hard to ignore them if they're lying right across the doorway. -
Survey For Dangerous Dog Legislation On Vic Dpi

Amika - my point of view, for what it's worth is that this is open to abuse (eg neighbours who don't like your dog saying they were bitten by it) and over-burdens the medical fraternity if not done properly. If it was to work at all at minimum there would need to be strict and clear guidelines about what is required to be reported (eg NOT some accidental bite), what information is to be included (ef a bite in self-defence) and also in what happens to the information provided to the authorities. Due process MUST be applied properly and I'm really not confident it would be when it comes to dealing with "just animals". I also told them if this was to be applied then the opposite should also be enforced - ie Vets and medical staff be required to report all incidents of suspected or actual animal abuse that they come across (including those related to dog bites). That was my speil more or less anyway. -
Geez I'm getting sick of hearing about these cowardly morons. This time these "brave" mouth-breathers have picked on one of Australia's most dangerous and scariest - a tiny baby koala http://northern-times.whereilive.com.au/ne...field-property/ Lock em up and throw the damn key away. Glad they were on a compassionate lovely persons property who rushed them to the vet tho!!!

LOL Me neither but that's just because I am basically a totally disorganised routine-less individual. My dogs have never had problems with it - they know good stuff happens all the time with me - you just never know when!!! But I never had a really cool sounding excuse for being disorganised before - now I do THANKS GG!!! I can use that one on my super-organised sometime walking-buddy, greyhound-owner friend

Cats In The Reception Area Of The Vets

Yes bulldust - mine was a country vet too. Still is I guess - but I don't go there anymore. I go to the city ones instead. A kangaroo!!! That's kind of cool tho I can see why it would be annoying. -
Yes I was thinking the same thing. WHy do they call this "ritualistic"???? It has nothing to do with ritual - just someone who has no brains whatsoever and no compassion for other living creatures who probably finds it entertaining to inflict pain on others. Noting as structured or logical (however twisted) as ritual!!!

PS I'm told that some pet shops sell bags of cheap kibble in clear plastic bags they've made up themselves and often these are actually out of date brand name kibble.
-
Depends what the kibble is - what brand, how it's preserved etc, how out of date it is. I bought some just-out-of-date Eaglepack Holistic Duck at a discount a few months ago. I've got one small baggy full left (I don't feed kibble a lot - just in emergencies, lazy moments, when my raw food regime is falling down a bit etc) which I'm using for training treats and they seem just fine still. I think it was a fantastic buy!! Wish I could do it again as it's expensive feeding this mob with raw or commercial I look for mould, funny smells etc to tell me if it's so far out of date it's not usable. On the other hand I was given some fancy expensive dog food once (not out of date) that went mouldy in just 3 weeks. I can't remember the brand name but it was for large breeds and had really large squarish pieces of kibble that were quite moist.

Cats In The Reception Area Of The Vets
spottychick replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
One vet I went to had a beautiful white cat wandering around the reception area and while my dogs are okay with cats and I thought it was fairly nice to see, the cat wouldn't let my dogs in the door. We were forced to stay outside till the vet came out to get us for the appointment. The staff thought this was funny. I didn't. My dogs COULD kill a cat if they wanted to, but they were trying to avoid conflict with it and wouldn't go through while it was lying right across the narrow doorway swatting at them. I was trying to handle the dogs and deal with a stupid cat (and stupid staff who laughed while they were telling me the cat doesn't like dogs) in a situation where my dogs were already stressed. In the end it was easier to sit outside in the hot sun than try to deal with such a ridiculous situation. SO given this I would say they shouldn't have the cat there if it interferes with people's access to the premises. Same as you wouldn't allow a resident dog to prevent people bringing their animals in. -
Kelly Louise - I don't think MM meant that your post was offensive. I think MM just meant that you gave too much away about what happened in your reply. I'm not sure it matters tho if people have come into this thread and scrolled that far down they must be interested in the topic - even if they don't click on the link for details. But I guess some people just want to read what's being said without knowing the graphic details...... ???? I dunno ..... but I think thats what she meant

