Maybe you could make some sort of hammock to carry her around the house with you a bit so she gets more bonded to the smell and feel of you. Like a baby pouch. Maybe out of an arm sling or pillowcase - something soft and cottony so she can smell you and feel your body heat. She must spend alot of time alone.

Barf Diet And New Puppie Owners
badboyz replied to Russkie30's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I raise my pups on as much variety as I can. They are initially weaned on raw mince & vegies (from Big Dog Pet Foods). As they get older the raw mince & vegies is their primary diet (maybe breakfast & dinner), but I will give a variety for their lunch time meal: dry food, Nature's Gift canned food, Scotty's Premium meat rolls, rice & tuna, an omellete. Puppy goes home (if being picked up) with a sample of the raw mince and dry foods used. I send a detailed diet sheet, explaining how I feed my dogs and why, what brand's I would recommend if they must feed commercial. If puppies are going interstate, then I send the diet sheet a few days before to give the owners time to read it. One girl in Rockhampton wondered why her pup had diarrhea cos' her vet told her to feed weetbix & milk! After blasting her, it took me about 1 minute on google to find a raw dog food supplier in her city & right near where she worked. She was thrilled. -
Oh no! So sorry for your loss Varicool. I so admired her (and your boy) - I so want a long-coat chi some day, and she was part of the reason. RIP sweet girl.

Moxidectin And Dogs Drinking Medicated Water
badboyz replied to NewHound's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Funny you should mention this. I kept this info recently from a dog list, and was considering asking if anyone else new about it's use. I think it was in relation to tick control. What do you use it for newhound? Just found this information on a WA government website re dog health in aboriginal communities..... MOXIDECTIN Administration: Moxidectin (Cydectin Pour-On for Cattle and Red Deer) is only to be administered topically (on the skin) at a dose rate of 500 micrograms/kg (1 ml per 10 kg live weight). Storage: The preparation is to be stored in a locked cupboard or locked refrigerator, away from children and unauthorised adults at a temperature below 30°C (Do not freeze). Skin and eye contact should be avoided at all times and if accidentally swallowed immediately contact the Poisons Information Centre on 131126 or the nearest medical centre for advice If accidental spilling on the skin occurs, the area should be washed with soap and water. Frequency of Administration: Moxidectin is not to be administered more than twice in a period of fourteen days. For dog health programs, the drug is recommended to be administered every three months. For the immediate cure of sarcoptic mange in individual dogs, the treatment may be given twice with an interval of fourteen days between each administration. Animals: Dogs to be treated must be six weeks old (weaned) or older. Pregnant or lactating bitches may be treated at the standard dose rates. Equipment: Automatic dispensing guns that are set to deliver a 1 ml dose may be used for dispensing moxidectin. If syringes are used to administer moxidectin on the skin they should initially be flushed with cooking oil. After dispensing moxidectin it is strongly recommended that people wash their hands with soap and water. Care is to be taken to avoid excessive contact with the Moxidectin solution, or inadvertent contamination of food stuffs. -
I use it daily in their dinner. Never seems to bother them at all, even with young pups. I found they would not drink their water with it in. What do I use it for - well everything really! I even have my 16yr old boy on it for his pimples. When he started using it you could see his face clearing within the first week. He still gets pimples, but not acne.

When Is The Best Time To Give Main Meal.
badboyz replied to moggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs, all adults, receive both breakfast (a raw bone of some sort - chicken frame, wing, turkey wing, kangaroo tail) and dinner (a little dry food and raw meat/vege mix). -
I would think an electric wire would work. Has cured our boy from climbing over the fence. Can be put on a single fence or right around the yard and very inexpensive. We set up ours for around $200 and that was for about an acre.

I have the panasonic FZ-18. I love it. It is very lightweight with a SLR look - without the bulk. It has an 18x zoom, 8mp. Has burst shooting which is great for kids and sport (and puppies). We have lots of fun with it. I took some great whale shots, which I posted here somewhere, while others on the boat where complaining about the whales being too far away. I was not confident enough to go SLR and did not want to spend over $1000 for a camera. Has LI battery - which I was not sure of when comparing cameras, but now I am very happy with. It lasts well and is worth it for the light weight. If I was to travel I would consider a second battery - but not needed for regular use.

