.
  14. Elina, you and Tomi must make time to see the Sydney Royal Easter show before you go home. It starts on 15th April and finishes on or around 26th April. Quite a few DOLers will be out there on different days showing their dogs. But there are lots of other things to see as well - all kinds of livestock, sideshow alley and rides, fruit displays from the different agricultural areas around NSW, lots of different foods to taste, crafts and heaps of other exhibits Easy access via public transport as well.
  15. Here is a hairy tooshie hiding under the bed See if she can't see you, then you can't see her :D
  16. I had a friend visit with her pups (4 months old) who decided that my oldest girl would do as a substitute mum and started suckling her. She stood there with a look of bliss on her face Loved puppies all her life - didn't matter whose they were.
  17. Yes, mine attract attention - "Look at the little lassie dogs" "Oh is it a puppy? No fully grown". I think people just like the look of them. My boy Connor loves meeting people and has attended pet expos since he was 3 months old. He is now six and thinks it is job to pull people closer with his paw to make sure they pat him
  18. Wow, the babies look gorgeous Eridor. What a wonderful step mum they had. Bet they are a bit confused now they have seen the adult collies at your house ;)
  19. Yes, as Hesa suggested - check the expiry date on the bag. I was caught out a few months ago. Bought a new bag of food, started feeding it to the dogs and within a few days, they were refusing to eat it. It had a bit of a different smell about it too. On checking the date on the bag it was nearly 8 months out of date. I took it back and got a replacement. Had to give each dog some of the new kibble by hand before they accepted that it was ok again.
  20. You must make sure after bathing or getting wet that you dry the coat 100% right down to the skin. Brush the coat backwards whilst blowdrying to make sure you are fully drying. If the moisture is left near the skin especially in hot weather, hot spots break out. If hot spots occur with my shelties, I use apple cider vinegar on them. Just dab it on neat - it drys out the skin and seems to heal quickly.
  21. Makes you wonder who many first time doggy owners get talked into having this type of surgery when it isn't required. Glad all was OK for your dog and I would be doing the same once you have hip scores done
  22. Aziah - you should have seen the jar I bought back from the States for a friend. It was around 1kg of kolestrol in a jar & cost me $9.00US Amazing when they charge $25 for a small jar here. Also bought myself 2 tubes of kolestrol which is much easier to use. Sway - will certainly order my powder from you next time - great price
  23. I would also be wary of using foam in the box if you are also going to have a heating pad on. It could give off fumes which could effect the babies. I use a few layers of newspaper, then vet bed and for the first two weeks cover the vet bed with baby blankets. I am wary of using towels as little claws can get stuck in the towelling. I also make sure that surrounding the box is a puppy pen covered by sheeting to keep out any drafts.
  24. Did they also mention to give the pup crate rest? If he is on pain killers, he may do more damage since it may mask his pain. I would not let him near the adults either.
