Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
badboyz replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
So sorry for your loss Moselle. I too lost my heart dog this year in a shocking accident. Reading your story makes me tear up. I've been missing her lately. While I love my other dogs, they aren't her and never will be. Sophie. Charm will welcome you there! -
Double post gremlins!!!

I'd 2nd the Shar pei. They are very easy to live with energy wise. Also they are very easy to train, being super smart and quick to learn. I would also add the Chow to the list. From what I have heard they are quieter again than the pei.

Freebies/discounts To Proven Good Homes
badboyz replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Breeders Community
I have sold pups with a generous discount to people who have bought from me before and proven themselves excellent owners. I have also given away adults to excellent, proven homes where I know they will be spoilt and treasured family members. -
Bitches In Season - When, How Long, How Often.
badboyz replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in Breeders Community
Not necessarily. Some will follow their mothers - others not. Most of mine have had their own individual patterns. -
I sure hope it works out. AWL are great. I don't even think BBC have impounded animals listed anywhere on the web like so many others do.

Yes - my Charm was pretty much perfect. Happy, friendly, rarely barked (only ever if necessary) and then would stop, didn't jump, steal, destroy, wander, accepted new situations with grace, easy whelper and natural mother to any babies or yongsters, the leader of the pack who never had to push anyone around to prove it. Never caused fights (but did join in for support on a couple of occasions though was easily disengaged). While she wasn't great at typical obedience commands (sit/stay/roll over) she did need to be as she was generally a great dog. She is the one that converted me to the shar pei breed. All of my shar pei have been pretty easy dogs to live with compared to any other breed I have owned, but she was the closest to perfect. Miss her so much.

No way on earth from me too. As for people getting a puppy elsewhere, it happens all the time, which is why I no longer bother to keep waiting lists, at least until after the pups are born. No one is promised a pup until I meet them, which is usually around 5/6 weeks, when they are then welcome to put down a small deposit.

Fingers crossed for your dogs here also. Good to hear plenty of positive outcomes to similar situations. Hold on to that.

The new laws will have to come in, in one form or another, with 3 shires merging into 1. Currently we have 3 different laws operating, which is just not on. Most of these new laws are already in place in the old Pine Rivers district. I can say that I have never had any problems with that council since I have held a breeder's permit. The rates are mostly the same as I have payed in the past. 2 good things I can see is that I will no longer be subject to continual yearly inspections, not that it was a problem, but was a nuiscance having to chase them up when not home and re-arrange appointments. Also I have always been limited strictly to 4 dogs, which is very hindering. Now I may well be able to upgrade that number a little, which would be great. Not that I want any more dogs, but it would give me the freedom to run on a pup or two. The biggest change will be the use of a the permit number in advertising. I rarely breed nowadays, so I can't see this being a problem. They did stress that all they were discussing was in reference to registered hobby breeders only - not commercial breeders.
-
Thanks for the warning Steve. They came across as all wonderful and friendly and "we want to help you". New laws are not yet up for review until about the 25th October. I have had a breeder's permit for years now anyway, so they already know about me.
-
I spoke to lady on phone yesterday, as I am still awaiting my permit renewal and the re-invoicing of my individual rego bills which were incorrect. She mentioned they only have 40 people with breeder's permits on their register in the whole shire. Not sure how that happened. She also mentioned they want to instigate a permit number to be used in all advertising, so that when on the hunt for backyard breeder's, when they see the permit number, they will know those are legitimate breeders. Sounds interesting. As much as I hate going to meetings, and I think I will make the effort this time. With all the problems they are having combining the info from the 3 shires, I think it will be worth being involved at this important time, and encourage others to attend.

Really great news - thanks for posting.

For what you are looking for I would recommend contacting PADS http://www.pads.org.au/. They may be able to offer the sort of classes you are wanting.

I believe that there are markets at Lawton showgrounds that allow dogs. ROJ on the forum goes regularly, so perhaps pm him.

Should I Or Shouldn't I? Any Thoughts Appreciated.
badboyz replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Moral of the story SC - don't leave old bones lying around! Seems she didn't hurt him, just scared the bejeebers out of him. All good and a new lesson learnt for the boy. I definately see foster failure written all over his eager little face. Love the video and the name choice really suits him. He reminds me very much of my Dylan, with that keeness to learn. My boy looks at me very much the same way, even now as he is coming up to 5 yrs. -
Beautiful pets - beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing. eta. I can understand why it's his favourite bed - I reckon I could sleep in it too!

For Those That Don't Look In Off Topic
badboyz replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you for posting this BM. I haven't been to off topic for a bit and didn't know. -
I for one consider shar pei to be "grown up" dogs. Even as young pups they are much more settled then other breeds I have owned, or come across. Over my years as an owner and breeder I have taken many pups and dogs to puppy preschool/obedience and more recently agility training at local obedience clubs. I have found the shar pei, even as young pups have been so much calmer and more able to focus then most other breeds of pups, that generally want to play and jump and just have a rollicking good time. The Shar Pei are far more interested in the people around them than the other pups/dogs. Interestingly, research has found the shar pei to be one of the breeds very close genetically to the wolf. http://www.hilltopanimalhospital.com/dog%20genome.htm The nine breeds mentioned as closer genetically to the wolf are: Shar Pei, Chow Chow, Shiba Inu, Akita, Basenji, Afghan, Saluki, Malamute, Husky

Hi Spottychick, just been reading this thread for the first time (not on dol much these days). What a great thing you've done taking on this little handful of trouble. Really enjoying your stories. Seems Pepper is putting him well and truly in his place, which will teach him faster than anything. I'm sure he will learn some manners soon, as he seems to have already. Good job! Oh and I think Dylan is an excellent name! Same as the boy in my avatar. -

Code Of Ethics Breached And Dogs Qld Don't Seem To Care
badboyz replied to Puppoochi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unlike other dog bodies in Australia, Dogs Qld is not run by elected officials, but by appointed members of the RNA. So while they are very efficient in some areas, often more so than elected bodies, they are also lacking in areas that other, more passionate, elected officials woud excel. Sorry they are not taking your complaint seriously Poodiful, but keep at them. -

Great to hear how you are progressing Jed. Your posts all sound so calm and accepting. I am sure you have your bad, sad days, but your positive attitude, on the whole shines through, and is very inspiring. Keep healing! -
What Do You Use To Walk Your Dog And Why?
badboyz replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I ticked both flat collar and other - because the collars I use for the shar pei are limited slip collars, similar in function to a martingale, but in the style of a flat collar. This is due to their wrinkled skin making their necks thicker, and it easy for them to slip out of a plain flat collar. I use a flat collar for the chihuahuas.
