  1. Thanx Riles, we'll see how we go this Sunday at our next trial (A Course ONLY this time!).
  2. When I trained for open years ago I made a makeshift broad jump by getting 3 or 4 lengths of chamfer board (you know the one used on old houses) & propped them up using bricks. Thick part of the chamfer to the bottom, thin part to the top. So from side on they looked a bit like this /. Not particularly high brow, but it did the job for me .
  3. If I had got past the outrun I may have been able to tell you, but I didn't. Well i would disagree Robyn I think Jarrah and you did a great job on your first run in A Course my god you qualified the amount Of people that NQ on their first run is amazing from nerves alone. Apart from not keep moving on the Y & Z Chute I think you both worked very well. So stop being so hard on yourself I am very proud of you both. I looked at the video & I felt like slapping myself for all that mucking around I did at the Y & Z chute, I just sat there saying "What in hells name am I DOING?!!?!?" I could have walked right through both of those obstacles without even pausing - the sheep were in the right place from the moment we got to the obstacle. I think you need to get an electric collar for me & from now on when I muck around & do stupid things like that you need to ZAP me to get me to move! As for Jarrah I thought she was very generous to only take 1 point for each off contact, I would have thought it should be more. Do you know what deduction HA would be for on my score sheet? I've worked out everything else I think. I wouldn't say a nightmare he was just a little pre-occupied and he went out nice and wide just got distracted by the other sheep in the outlet pen. I look at it as a training exercise and we now know what we need to work on. So stop being so hard on your self. It wasn't the getting distracted that I am upset about, it's the fact that he then decided that he felt he could run after those sheep harrassing them & completely ignore me. I should have picked him up by the ear & dragged him out of there but I was so shocked I just let him get away with it.
  4. Thanx guys, yep we did get a qualifier even though I didnt think he'd deserved one, I came out of the ring convinced that we hadnt passed. I also made major major mistakes in my handling, I was so nervous I dont think I knew quite what I was doing. But she gave him a qualifier, as you can see by the scores not a high scoring trial at all. But that wasn't in any way a reflection on the standard of work of the other dogs & handler, she was just a hard judge (she told us that before we went in ). Our B Course today was an absolute nightmare best left undiscussed . On the other hand as you noticed Mooper, Tracey had a good weekend, congratulations to her & all the other winners & qualifiers . I didnt get scores & placings for todays B Course as I was hiding in the toilets after my run .

  6. This post reminds me of something I was thinking of yesterday when I read this thread - to what degree are shyness, fearfulness, submissivness, soft nature etc the same? Is a dog that has a soft nature automatically fearful? Or one that is submissive automatically shy? Are they basically the same thing or merely something that displays the same symptoms, but with different causes?
  7. Our dogs have got 2 of our chooks so far. I think, as has already been suggested, strengthening the chook run or using a remote trainer are probably the 2 best options. Unfortunately our incident was at a time when we couldnt be sure which particular dog it was, so we took the former option.
  8. Bump bump. Come along everyone & see me make a fool of myself in A & B course . ETA - there is only 1 more trial here in Qld this year, so if you want to get any of your test levels passed, this is one of the last opportunities so to do.
  9. ATM 1 obedience & 1 breed. ETA - ooops forgot frisbee club, so 2 training, 1 breed. ETA again - forgot Sheltie club, so 2 training, 2 breed.
  10. :) is that in anyway related to when they lick themsel...... hmmmmm nevermind the mirror sounds a much better idea!
  11. I'll tell you if I have any idea after the weekend .
  12. :D <--------- how I feel about this weekend A herding thread would be great, I think someone tried to start one once before but no-one posted in it - or when they did it got ignored, a bit of the "my type of herding is better than yours" syndrome I think :p . But hey, we could just talk to each other, who cares if no one else listens or contributes ;) .
