Oh my goodness he is the cutest little thing!!! I want him!
-
Marley & Me was on TV not too long ago and Mars saw Marley and started wagging his tail at the TV. I've got a pic of him watching the 7pm project when he was younger. :D Will post it when I get home. He also gets very confused when OH is playing one of his games and it has a dog barking in it, he either runs and hides or tries to look for the dog which isn't there....

We're in Jerrabomberra at the moment and there are quite a few dog walkers out before the sun is up. We'll be in Franklin soon, so might bump into you sometime.. but the snooze button is my friend and I am prone to hitting it on numerous occasions. 15 hours in the car with 2 doggies!?! You insaaaane?!?! Well, atleast its not Ava & Mars.. you'd end up giggling the whole way watching them play in the back. :D
-
Oh no, poor Elborino.. very strange, but hope he's ok. ...that would be part of the reason we didn't go walking :D I can't stand the heat - I spend 6 months a year whinging to anyone who'll listen. Our local park is almost completely underwater. Roads blocked - firies and ambos out at 6am to rescue a submerged vehicle. Well done, Brisbane City Council - 8 months, couple of million dollars but yep, the creek won't flood to significant levels ever again and people will be much safer! I'd love to take James down to splash in the puddles but I know if he managed to get away he'd be in the creek in two seconds and I'd never see him again. Can't even walk him along the path - everything is submerged. Does anyone have any helpful dog drying tips? The poor thing is constantly banished to the deck to dry off as everytime he goes outside he returns completely drenched. Little sponge dog. Feel free to whinge to me I certainly don't blame you for not wanting to go outside for a walk. OH is from QLD so he's pretty much used to the heat, we have to visit his Mum in Monto for Christmas.. I don't think I will survive..........! I'm already dreading going for walks with my 2 during Canberra's summer. Wow, sounds VERY wet over your way!! Try and stay dry! Oh.. I envy you KumaAkita, mine don't like being blow-dryed with the hair dryer at home. I wonder if they might like the one at the car/dog wash places, hrm.... It would be so much easier if they were allowed outside after their bath, but OH doesn't allow it because he says they will just rub their faces in the dirt and get messy again.

Wet doggy smell! I wouldn't be able to survive going for a walk in QLD weather.. I thought it was stinking hot when I went up for a birthday in March a few years back, got off the plane and it as a punch in the face. I'm just weak when it comes to the heat... Shed that fur James, you'll feel sooooo much better!

Thanks for that info KTB, we'll be working on our heeling. We use the same marker word for both the kiddies, we also use clickers with them as well. Release words are the same as well, but if I'm only releasing one of them at a time I say their name first. Mars understands what I'm trying to do as he has grown a brain.. Pepper not so much yet, still a bit of brain growing to go.. The pups have to wait until I release them for brekie and dinner, one day I was thinking if they actually knew 'OK' was their release word so I yelled out words like "octopus, oh no, oops" etc etc, anything I could think of. They flinched when they heard the 'o' part, but never moved. Sometimes Pepper does think that 'Good girl' is sort of a release word, when they are waiting outside to be let in I'll ask her to sit and when I say good girl she stands again..

Oh poor Elbie, but that was just hilarious!! Poor KTB too..! I could barely read it I was laughing so hard!!
-
KumaAkita - Oooh, we will have to take a look at a Dyson with a motor head.. sounds like every dog owners dream. Last thing I want is to vacuum and there is still fur everywhere! Glad to hear that you've got a good trainer this session, hope Kuma sheds his winter coat soon.. wuffles - You'll have to try and take a vid of Ava making sucking noises, sounds cute! Gorgeous pics of your two as well. Mmmm.. sour cream..! KTB - Pepper's ears will most likely stay down, much to OH's delight. Her ears do go wonky sometimes but have never wanted to stick up. Mars's ears had decided they were going to be pointy when he was 3-4months old and have stayed that way since. We don't flea treat unless necessary, own personal choice though. We only apply Advantix when we go camping or to the coast. Pepper really dislikes being brushed, the same way that Elbie doesn't like getting Advantix on his skin so I know how you feel. She looks at me with those eyes and makes me feel like I've done somthing very very horrible to her, makes me feel like a bad Mum. Hrm.. I don't know if I would refer to Mars as cute and lovely.. you saw how horrible he was on Saturday! Little trouble maker.. Although he really did look rather cute sticking his head out the window, but then attempted to climb out! lilli_star - Ewwwwwwwwwwww dead mouse!! Glad that Ruby is OK though. We took the dogs camping a few month ago and they though cow poo was the best thing ever! I don't mind Kangaroo and Sheep poopies.. but cows just make big cow patties!! tigers12 - I think I will need to see a specialist, especially since its loud enough to disturb by late night TV watching. He has been snoring from a young age though, luckily Pepper doesn't snore.. or else we'd never get any sleep! Sorry to hear about the pups, more will come along though! Keep us updated! Here's a pic I took of the kids last night, Pepper looks huge in this pic but its the angle.. she's actually rather small, much smaller than when Mars was 6 months old. ETA: OH is really hoping that Pepper stays this size and puppy like.. hehe!
-
I was sitting there watching The Bourne Identity and thought it was OH snoring, but he was awake.. found the culprit.. FINALLY got a vid of him without waking him. Sorry about the static noise... don't know why the phone does that. And here is a vid I found off my phone from ages ago, Pepper getting Mars to play.. she likes to paw at him, not so much anymore though.