So many cowardly creepy scumbags out there doing things like this to innocent animals. It really is time the Police and the system in general got tougher on them. This isn't only about the animals - this is about sick psychos who are capable of anything -against anyone - if they can do this sort of thing.
-
My GOD What is wrong with people???? How terrible for the people who loved those dear dogs. Oh this makes me want to hit something - preferably whoever did this despicable cowardly thing.

um.... ear plugs How about the old ticking clock inside a fluffy towel thing - it's supposed to replicate a heart-beat. I found this - looks helpful http://www.raisingspot.com/adopting/first_..._with_puppy.php

How old is he? He is barking for a reason even if it's not immediately apparent. It might be strange noises or it might be just because he's distressed and lonely. Can you bring him inside?

A dog biting a child is generally the evil of all evil's in the canine world, but kids can do some really silly things to provoke being bitten like stapling a dogs ear. There was something else I read about a kid shoving a pencil into a dogs ear with the same result after the dog being PTS, they found what the child had done to the dog In these cases the parents should be prosecuted for endangering the life of their child AND animal cruelty. -
You forgot the swearing You're correct!! LOL Plenty of that too

I said such important life and death decisions should NEVER be left up to Councils or their employees who don't exactly have a history of making sound decisions about ANYTHING, let alone whether or not to take a dogs life. -
ROFLMAO Hilarious post and thread hahahahahaha I used to run with my dogs but they were all off-lead running along bush tracks. I can't atm because I have an idiot recently adopted dalmatian that has to be walked on a lead and has absolutely no prior training. So I can relate to the posts in here - tripping, dodging, yelling, pushing, tugging, stopping dead to sniff something, me arriving home red-faced and harassed beyond belief. In fact, just before I read this thread I was contemplating just leaving the newby home tomorrow morning and taking my nicely behaved girl for a run to the river. She could do with losing the weight and she keeps well out of my way when we're running. Might have to do that.

Yeah it doesnt seem like these people would endanger their dog any more than necessary. The snake was stunned, they had to think fast and get the bag etc - I can see why they quickly took a pic while doing all that. Great shot to have for the future!!

DaniM - I think this is the third post on this LOL Doesn't matter - the more the merrier :D

I added lots of stuff about people abusing dogs eg suggested that Vets be asked to report any dog abuse cases they encounter to the authorities. :D Also that instead of running around destroying every dog they come across maybe councils etc should be looking at imposing AND ENFORCING decent penalties on the OWNERS who neglect their animals and create dangerous dogs (of all breeds) in the first place. Sorry - couldn't help myself -
Oooh did I have a thing or two to say on that survey!!!!!

It's HUGE! What a great dog - glad he's okay

Nail Clippers, How Do Dthese Work?
spottychick replied to Bundyburger's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I found the scissor type crushes/pinches the nails and my dogs hated them AS WELL AS the guillotine style. I bought a pair of Smart Trimmers which are slightly better and I don't have to fight my dogs quite so much. My preference is to get someone else to do it LOL -
You could try leaving her in the house for small amounts of time to see what she does and then increase the amount a little each time. Don't leave her in an area, or give her access to areas, where she can damage something you don't want damaged until you are sure she is trustworthy - and that may take months!!!. Bedrooms are the most vulnerable I used to put boxes on the couch for my destructo dog to dissuade him from getting on the couch and digging it up when I was out. After a while it became a non-issue. To me, it depends what you want to do in the future. I prefer to have dogs who can be left in the house and just hang out so I focus on that - and sometimes I've lost nice cushions or a forgotten teddy bear or had a dog eat my entire tub of butter etc.... I just learnt from the experience and got more diligent. But I found the more time they spend inside - with you or without you - the more they understand how to behave. I also don't let the dogs play inside - if they start leaping about and carrying on wanting to play with each other I tell them "outside" and they do! That way I know they wont play inside when I'm away and so that lessens the risk of my favourite doona becoming their temporary tug toy