  13. Yeh I can't wait!!!! We have so much to learn and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be sure to tell him Mrs D is waiting with baited breath when I see him he doesnt know me as MrsD, only as Robyn, just mention Jarrah the Superstar, Im just the hanger on groupie ;) . He knows us very well :D . I am actually part of a Yahoo group that has recently started of people who train using his method so I can talk to God whenever I want . I've got our first trial this weekend & I am so desperate to do well so I can tell him about it . I have entered both Started A & B Course - of course the fact that I've never even so much as walked a B Course let alone penned sheep in the middle of a paddock didnt put me off, they say stupid is as stupid does, don't they? ;) . Edited to add the bit about the pen.
  14. Ahhhhhh Riles you will have an absolute ball, I worship the ground he walks on, how sad am I? If you listen & do your homework, your dog & you will go ahead in leaps & bounds like we did - he's a great teacher :D & you'll learn heaps. You'll see him before I do - we have another clinic with Colin up here at the beginning of December, it will be our third clinic with him, each one has built on the previous one & I can't wait .
  15. Riles I presume this is related to Rosie's herding as you posted in the other thread? Does she know the "walk up/walk in" command? If not I'd be teaching her that & how to get sheep out of a corner rather than teaching her how to bark, but that's just me - maybe you want her to bark on command for other situations as well  .
  16. Ahh ok tadpole, how good is that, all we usually get up here is an encouragement award . Congrats to you & Cash for the awards & to everyone for the passes as I said before  . Didn't know that Colin (aka God - he's my idol in case you havent realised ) was judging down there, you could have said "Hi" to him from us . Wonder where jesomil is, hope we haven't scared her off .
  17. Hi superminty, how did you get high in PT? I thought it was just pass or fail? Congrats on everyone's passes for the day .
  18. Yeah I thought I might have confused you with my comment - sorry ;) . Let us know what you think when you get back - hope you enjoy yourself .
  19. Ummmm I think that means that there may not be any DOLers there tomorrow, Im sure there will be plenty of other triallers .
  20. Jesomil, I don't know that anyone is in the trial classes, I think most people are doing tests (from memory). Tadpole, the stop can be any position, it doesnt have to be one or another. Good luck on Sunday I have lost my herdig rulebook somewhere, I cant find it & I want to check up on some stuff for A course . Another week to wait for me but I am going to do some herding practice tomorrow afternoon so all is not bleak :D .
  21. Good luck to everyone who's entered . Indi, don't give up, practice at home making her drop from a distance, I throw food at a distance to try to stop them coming in too much (but of course this only really works when you aren't working sheep, cos when there are sheep around food means nothing ). Don't worry, perservere with it, she'll get it eventually . Jesomil, are you heading down to have a look at the trial? The more advanced classes are on first, so the earlier you can go the better really ;) .
  22. Thanx Tassie, I did wonder if it was still running, the GCCC page mustn't have been updated recently. But as you said Ann will still be the one to contact. I got an email from her this afternoon, but she is leaving for the US tomorrow for 4 weeks. Tony will still be able to give you details of the classes at their centre Kowai.
  23. Hmmmmmmm I just did a quick search for the border club & couldnt find it, maybe it's no longer in operation . Either way send Ann an email, she has lessons at her place as well, and she will know what to suggest . www.coolangattapetmotel.com ETA - OK, I did find the club, details HERE - Qld Border Dog Obedience Club
  24. Kowai, did your Dad find a club? There is a club at Tweed Heads called Qld Border Obedience Club if he still hasnt found anywhere, you could contact Anne & Tony Bulke as well as they are down that way & will know if there is anything closer (I doubt it, but you may as well check). Anne will have details of the Border club as she helps run it. Hope that helps .
  25. Get professional help!!!!! I would be getting a vet to check her out first of all, as to me it sounds like she could have a physical problem that is causing it. If that is all OK I would be getting a behaviourist to help as IMO that isnt the sort of problem that you can fix on your own. Good luck.