Thanks. He really does try very hard to please us and we can see all the effort he puts into things. From what I saw, Mars was very good with his sits and drops and he was in position. You guys didn't get reprimanded! As for heeling ... OH and I are new to dog training so we had no idea what heeling/heelwork was until recently. We didn't even know there was a difference between heeling and loose-lead walking until recently. :p Then for the formal stuff, there's a lot of stuff about posture, positioning, how your hands are, are you facing east, whether the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter Aligns with Mars ... :D We only found out the difference between formal recall and informal recall a couple of weeks ago. I don't think either OH or I are destined to go very far in the world of dog-training once we get Elbie to be a well-behaved and calm dog. Hehe, he was probably only in position because I still lure him... :p He used to be ok, but I never used the word 'heel' so he doesn't do it automatically when I say it. Mars really needs hand gestures for commands, if I just say the 'word' he'll look at me with a blank stare. I told OH about being told that 'ok' isn't the best word to use as a release word and he just shrugged at me. *sigh* I'm pretty sure that we won't be going far with our training.. I'm just happy if we get to silver. I don't know the difference between a formal recall and informal recall... *starts googling...*

Wow KTB thats fantastic!! Elbie is so adorably cute! Mars and I really have to work on heeling, he doesn't actually know what heel means.. :D
-
Mars does the same thing, I'm not sure why he does it either.. but it doesn't necessarily have to be a toy, it can be a piece of fluff or grass.. anything for him. If he doesn't have something in his mouth he tends to bite at the ball and run around with it instead of nudging it with his nose or dribbling it between his paws. Take a look on my FB page. :D (I don't have it handy on this laptop to upload.. will do it soon.) Oooooh everyone seems to have a Dyson, I want one so I will know of this Dyson doggy mixed up love!

YAAAAAAAAAY!!!

I was going to ask the same thing Fostering maybe..??

Best buddies reunited.

Road Trip!!! Hehehe..! Hooray for your essay being finished! Bunny photo was hilarious!! Max#1 - So sorry to hear of you and your Mum's loss of dear Puppy. He's running free now and licking all the legs and feet he can get to. I have many doggy friends that have crossed the rainbow bridge in the past few years, so Puppy will definitely have plenty of friends to play with and keep company.

Oh... :D I can't see the pics of the birthday cake.. lousy work blocking particular sites!! KumaAkita - Yaaaaay! You'll have to let me and kiddies know what Kuma likes so we can go birthday shopping.

I did read up about Shiba Inu's later on and was like.. woah.. totally different to what I expected, if I didn't live in a matchbox apartment in Japan I probably would have ended up with one. But now I don't think I would get one.. even though they are gorgeous!!! Oh yes, we love Mars's ears.. they haven't changed since they went up, but it was so exciting when they were changing constantly. Love the vid of Elbie on the deck, tumbleweed fluff!! I'd be too worried to film our dogs.. but I think its a must at some stage. Would be interesting to see what they get up to though. Hehe.. don't worry, I thought that BCs only came in chocolate and B&W only. It wasn't until I was looking for BC breeders and reading up about BCs that I found out they came in so many other colours. My sister keeps her dogs inside, but they are like 5 years old now.. they still manage to find things from time to time to pull off some of the shelves. I think the main reason she keeps them inside now is because Orson likes to chase the birdies and bark and bark and bark. But its more like constant barking throughout the day instead of just 10mins here and there. Goooood Morning! I'm pretty lazy with training my dog, we're actually going back to Bronze class tonight after a session's break. We're also going to be doing extra classes on Saturday too, although I think that Pepper may be the one that needs more of the training.. she's rather broken... don't think I have spent nearly enough time with her than with Mars. Naughty Clastic!! Oooh you want a Shiba too? We could go three ways now! Maybe it wouldn't be as bad if we each had a bit of time with our shared Shiba. Photos of Kuma, yay!! I gave Mars & Pepper a bone last night to much on.. and ofcourse Mars has stinky mushie poopies now.. His gut really isn't that great.. Pick me pick me, can we come celebrate your boy's birthday? ETA: I agree with KTB, no ones dog is perfect. I love my dogs to bits and they both have a few undesirables in other peoples eyes but it doesn't mean they are broken. Even though I do joke and say they are, they're not broken in the way some people seem to think.

