  5. I tried saying 'no' to those photos... it just came out 'nnnnnoawwww!'
  6. Oh ok then :D With our darling Ruby (RIP) And with our gorgeous little girl, Nissa (and MrLC )
  7. Dusty those are some lovely photos, I don't think I've seen the ones of Senna as a puppy! Flutey's 'normous puppy ears always make me giggle. And Lunar's story brings a lump to my throat every time I think about it. She is such a gentle little soul, she gives the best cuddles I posted this last August about how Tommy came into our lives. What I didn't say then, was that we spent the first month or two dreading that we would not be able to keep him. He showed a little bit of interest in our cats - not hugely so, but we didn't want to take any chances. We got as far as taking him to a potential adopter's house to meet her and check her yard, thinking that he just wasn't cat safe. I was desperately sad thinking we would have to say goodbye to him... I didn't cry at the adopter's house, but they were brimming. I think we had just parked the car at home when MrLC and I looked at each other and both said... "I don't want him to go." We were terribly careful with him around the cats - probably more than necessary - for a long time, but we didn't want to take any chances. He quickly learned that the cats were not to be played with, and today we are able to leave him at home, inside, with the cats while we are at work. Which is what he prefers, even though he now has 2 acres of yard to play in! I can't imagine life without him now, he means the world to me. I know when he's really happy, because he'll be carrying one of my shoes! He doesn't chew them, he just carries them around and puts them on his favourite chair. He is very good at telling me what he wants and how he's feeling, and he always knows when I've had a bad day and need a greyhound snuggle. I lubs him.
  8. I respect people's decision to sedate or not to sedate. Just want to get that out of the way before I ask a question. When I was a kid, we moved half way across the state. The vet gave us sedatives for our cat so that he wouldn't freak out about travelling. I guess it worked... he was so terrified about losing control of his own body that it took a long time for him to even realise that we were in the car. I wonder if this could be why some animals fight sedation? The feeling of 'control' slipping away is frightening for them, as they don't know what is going on? I guess there's no real answer to that question without anthropomorphising even further.
  9. Not everyone is blessed with the time to make such investigations. Dust Angel gave some examples of instances she's had to decide to euthanase in emergency situations. I have, unfortunately, gone through similar things, with a dog and two cats (all separate occasions). In an emergency, you just don't spend time ringing around getting quotes and deciding between burial and cremation. You trust your vet - you really have little other choice in an emergency. I agree that when your pet is old and you've watched him/her decline in health over a period of time, it is a good idea to do your homework and prepare yourself practically and emotionally for the inevitable. But not everyone is lucky enough to have that preparation time. If you are going to use words like 'irresponsible', please try to have some consideration and respect for those of us who have had to make on-the-spot decisions to prevent our beloved animals suffering.
  10. Thanks everyone, I'll pass on the recommendations to her
  11. I've had a long and annoying few weeks, and for just one minute there I felt quite flattered that someone had been thinking of me... thanks for injecting a healthy dose of reality there Bull Terr(ific) I don't know why colliehound posted here - perhaps to be sure I would see it? I'm not sure why you have a problem with this thread specifically, as there are no less than 8 other threads on the first page of General which *could* be in other parts of DOL. Assumedly they have been posted here so that people who don't frequent other subfora still see them. If it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure colliehound wants to contact me about the yarn I'm spinning for her out of her dog's fur, so it is a little bit General Dog related. But, of course, feel free to report or simply not read 'crap' in whatever forum it manifests itself.
  12. Love it Sorry guys, I've been pretty busy and cleaning out the inbox kept being pushed down in my priorities
  13. Sorry! I've just made some room in my inbox. I was just thinking about you the other day - I've got a free weekend coming up ( ) and was hoping to do some collie coat spinning
  14. A woman at work is trying to find a groomer for her little poodle x puppy, Northside if at all possible. She says she has tried a few different places and they are all fully booked (not accepting new clients?). She can get a mobile groomer out to wash him, but I'm guessing he'll need to be clipped too and the mobile person only washes. Any recommendations I can pass on?

    Gherkin

I'm so sorry for your loss RIP Gherkin
  16. The ABC has a news report which is a little lighter on the dramatics, but still describes a very serious attack. And yes, it would be very interesting to know the circumstances of the attack. What happened to set the dog off? Regardless, I hope the poor woman recovers well, mentally and physically. Must have been terrifying.
  17. I carded some more Jedi fur yesterday. I've washed about a quarter of what you sent me and I'm only about half way through what I've washed. I was thinking to myself, it's lucky he's got lovely fur because HOLY CRAP he must shed like anything! eta: Huski, I adore that video! It's so very well done