So sorry for your loss. I think we all felt like we knew him, seeing him grow from a wee pup. He and Zephyr have been dol pin-up boys, both so beautiful. RIP Oakley.

I tend to agree with Dru. I understand your feelings and wanting to protest, but it will have little effect on their uncaring owners and the poor dogs must be desperate for a clip. It's not the dogs' fault after all. Charge them more for your trouble.

I would not buy my pet mince from the supermarket at all. Talk to a butcher or find a pet food manufacturer for better quality pet mince without the preservatives.

I have found a useful method, picked up at obedience. I hold food in my fist in front of puppy. She will mouth and sniff and bother at my hand. The moment she pulls away I give a "yes" to mark the good behaviour and then reward with the food. Repeat this until she has got the idea that if she waits she gets the food, if she bothers the hand she gets nothing. My pup very quickly worked out that in order to get what she wants she must sit and wait. Now if she, or any of my adult dogs, are jumping at me, which they tend to do as a group to get my attention, I just lift my head away and they will immediately sit in front of me. Then I will say "yes" and bend down to pat them. This also transfers to getting their dinner. I will just wait until they are sitting before giving them the food.

I feed mine pet mince from a pet food manufacturer (Big Dog Pet Foods). This is a complete diet including minced meat with bones, fruit and vegies, offal. No preservatives. I also feed a chicken frame, wing, necks, roo tail or other soft bone a day to each dog and a touch of dry food with their raw mince. My pups are also raised on this mince. Human grade mince is not a complete diet on its own.

Oh lucky you oceanaussie - I love Weis. Used to have one many years ago. Gorgeous dogs and very sensitive to their owners needs. When my toddler son would hold his lead he would walk so slowly and gently. He also learnt to pull me up our steep driveway when I was very pregnant. He was a bugger for hunting snakes though, and kept getting bitten. Sorry a bit off topic! I guess you will have to wait and see how they get on. Some dogs really take to each other, while others need their own space. Some will get on with one puppy and not another, depending on personalities. I would think you would have a fair idea in a week or two how they will respond to each other.

Where do you live Cloebear? Someone might be able to point you in the direction of a good raw food supplier. I can help if in Brisbane.

Funny, out my first ever litter of beagles a couple of girl pups had this problem. I have not experienced it since. I am pretty sure they grew out of it with maturity. Not a nice problem though. I think rewarding puppy for calm behavior and for sitting when people arrive may be the way to approach the problem.

My pups are weaned straight onto raw minced meat, carcasses, offal , vegie mix, from about 3.5 weeks. Used to use soaked puppy food, but have found this much better (and much cleaner). ETA. If I were you I would not mix it with the commercial food - giver him a chance to push it aside. I would give it straight as a separate meal - even if you have to feed by hand to start with. If he does not eat much - his problem. Hunger is a great motivator.

I was once told that bleach will very quickly cure hot spots - this from a lady with Newfoundlands. Anyone else heard of this - no stranger than listerine I guess.
-
I would highly suggest giving apple cider vinegar daily if you are not already doing so. All my dogs get a capful in their food. Lately my 16yr old son also has a capful in his juice in the morning and his skin has cleared up considerably.

Pedigree Dog Food - Is It Good For Them?
badboyz replied to Roxy_and_Missys_Mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I like Nutrience and feed it sometimes to my dogs & cat. Mostly they get raw though. -
Only dog roll I would recommend and use happily is Scotty's Premium dog rolls. They do have a website. Not sure if it is available all over though. Like Ecopet (have not tried this one) it has only natural ingredients with no nasties either!.

Just to confuse everyone further - there are some dieticians who advocate changing dry food brands with every bag purchased. The idea being the variety will prevent allergic reactions as the dog is not getting time to react to the same food, and also they will get different different benefits from each and every brand! I do change, maybe every 2nd bag, as I think there is some merit to this. But usually only between a couple of brands, and as said earlier, my dogs only get about 20% dry so it does not affect their diet overly anyway.

I always had problems with my beagles getting car sick and frothing at the mouth. Tried everything from rescue remedy, ginger travel sick tablets, gingernut cookies - nothing worked. Even with starvation before travel they would still sick up. No fun at all with showdogs having to clean them up and it does not put them in the happiest mood - beagles also being on relatively early. Now I have shar pei and it is not an issue! Sorry to offer no help - but it may be pretty common with these sorts of hounds.