I know what you mean.. I was typing a post last night and the web browser did a huge fail.. lost everything I had typed! I take quite a while to post as well, always previewing and making sure it all makes sense.. it always sounds fine in my head but sometimes my brain thinks one thing and my fingers type another! But hooray you have come out from the shadows! Asti is gorgeous, love her puppy pics before her ears stood up and the one of her taking a bath!! Pups are always so cute when they haven't grown into their bat ears yet.

SammieS we see you down there!!
-
;) It has that effect on some people! I do have a friend who has 10 rescue moggies.. so that makes me feel a bit better! I think my OH would kill me if we had any kitties.. he's not really a cat person and has said no........ I'm sure I can convince him though. Hehehe...! KTB, maybe your OH can convince mine...?

Welcome to the thread Primedogs. Awwwww.. too cute! I'm a sucker for the red/tans!! Haha, I have 2 pups and I'm still clucky! Looks like everyone had a fun day at the beach! Love the pic of little G with her head stuck in the ice-cream tub!
-
Awwww too cute! I saw her on the Aussie thread and thought she was your new addition! I agree with amypie, it will be hard to give her back. LOL

Computers are so silly.. I typed out so much and then Firefox decided to crash.. all gone. So you get the quick short story now! Oh and welcome MavericksMission!! And SammieS you had better come out and play!! Loving everyones stories!! Mars's Story OH wanted a BC because when he was younger he grew up with one, I didn't have much of a preference but thought Shiba Inu's were adorable! (I blame living in Japan for that..) So it was decided that a BC our pup would be, I wanted a chocolate BC. Off I went hunting online for breeders, found a few that I liked and took note of when they had pups due. Silly me not actually e-mailing them and asking to be added to a waiting list! So after a few months of me checking breeders pages everyday I finally stumbled across this pic that was posted by one of the breeders. Not chocolate like I wanted but.. its so hard to resist those tubby little BC faces! Showed OH the pic and were um-ing about it all evening until finally we said 'lets just e-mail and ask..', so we sent off an e-mail enquiring about the pups available and if there might possibly be a female in that litter. OH wanted a girl, because he had heard that they had nicer temperaments and Missy his childhood dog was a girl. I'd grown up with both girls and boys and just took that comment as one of those 'myths' you hear, but to make OH happy.. a girl it was. Got an e-mail back while I was at work, they only had one pup left from that litter and it was a boy! She sent photos with her reply so I called OH straight away! I told OH that I got a reply and he was VERY excited, but as soon as I said "but they only have one pup left... and its a boy", his reply was "no". He really had his mind set out on getting a girl, but I forwarded him the photos anyway.. as you do. I was really suprised when I got this reply from him "ohhhhh he's soooo cute! what do you think???" Woo hoo! OH approves, its hard to resist puppy pics. Below are the pics we got sent. So after a bit of thinking that day, we decided to go ahead with said puppy, e-mailed the breeder back and she called to ask some questions then after that the pup was all ours! I swear OH was more excited than I was, LOL. He'd already started thinking of a name for our little man and decided that he looks like a Mars Bar and thats how he got his name Mars. We only had one problem though.. we were living at my Mum's place while waiting for our house to be built.. how to tell her the wonderful news?! I really should have asked her first before we made the decision, but thought that Mars would have other doggies to keep him company during the day instead of being all alone at home, OH kept pestering me to tell her but I really thought it would be best just to um.. suprise her. The day came for us to pick him up, we got home with Mars and Mum wasn't home yet.. as soon as she got home we took her to the backyard and showed her the little ball of fluff that was Mars. OH was waiting for her to go crazy since I didn't tell her, but Mum was great about it. As you can tell I was such a kid about it.. bring the pup home first then suffer the consequences.. I did ask when we got little Pepper though! So in the end we 1) Didn't end up with a girl which OH had hoped for and 2) I didn't get the chocolate colour which I was after. We planned for so long and both had our minds set on what we wanted, and got something different but we wouldn't want our Mars Bar any other way. Just some pics of Mars growing up and his ears having fun First pic is of him on the car trip home (8 weeks), 2nd pic is when we went camping with him for Easter when he was 3 months old (his ears are starting to do their own thing), 3rd pic is at 4 months old (starting to get pointy ears) and last pic is of him at 9 months old (taken last weekend). So much for the short version.. stay stuned for the Pepper story.. hopefully won't be as long! Sorry guys!

Thanks wuffles for posting, I am absolutely knackered my brain just isn't working..! Ran out of room for vids and pics today, but have found my 2nd camera and have cleared existing pics from the 1st sd card so will be able to take PLENTY of pics tomorrow! Got a few pics today anyway, but would be nice to get a few more and some of the pups frolicking in the paddock. And yes.. even though wuffles has said it already I'm going to say it again.. our pups are angels!
