  1. ROFLMAO Have you any idea what a "house call" would cost me living out here in the sticks??? The "extra" works out to around $600 or more for travel expenses depending on where the vet is located. Not everyone in Australia lives within cooee of a vet. I don't think the majority of people here have a problem with vets having resident cats or any other animals as such. I like seeing animals that live at the vets - it tells me they are animal lovers. But, as has been said a few times, it's about how those resident animals behave and how the staff behave when their resident animals create problems with visiting animals and especially when they cause unnecessary problems or stress to debilitated and/or stressed "patients".
  2. I sometimes use Thornit powder to keep my guys ears under control. I get it from the UK and have had no problems with delivery. I usually buy a few at a time (additional ones for friends) to save on postage. ETA: I buy it from www.championpets.co.uk - have chatted via email with the owner and she is lovely. If you buy from them tell her Jacki from Tassie put you on to her :p She might remember me We had some issues getting it in to Tassie so she labelled it "cold sore powder" and that did the trick!
  3. Little creep. Hope he learns his lesson so he doesn't grow up to be a big creep. LOL I bet it was the kid that sold them - no adult would sell em that cheap - would they?
  4. Oh that is fantastic!!! Those two certainly found themselves the best home! I dont think i could do this tho - my poor brain cant come at it. Tango would love it tho - hmmmm maybe i can get a bloke to do it for me
  5. My dally girl also has similar problems. She swallows wings whole and throws them back up again - but eventually chews them LOL SHe always looks quite pleased when it pops back up - like "Oh look! THere's another one!!" hahahahaha But I prefer not to have that happen so I tried chicken frames. She found them too daunting but was happy with a half chicken frame at a time. I only feed them bones outside and I never let them sit around with them and "guard" them. If they don't eat em straight away I pick em up and put em back in the fridge. This worked with the girl who was also being fussy about lamb flaps for a while. Once that happened a few times she stopped being fussy about it and just ate em. LOL Also, I have a dally who MUST drink lots of water but doesnt seem keen to. I often give him a huge bowl of water with a bit of milk in it for flavour (he can have milk) and he gulps down the lot. Because he's been starved for a long time he eats anything tho - including water with miso in it. Not every dog will do that LOL But I know of other people who use beef stock or similar in water for their dogs to make sure they get enough fluid in them Are you sure there's nothing wrong with his teeth or gums or even the muscles around his neck???? Especially if he's only chewing on one side? If there was it could explain why he has trouble with a lot of bones and why he got upset while guarding the bone.
  6. hmmmmm Not sure what to say here. It sounds like it could be just a bit of an upset tummy if she's otherwise okay. Cold nose and healthy gums etc.... Sometimes they can get over that in a day or two and their bodies will tell them not to eat (fasting can be good). I've had it happen many time over the years. But I would be concerned if it went longer than 48 hours. LOL I know the feeling of doing something you think is very useful - like listening to their tummy, getting the information and then thinking "right. And so what exactly does that mean anyway???" I have no idea what they should sound like, but I know what it sounds like when things are not good - very gurgly.
  7. Oh okay! Good to know - I looked on the site but didn't see it - mustn't have looked in the right place Thanks Jules, I feel a wee bit more confident now. I'm sure they'll answer my email tomorrow anyway.
  8. Oh well. Guess no-one knows. I put a little bit in his dinner tonight anyway. Hopefully it will be allright. He liked it of course.
  9. Oh good grief! How can something like this happen? Those creeps will be laughing over their cocktails tonight. I hope they get mad cow disease
  10. I use Fidos Everyday when my dogs need a good wash and then follow it up with malaseb. If I didn't do this I found I'd have to use a lot more malaseb to get a decent lather and fully cover their bodies to get the 10 minute effect. With the pre-wash, the malaseb goes on them much more smoothly. Fidos is gentle and cheaper than malaseb so it's work out more economical for me. This combo seems to work really well on my lot. Note that my dally's have never needed washing all that often tho.
  11. I actually thought chewwys posts were hilarious LMAO
  12. I am currently trying to improve the diet of my stone-forming dally. His vet notes say he can be given a good quality canned food as long as it doesn't contain liver etc. Can anyone tell me if Nature's Gift Chicken/Rice and/or Chicken/oats is made only from muscle meat or do they use liver and what not in the mix?? I have emailed them this question but don't expect an answer till Monday or later. Meanwhile I have some in the house (I always have it for emergencies with my raw food ingredients! My other dalmatians have done well on it) so I'd love to give him some today if I felt it was safe. Anybody very knowledgable on NG???
  13. Oh sorry to hear that about his tummy - poor love! The oil will do tho - it's a shame the other oil Budwig recommends isn't available eh! I really hope you have success with your treatment for your lovely boy. It's such a difficult thing to deal with!
  14. LOL Ooooh thanks CH - you noticed the titer test question!!! I don't have a spare anything to share but I'm sending you positive thoughts so I'm sure that'll help ETA - I only have 2 dogs atm but have had 3 in the past so I hope that qualifies me under your "mad crazy dog people" criteria!!!
  15. awww the poor wee thing sounds like she was lonely. I'm glad you were there to help but yeah - that would get a bit much.
  16. I have given mine both. I have noticed that some minced chicken frame smells worse than others. I used to get some awfully foul stuff from the Fyshwick markets when I lived in Canberra but the stuff I buy here doesnt smell like that. I dont know why some have that smell, maybe they've gone off or something. I was wary of it and stopped buying it anyway.
  17. Kid-free, dog friendly accommodation - sounds like bliss to me. :D The hot and cold tap thingy is a great idea. You could also develop a partnership with a local dog groomer - especially a mobile one - for those who like to use them. Just a nice added extra that wont cost you anything.
  18. Just curious, because this often makes it difficult for people wanting to board dogs. When you say you require proof of vaccination, do you also take into account titer tests because for a number of reasons some people do this rather than vaccinate their dogs on a regular basis.
  19. Oh my god. Not sure it gets any crueller than that - a poor defenceless old blind cavalier. What absolute *#@*@# these people are. Not fit to walk the same earth, breathe the same air as the dogs they torture.
  20. I've seen some other nice photos of her running with her friends. The good thing is she seems like a happy dog.
  21. Oh god, I hope not. Those poor dogs! People make me so sick. WHen they catch fight organisers/participants I think they should shove the lot of them in a small cage and make them fight to the death. Then keep the survivor until the next lot of idiots are brought in and then start the process over again. Less expense than keeping them in prison, more effective than fines and this way you can guarantee they don't breed. Yep, I really hate them ;)
  22. Oh no! SO sad to hear the poor baby died. And the horse. Unbelievable stuff.
