  1. Only 3 sleeps to go . To whoever asked about more than 1 dog, as huski said, you can take as many as you want, but you can only work one at a time. I will be taking my 3.
  2. Hi Cinderella, Out of the clubs you have mentioned Brisbane (Oxley) would have the best agility club to go with obedience, followed by Redlands who are pretty good, but have run a bit hot and cold with Agility. The other option is ADCQ (Agility Dog Club of Queensland) on a Sunday afternoon, but that is at Tivoli (Ipswich) and would be about 45 mins from you. (I train there and live at 7 hills). We do skills for younger puppies (age appropriate to look after them as they grow). My little girl (now 9 months) has been there since she was 3 months old and loves it. It will give you the opportunity to build on the obedience skills you already have, but with a focus on moving into agility. With the other clubs you will more than likely be doing a lot more 'proper' obedience than you need if you aren't focussed on competing in CCD etc. (I also train there with my older 2 who compete.) We are also considering classes for younger dogs at the Brisbane Agility Dog Club (at Carina) on a Tuesday night later in the year, but that is a little way off just yet. For the moment the dogs have to be 12 months before we take them on. All of the clubs you have mentioned though are pretty good for obedience (I have trained at Southside and go to Redlands for Doggy Dancing.) Hope that helps. Tony Hey Tony, so Sharon did manage to get the DWD classes at Redlands up & running? Cool, looking forward to seeing you at our next DWD comp
  3. Thanks Mrs D - it's been a week now and so far I haven't managed to get through the day without a tear or two :D ......... but I'm looking forward to next weekend and getting Indi and my mind off Silas for a couple of days. I have to wait for OH to finish work on friday but now we have an added insentive to get there as soon as we can - what time did you say you're doing your routine ;) I think the cabaret starts at 7pm after dinner but of course I may not be first on, but you'll want to see all of the routines, most are much better than mine :D . I think you would have to be a hard hard person to not still be shedding a tear or 2, don't worry we all understand . Huski, I don't think you've seen this routine, so it will be a new one for you .
  4. You are all worried about your dogs & not having trained? At least you don't have to get up on Friday night & do a DWD routine with a dog that hasn't had any training at all since the beginning of October .I don't know what you are all complaning about . GSDog2, so sorry to hear about your boy .
  5. Dagboy & I will be there with our tribe, hoping Steve can help with Jarrah's "dislike" of other people. Cabaret is supposed to be at 7.30 after dinner which is good because I don't think we will be there much earlier than that anyway.
  6. Yep, our sheltie is like you describe, he's outside during the day & sleeps inside at night, he has heaps of things to do & is much much happier outside then being kept in the house!
  7. My sheltie & BC get on great together, unlike the other dynamics in the pack (GSD dislikes BC & Kelpie hates sheltie).
  8. MrsD, I would imagine donations to DQ would go to DQ members regardless of breeds owned???? I would imagine any assistance to DQ members would be irrespective of which dogs or breeds they owned, or whether they are purebred or not And I would consider that the members who own associate dogs would get the same assistance as others That's what I would have thought too Jed, I actually have alot more respect for DQ now it's in the hands of Barry Vickers & I hope that they raise enough money to help out any of their members that need help & assistance .
  9. MrsD, I would imagine donations to DQ would go to DQ members regardless of breeds owned???? I would hope so too, so not just for "purebred dogs" . Although of course I understand that the vast majority of DogsQueensland members that probably need the most assistance may be breeders etc, so probably in the end it would be mostly purebred dog owners.
