My first dog was a Miniature Poodle. She was the right dog for me at that time. Very loyal and intelligent. When we moved here, we moved into Dobes. Both our female Dobes have been real gems. Although Kaisie was quite the idiot when she arived, we managed to calm her and she has become so totally laid back it's not funny - for a Dobe, that is. The male one we had was odd in the head and had "wheels disese", so I'm biased towards the females. And if we got another, I'd be looking at one from her breeding background. I wouldn't get a Dobe if I didn't have the space for them to run like we have here. I'm sure they would (and do) go crazy without room to run. They are lovely dogs. I just love to watch them run. The Weimaraner we had was a nice dog - but not right for us. She watched the burglars come in and she watched the burglars go out - several times. So yeh, back to Dobes.

What Do People Feed Their Dogs?
noisymina replied to claireybell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think you may be surprisd. It doesn't tkae much Barf to put weight on some dogs. If you can move her onto the Lamb, that will fill her out. I'd love to try the lamb but whenever either of my dogs have anything lamb they do the most horrible stinky farts! Oh - ok. It may not be the best for them. I've been adding a tablspoon of Yoghurt to my dogs breakky most mornings. Might be woth a try. Umm...smaller dog .....maybe a dessertspoon? -

Some Questions About Dog Ownership
noisymina replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Aussielover My dog does NOT need to be "walked" at all. She has five acres to zoomies on whenever we are out there - and when we are not. She is predominently an outside dog. What sort of deterrant is she if she is locked inside? Defeats her purpose. Good on you for asking. I cannot complete your survey because there are no options to fit the situation here. Hopefully you will realise there are lots of different roles played by dogs, different reasons people own them and the way the dogs "needs" are met, and dogs that have different needs to be met!. These all can be quite different to what you yourself have experienced. If I answered your survey and said my dog was outside all the time (whcih she is not, but that would be the closest match) and that I never walked her, I would, according to your judgement, be a very bad owner. Which, of cousre. I am not. -
Kaisie was OK with storms when we first got her. Some time later - maye 18months or so - she decided she would be stoopid and go running around out in them amd carry on. IF we are home, we let her in - well, she's usually in with us anyway. She starts shaking and running around. She'd climb into my lap if I let her! These days I take her into the "office", a room with minimal windows, close the blinds, turn on the lights and make her stay on her mat in there. I don't always stay with her, but she seems to feel safer that way and will stay there for a bit without me now. Until the storm has passed.

If you want to economise, borrow from the Library. Read though and bookmark any information you want for future reference and photocopy that part. You can leagally copy as long as it's no more than 10% of the book, I think from memory. IF you particualrly like one of them, then you have the option of buying it later.

Dogs Interpreting Visual Representations
noisymina replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
My son has, on occasions, has brought some corflutes over here. They are those political signs they put up all over the place during elections with the pollies photos on them. A bit larger than life size. Our Dobe goes absolutely crazy at them - hackles up and all. If we have any in the house, I have to turm them around so she doesn't keep barking at them. We'd then turn one around at random intervals to see her reaction - just for fun. -
You can try our dams. Bit murky (once you stir up the mud) and the only teeth would be on the eels in there.

Yeh - I soon reralised the problem and put sticks in so they could get out - and tried to keep the containers as full as possible. Not a problem now - don't have horse any more.

What Do People Feed Their Dogs?
noisymina replied to claireybell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The Poodle I has was always super thin. I used to put it down to the fact she had been neglected earlier in life. She lived a healthy, active and VERY long life in spite of her lack of appetite. . -
Our Noisy Miners have this habit. I suspect the dog grabs them when they dive-bomb the cat. They like drowning in horse troughs, too. (We have the native ones) Then there are the Rainbow Lorikeets (and more Noisy Miners) that think they can fly through our windows. If the dog and cat are inside, they usually come to and fly off. Some times the dog and/or cat are outside and I am not here - or I an too slow to get out there and save them.

But they are in date for how many there are per packet - it will only be out of date because the OP ordered two packets to follow on from each other - it isn't up to the supplier to know if the purchaser is buying more than what they immediately need and want to stock up Personally I wouldn't use them but then I am a real stickler for use by dates on ANYTHING! Maybe you could sell the extra ones on here or donate to a shleter or something BEFORE they are close to expiry ;) I have chewable heartworm tabs in my fridge EXP Mar 11. They have been there nearly 12 months as it is. And I will have used them by then, and I'm doing it 6 weekly. The supplier may or may not have considered that the tablets were for the one dog over 12 months or two dogs over six months. Clearly my supplier DOES supply fresher meds - whether they stopped and worked it out - or just supply fresher as a matter of course, I don't know. But I'm one satisfied cutomer. ;) So, since they do supply that way, it's my expectation they thye will continue to do that. I would, therefore, complain if they supplied me the way the OP has been supplied.
-
If it's only the three months and you can keep them in the fridge in the meantime, I reckon you'd be ok. BUT the supplier should be keeping a better track of the use by dates. Maybe a compliant will score you some satifaction.

Should I Be Worried Hes Not Eating A Lot
noisymina replied to angelnkids's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd say he likes the advance puppy plus chicken n rice, and is not hungry enough to tackle too many of the biscuits - which may well be second best choice. When my dog starts to knock back her ration of dry, I know she's had enough and I cut back a little on the feed I give her. If I weigh her at that point, she is usually a bit heavier than usual. She has a natural weight control thing which is really good as she has never been too far overweight. If you can weigh the pup and keep track of the weight, I think that would be a good thing. -
Wherever mosquitoes survive, heartworm is not far away. If you have no mosquitoes, you are fine.

Dry Food That Does Not Contain Wheat, Corn Or Soy?
noisymina replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Seems like it would be worth it. Certainly not normal for a dog to be so touchy with his food. I'm wondering if you have tried yoghurt/probiotics at all with him? -
Natural Balance - Opinions Please
noisymina replied to Remarkabull's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Could someone give me the link that lists those ingredients for "Natural Balance", please? The site I get seems to have a different list, so I am confused. :D ooops... OK, IT's the Dick Van Patten one. I tried one of those a while ago. It seemed to have alot of garlic in it at that time. Not very impressed. -
We will be doing an Ikea meet when the next Ikea sale is on.............whenever that is. .......... Just for Bertie. Yes.....GM It's a bit of a detour for us to meet up on the way.

Ummm.......I'd like to go. Need a travel buddy from my area tho - mostly for company/navigation help. Anyone offereing?

I did have the "privilege" of "educating" some feral kids while I was waiting outside the vet surgery last week. Does that count? I think one out of the three DID actually listen.
-
You just have to find them! :D I was in schock a little while ago. Got a phone call from the Vets. I think it was one of the vet nurses. Asking how Kaisie was going. After I got over the shock, we did have a good chat and the lady was very helpful with the medication strategy. I ended up having to apologise for my initial shocked reaction. So yeh.....for about the tenth time here, I have to say I our (now not so) new vet!

Yes, the issue always confuses me too. Perhaps it is related to the type of baceria that develops on certain products and meats?? I mean, a dog can bury a meaty bone and then dig it up some time later and eat it without ill effect it seems. :D For sure. I've seen them ingest some pretty disgusting stuff ............................and survive. Ok, I won't bother cooking the eggs.
-
If you Google salmonella + eggs, you will get the story. It's only a chance thing, but it seems it does happen. Mine has had many eggs without a problem. She gets a max of two in any week, sometimes none at all. I am thinking about cooking them now, tho. .
