  1. Definately worth getting her tested for UTI, but my first thought was her age and marking. She is a teenager and may be marking everything as hers - including her bed. And she may well be coming in season soon, at this age. Males are not the only ones who mark territory.
  2. Why don't you give her the chopped chicken neck for breakfast, and the mince and dry for dinner. My chi pup gets a 1 chicken neck for breakfast, a very little bit of dry during the day (maybe a dozen pieces of small breed puppy) and minced meat & vegies (about a tablespoon) for dinner. He is 6mths old. I too prefer all my dogs to eat two smaller meals a day, rather than one whole lump for dinner.
  3. Usually it is just one chicken wing. Of course they vary in size from scrawny to quite meaty. Same goes for chicken necks - some are quite small while others are much thicker. I vary who gets the bigger ones and figure it will all work out in the end. My chi pup gets 1 chicken neck for breakfast. I would think 4/5 necks would be okay, depending on the size. I treat breakfast as more of a light meal and dinner as their main meal, but if they get a chicken frame which is quite big, then I will cut down on their dinner. When I used to have beagles, who tend to put on weight easily, when I wanted to trim one down a touch I would add 1 wheatbix to about 2/3 of it's usual meal for a week or two. Makes them still feel full without extra calories and fat.
  4. I feed my dogs (shar pei which are about 20kg) I raw bone in the morning (most commonly chicken wings but also frames/turkey neck or wing - usually something they can eat up fairly quickly so there are no arguments). At night they get about 2/3 cup of super premium dry food and about a cup of premaid mince meat/offal/fruit/vegies (I buy this from the company that makes the barf patties in my state - so basically the same, but cheaper and more in bulk). Sometimes they will get somethng different, like canned fish/natures gift canned food, an egg, especially if I forget to put the mince out or run out. This is very easy and quick to serve and they look fabulous. As I am busiest in the morning, that is when I just throw them a bone. It works out at about $10 a week per dog.
  5. Your dogs are just gorgeous. I usually separate baby puppies from older dogs when I am not home, just for safety. It will also teach him a little independence. If Friday is still only a pup herself (under a year) she could be a bit rough in her play. An adult dog usually has more control and is usually more gentle, and a pup the same age would be okay. But 2 pups different ages, not so safe. Look forward to seeing more pics as they grow.
  6. Here is the site: http://www.balgownievet.com.au/1_gen_derm_ear_clean.htm Yes you can buy malaseb at most vets.
  7. Oh you poor thing. Sorry for you loss of such a lovely little boy.
  8. That sounds terrifying dandydog - they sound worse than my beagles were! Must appreciate my quiet, calm shar pei puppies more!!!!
  9. I'd just like to add regarding your choice of diet - you must start your puppy off on whatever the breeder is using, then make changes gradually if you choose. Puppies often have upset tummies due to the stress of moving to a new home and to change the diet straight off will make this worse. Hopefully your breeder will supply you with full care instructions for your pup - registered breeders are required to at least supply a feeding guide. I usually supply enough food for about 2 days also. Raw diets or part raw are by far the best, and need not be difficult. With my dogs I just give them a chicken wing/turkey neck or similar for breakfast, and a combination of premium dry and raw mince and vegies (bought pre-prepared from a dog meat supplier) for their evening meal. Very simple and covers all the bases. If I run out or forget to defrost the meat, they can happily just eat the dry food or I may add some tinned fish/egg/leftovers.
  10. Buy a dryer! Most things are fine in a dryer and the items you don't want in there can hang on the clothes rack. No more problems. And you don't have to worry about it raining while your out.
  11. Personally I would avoid classes run by vet nurses and pet stores. Most canine council obedience clubs also run puppy preschools where there are qualified trainers. The pups learn basic obedience and have controlled socialization as well, and the owners learn some very helpful training tips.