  10. There are plenty of DogsQueensland members who own crossbred dogs too. Do we know where they stand?
  11. If anyone needs somewhere to go if you are evacuated or somewhere to take your dogs we have room here (Gumdale).
  12. Just updating, Dagboy is on his way home from work, so when he gets here he will be safe too.
  13. The kids & I are safe , I'm pretty sure Dagboy should be able to get home from where he is working, he's safe at work anyway (just doesn't have internet). ETA - location is Gumdale
  14. Ours dogs & chooks don't mix. Well we try not to let them mix because if they do it always ends up dogs 1 - chooks nil. Sadly we are down to 2 now (our old hen & our rooster), between the dogs & the fox we've lost all of the rest . With the dogs it is always the chooks coming into the houseyard where the dogs are that is the problem, if we let the dogs out they just ignore them.
  15. I used to train regardless of the weather - rain, hail or shine I would always be at the club for training. There was only 2 or 3 of us who would turn up if it was raining (& I mean POURING! ), my friend & I were 2 that always did, after all we used to trial over the border in NSW & if you drove all the way to Grafton or Coffs Harbour for a trial you sure as hell weren't going to withdraw because of a little bit of rain . Our chief instructor at the club used to be like an army seargant (sorry Lawrie ) & had us running up & down the paddock in the pouring rain dropping our dogs in the biggest puddles he could find :D . Now I'm an old woman , I wouldn't train in the rain, I'm too precious now. I trialled my GSD bitch when i was almost 7 months pregnant with the boys, being twins, at 7 months I was huge (bigger than a single baby at full term), I did a whole novice work out including (back then) fast pace in the heeling pattern both on & off lead, the judge was going to give me a trophy just for getting through my turn in the ring , I got a qualie & her novice title .
  16. Happy Birthday Daisy! Love that photo of her & Mish .
  17. Jarrah is a non wagger, he hardly ever wags his tail even when we come home after being out . Jonty Whsiper & Ebony are moderate waggers, not really waggy, but alot more than Jarrah.
  18. I talked to Ann at the trial & we got a cabin :D :D :D :D . huski just tell him you didn't recognise him without the spoons on his face - that's what darwinroyal told him when we saw her at the Ekka . ETA & I am :D :D now after the trial tonight cos Jarrah got his first Intermediate DWD Freestyle qualifier & won 1st place too .
  19. Oh I have only just realised this is on, I will talk to Ann this afternoon at our trial to book a place for me & hopefully one for Dagboy .
  20. That's exactly what I was going to say, I didn't know what clip it was but I guessed it was the goldie dressed up one which I absolutely loathe. It wouldn't get past the marshalling steward here because of the stupid ridiculous costume, but even if it did IMO it should be disqualified because of the amount of time it spends on it's back legs for a start. I do Dances with Dogs & that video of the goldie makes me cringe to think that that is what people think of when DWD is mentioned. Other than that I pretty much agree with everything Pax & huski said ;) .
  21. Exactly! It's not about loving a dog so much, as a special connection you have with them. If you have to say "I think" then you probably haven't felt it yet. Jarrah is my heart dog, I know that Dagboy is almost jealous sometimes of the connection that we have, but at the same time he loves it because it's a beautiful thing to see. I've owned lots of dogs & I've loved all of them (some more than others) & some have been totally devoted to me too, but with him, it's different. When it happens to you (if it does ever happen to you), you'll know.
  22. Just bumping this up for anyone who hasn't seen it, only 5 more sleeps til DWD at the Ekka  :p .
  23. We have camped with our 4 dogs heaps of times & have now upgraded to a caravan, the dogs are crated most of the day but get training & usually a huge big run on the beach (leash free areas) everyday. They love going away with us, you do get some places that will allow small dogs but not large ones & occasionally somewhere that will only allow a max of 1 or 2 dogs but all of the places we've been have been happy to have us as our dogs are so well behaved .
  24. It is biting her & her husband if they try to touch it! That's not just being scared of new surroundings IMO.
  25. That poor puppy, I agree probably the best thing for it is a trip to the vet. If she really resists that idea then get her to contact Steve as others have said, I'm sure he would go & see it & give an assessment, but the MOST important thing is that she keeps her child safe & she does NOT give the dog away to anyone else. I really can't believe that she is even considering giving it away to be honest .
