You should be able to pick up a re-home Dobe for less than that.

I'd lovvvvve a peke! no one else I speak to likes them!! I love their attitude and spunk!!! When I was a kid, a friend of the family had Pekes. They were nice enough, but gees they used to snort and sneeze and spray all over you. Specially when you first got in the door and had to greet all five of them! It's a Ridgie ;) Hmmm I need to wake up with some decent handling skills and a million dollars (not likely ) Kei needs to wake up with some extra drive and focus (possible).. Ridgies don't shed? I do like them. Nice dogs. Which one do you want? I'll take #2 Can I have #3, please?

Geese?? I need next week's winning lotto numbers. And more spare time. So true.

MY GSP but you can't have him. Ohhhh...GSP's will guard? I would not take yours. I'm sure I could find my own. You could try, but I bet you won't find one like MINE He is my third and I've never know a GSP pup who has no desire to go for a walk when he can sleep on someone's lap, bed, couch etc etc etc. I actually think he is broken.....but I don't want him fixed! Sometimes the broken ones are the best.

No problem. She spends the whole day, every so often, whining and doing her "attention yap" so we will either let her in the door - or out of the door. She can open the sliding screen door and come in any time she wants - but DH taught her she can't do it without permission. So she doesn't. He is now regretting that. I tired her out this morning before we went out etc. I just think she is a bit uncomfortable (she is being treated for arthritis) and a bit anxious. As for the noise - well, all I have to do is go to the freezer. She hates the noise when we play around wiht the frozen stuff. She jumps up off her mat. vacates the room and watches from down the hall until we have finished, then comes back.. The fact her food is part of it seems to have little impact. Thanks for the offer, Tilly. I will try the local Healthy Life store and see how it goes. If there is a problem, I will get back to you. I have only tried the produce store and the on-line store - BOTH were out of stock, even tho they normally carry it. The on-line store said the suppliers were out and they are looking at a TWO MONTH wait. Not bad for a waste product. hey? Good luck with your trial.

I think I pay $79 for 500gm, but for the purposes of a trial you can buy a 50gm sachet for $9-$10 which is enough for a couple of weeks (1 tsp is about 3gm). $92+ for 500g. I ordered 3x50g @ $8.50ea. It was actually cheaper to buy the sachets. Thanks for that. I didn't realise they would go that far. So it's all good.

Thanks Aidan. I have ordered some G as G and still have to souce some Brewer'st. Everyone seems to be out of stock of the stuff. So I'll try the human health food store next time I'm at the shops. Kaisie is getting older and is gettting quite whingy/unsettled and more sensitve to noise than she used to be,. So I'm hoping it helps her. She is basically quite calm when with me, but i really can't have a dobe on my lap all the time. ;)

I just found out how much Good as Gold costs.

Kirty - check out this thread.... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=200114 Specifically, look at the recipe in Aidan's posts.

Send me her prefix or pedigree and Ill tell you more. Thank you, Mon. I'm pretty sure, from the info above, that she is a "showy". But I will PM her details. She is de-sexed, so, no, it's only for curiosity, not becasue I'm planning anything.

So glad things are looking up for you Jed.

It's ok. I went through and registered and it took the order and gave the bank account etc for direct credit. It is one of the options. I won't be able to do it for a couple of days anyway.
-
With the exception of champions (e.g obedience, field, retrieving etc) who are so good they get to put their working title at the front. Then it will say O.Ch, T. Ch, FT.Ch etc Ah..ok. Thnak you. For a "show" dog she'a a bloody good worker.
-
Mine is 30.5kg today. I'm adding a bit of food because I think 31kg is about right for her. She has papers but I have NO IDEA whether or not she is fron "show" or "working" lines. And I don't actually care either way. But now I'm curious. How does one know which is which? Working line Dobes - as such- tend to have lots of Shutzhund titles behind them. As a general rule, the show lines not so much, although there are some very successful DObes with plenty of working titles behind them. I was told my Dobe wouldn't guard as she was from show lines and they are wooses and back of at the first sign of someone serious. They didn't repeat the remark after trying to sneak up on my tent at around midnight rather a bit tipsy! So on the papers, it just says "AM.CH" or "AUST. GRAND CH" etc but doesn't say what sort of champion, does it? Well, I know mine used to herd cattle. And she sure would bring in the horse for me if I wanted. By the same token, she will guard. I think there are some who mistake the Dobe intelligence for "wuss". That us because they often will not take on trouble head on. The times I have seen mine in action, they have gone around and used the herding thing to distract and worry the "threat". I like the logic. He who fights and runs away gets to fight another day. They might retreat, but they keep coming back for another go. On one occasion, mine did attack a threatening dog. Only the once, tho. She didn't keep at it after the "threat" retreated.

My order is in. Will be using direct depost in the next few days.

I suspect it's a bit like raising skin kids. Number one is a huge challenge. You make mistakes along the way, but somehow you muddle through. Then, just as you think you have it all worked out, number two comes along. With a totally different set of rules! And you start from scratch all over again. I see the rescue idea as having two advantages. Firstly, you have given a dog a home that it would otherwise not have. That in itself says you have a success. Secondly, you see what you get. A mature dog, temperament tested, you know if it "works" with your present dog or not, and if not, you can arrange to swap for another etc to get the right mix. Also a plus. Use that to build your confidence, then maybe you will be ready to go the puppy path next time.
-
I agree. Use common sense, take on a rescue or re-home job and look at it as a learning experience. Every dog is different. And NONE is perfect - just as we humans are not perfect. I'm far from the perfect dog owner - but who's to say how that is assessed? Ours has a home she would otherwise not have. Her "problems" have not totally gone, but are a million miles better than when she came here. She is part of the family, is fed, cared for and given vet care. Not a huge victory really, but an achievement for me. And we have a bond - that is important and what it's all about for me. If I was out to make an agilty champion, I could say we are an abysmal failure. I know this as we did try. But it was not the main aim of the game. As my companion and protector, she's a gem. You can only define "success" but your own measure. Make your measure achievable and you will be fine.

My black dog has reflective green discs on her collar, :D So I don't fall over her at night. :D

It was supposed to end ages ago. I was annoyed because they sent me the discount offer the day after I had paid for an order. Like two days to go. Like I needed any more that soon? And today I see they still have a discount going. Mehhh..... I'm going to order somewhere else next time. ps..Did you try their on-line chat option to ask? It's cool.

The gist of it seems to be whether or not the breeder breeds for the sole purpose of profit making. If a registered breeder, breeds "ethically" with all the relevant tests, vet treatment etc and makes a profit, that is one thing. If a breeder sets out solely to make a profit, does no testing, health checks, gets no vet attention (as needed) and still makes a loss (which is quite possible) that breeder is still a "farmer" as profit is the primary motivation. So the "profit test" does not actually stand as a valid test in itself. If it is used as a measure (test) of the breeders motivation to breed, it has potential as one measure that could be used in a list of quaifying "tests".