  12. Any updates on this pup pikepooches?
  13. This is starting to sound very familiar. Does she by chance have an unusually large scull. Have a google of Hydrocephalus. I had a pup with that. I could not really pinpoint what was wrong with him. He was clumsy, not very socialble with the other pups, I also wondered if it was hips/spine, something physical. I also wondered if he was blind. He would often walk in circles also. He would panic if I picked him up in the air. He passed the vet check at 6 weeks. It did get more noticeable from 6 - 9 weeks. As soon as the vet saw him at 9wks he was 95% sure it was Hydro, but 100% sure it was neurological - and after going home and researching - I agreed with him. I chose to have him pts as he would not have had a normal life.
  14. I would recommend first that you get the vet to check her out first for mites and rule out fleas/yeast. He will likely recommend a shampoo also - get that. Then I would give her 2 weeks of no dry food - raw only - chicken wings/frames/necks, mince/fish and vegies (steamed). If all is going well, you could then start to introduce a super premium dry food, as suggested: Nutro, Royal Canin, Nutrience, Eagle Pack, Advance. Look for the one's for sensitive skin. Do not be put off by the price as they are worth it and if you buy the biggest bags, work out not much dearer to the cheap crap as the proportions are much lower - not to mention much cleaner coming out the other end. However keep in mind the more raw food the better, and the cheaper it will be to feed. Good luck.
  15. Another sad loss - so sorry Hannah.
  16. So sorry for the loss of Fergie Sammy! He seemed like such a cutie.
  17. Yes this is normal. From your siggy, did you feed your child? If so you will likely remember the feeling of the uterus contracting when you fed your bub in the first 6 weeks or so. Same thing happening to your bitch. And the feeding also does make her hot, as her body is working hard producing milk. Make sure she has plenty of access to water when the pups have finished. How old are the pups?
  18. My chi pup has one toy only that he loves to hump - funnily enough it is the toy he arrived with. He has not tried to hump anything else - just this toy. It's a little bunny that sings a silly easter song when you push the hand. We all crack up when he does it - reminds us of Meet the Fockers.
  19. If it was me, I would likely issue a big angry growl at her, like her mother would. When she backed off I would start walking briskly again with a happy "good girl". When a bitch or other adult corrects a pesky pup, that is what they do. Once the puppy stops all is forgiven and life goes on as usual. If puppy continues, the adult dog may grab the pup's cheek with another growl and that is about as far as it goes. To bend down, put your hands on her, grab her muzzle, roll her over - all takes a lot of time and effort - she has probably forgotten what she did wrong in the first place.
  20. I had the same problem with my chi pup. Would just sit and refuse to budge. With practice I got him moving just a few steps at a time. Then I took him to a dog show to socialize and get the feel of it, and he was so interested in all around that he took no notice of the lead at all. I still was not sure how he would go the following week in his first show, but he did quite well, winning his class, though distracted by the pups running behind him. I noticed every other chi pup behaving the same way. I'm sure he will be trotting along nicely in no time, as will your pup.

    Chihuahua Pups

Maybe send a pm (personal message) to Sanrita or Kingslychi. They are chi breeders. We also have a chi forum here under the breed forums - in General http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=105948. Poor pup, I hope he gets better soon. Will he eat raw mince? My chi pup loves to eat raw chicken necks (I bash them a little with a mallet). It is his favorite and he gets very excited when he hears the bashing now!
  22. No he's mine - all mine!!!!!!!!! I'm just hoping the judges fall in love with him too!
  23. Name: TAZER Sex: male Age: 4 months Colour: Sable Breed: long coat chihuahua Hobbies: playing with the cat, chewing everything (including the cat) Loves: annoying the shar pei pups that are 1/2 his age and twice his size Hates: Lead training Nothing like a puppy is there? They are all so devine!
  24. I have bought a small bottle of the EPO shampoo also for my shar pei girl. She has been itching madly since she has weaned her puppies so hoping to help her. I actually bought a small 3% and 1% for the other dogs, though they do not itch. I bought from Classic Show Supplies and had it the next day. She certainly looks less red after one wash. Will update how she goes with it. While washing her I rubbed a bit on my elbows (I have psoriasis) and I am sure it is less red today!
