Just use a container with a lid for defrosting. We just use freezer bags. I put a week of doggy dinners in freezer bags inside each plastic shopping bag and in the freezer. Then defrost individually in a plastic container in the fridge. I don't bother with putting the top on it, but I could if my DH was being a princess about he blood leaking out into the container. Thankfully, has has not thought about that one.

We had a dog like that. I just wormed her really well and looked at it as inbuilt worm control.

Mine gets chicken necks, wings, frames, lamb ribs. Occasional turkey necks and roo tails. Some meaty bones every day. My vet comments on how good her teeth are - every time she looks at them! Never had to get any work done on her teeth. And she's never tried to sell us greenies.

What Do You Use To Walk Your Dog And Why?
noisymina replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I use a check chain on Kaisie, but she is seldon on lead at all. When she came here, she had learned how to back out of ANYTHING. Flat collar & harness, so not much choice really. She aslo pulled like a trojan. So we used a mixture of check chain and flat collar and now, joy of joys, she will walk loose lead MOST of the time. I've always had check chains for the Dobes - since I'm about 50ks and they are 30+ and I need to have some advantage IF they decide to go feral for some reason. Kaise is the onlt one that ever pulled and she had learned that before we got her. I've only ever seen one retractable lead - on a SWF. It did not seem a good idea to me at the time and I've never looked more closely at them. Hardly Dobe material, IMHO I mean, Kaisie did a take-off once and I learned then that a shorter leather lead was a good idea. I still have the one a nice DOLer made for us. -
Dogs Who Are Cat Chasers And Biters
noisymina replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
I must admit, the first thought I had was........find a cat to slap him around a bit. Even Kaisie, who now gets on with cats we have, will chase intruders off. But she will chase any intruder - dog, cat or human. She got off to a very bad start here by treeing our cat first thing. :p But it came good in the end. Long story. ;) She's not stoopid. she realised she got locked in the garage straight after so we could get cat down. And even now, she checks that the other door is open in the garage before she goes in. Long memory! -
;) I'm sure DH will be doing pics very soon. No sign of the flu now. She's a very pretty kitten. And DH says she has an awesome personality.
-
I'm sure Kaisie will be fine. They did a brief meet when DH got her out of the car and Kaisie was all waggy and friendly and the cat did not turn a hair at the sight of the dog. In fact, it looked like she would have rubbed up against the dog if she'd not been in a cage.

Thanks. I think. ;)
-
And Kaisie is keen to play. BUT kitten came from a shelter (yeh, he did the rescue thing and it is already desexed etc) and the paperwork he brought home declares it has had cat flu. Lord knows what else. We are supposed to keep her isolated for 10 days. I don't know how long I can stand this whining from Kaisie, tho. ;) Any advice would be welcome, please?

Dogs That Sleep In The House - Question On Times
noisymina replied to JulesP's topic in General Dog Discussion
You want to know how long a dog can hold out? Just let them know you are after a urine sample! Mine can go from 10pm at night until 4pm the next day. Stubborn is the word! -
Got to remember the small yard.
-
Do you get a separate one for the cats, or does the one do both? If only the one, which size is best?
-
 Yeh - well the name ws the problem. obviously. ;)
-
Well.......I'll know what lines to avoid when I'm looking for my next Dobe.

New Puppy With Young Child? Am I Asking For Trouble?
noisymina replied to vernie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I do think the trick is to have the right facilities. So that bub and pup can be kept separate and supervised when together. Baby gates and things. So you're are not always on the look out. If well managed, it could be fun. -
Bitches, Rural Properties And Getting Out
noisymina replied to JulesP's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have not been zapped very often. DH installed some switch thingys so It is easy to isolate various parts when we want to do stuff. It does, however, put me in a very bad mood when I do get zapped. Partly becasue I am cranky with myself. I think it is silly too. What's a zap or two compared to a dog getting run over or causing an MVA etc etc? Better to keep them in, IMHO. It also keeps feral dogs OUT and away from ours. -
Mo Just Had A Bit Of Bone Stuck In His Mouth!
noisymina replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
In 30 years of dog owning. I think only one bone removal. Not bad. A few macca shells got levered off ...with the first thing I could grab which was, inevitably, a kitchen knife. No worries, the doggies always knew I was helping them and would sit still and let me do it. Certainly helps if the dog trusts you. -
Bitches, Rural Properties And Getting Out

Even at full power, there is no way our fence would knock me to the ground. It is a normal electric fence. If the dog is staying for repeated zaps, then the fence is not strong enough. Increase the voltage aand the dog WILL respect it. I have seen a dog stay for repeated zaps. One. At the low setting. All the rest certainly do go into flight - over the hill and far away. It was only when we put the fence in that we realised how many feral dogs were accessing our property of a night. They don't usually come back for a second zap. It was all quiet after the first few nights. I wonder if the RCPCA woudl be interested in the fact that we installed it on the recommendation of our vet? That that dog would have ended up under a vehicle or similar if we had not contained her? I still say a zap is the lesser of many evils that she could have encountered off the property. And a small price to pay for the huge grassed, shaded area she had to run and play. -
OMG - that migth be why my girl got spooky the other night! I'll have to be careful I don't try to cover her in the dark again.

Grapes/Sultanas Apple cores (seeds)

My dog is on Sasha's Blend. Maybe that would be an option for some of you to consider? (It is far cheaper from Vet-N-Pet than it is from the vet, of course).....

We have 20+ Macadamia trees here. Our Wei used to pick up the nuts, de-husk them, crack them with her teeth and enjoy. Seeing it takes so much effort to actually get to them, I guess she didn't get very many and certainly not morfe than 2 or 3 at a time. She lived until she was about 16 wthout a glitch. Never did her any harm. Except the need to occasionally lever a shell off one of her teeth for her. No doubt a whole handful at once could cause a problem, but just a few trees in the yard are not a reson to get too worried. We only ever had that one dog that worked out how to access them. Kaisie will "steal" them when the guys are cracking them if she can, but they are not about to let her do that. Too much effort to just to let the dog have them.
