  1. Roflmao - that is spectacular! I'm a fan of DWTS - I reckon they should show this LMAO What a gorgeous dog!!!
  2. video wouldn't work on my crappy dial up connection I really like the Ford Mondeo ad with the German Shepherd. "There's a great adventure dog who always likes to work (Ruff ruff) He's a German Shepherd and he something something something..."
  3. There wasn't really any time for him to stop the twit from doing it. My friend was inside and heard him say "skitch it" out on the verandah. By the time he realised what the lunatic kelpie owner had done I was long gone and he found the idiot laughing on the verandah about how he'd set his dogs onto that woman with her dalmatians. He told told the idiot off and then told me what he'd done.
  4. Couldn't agree more. What's even worse is something I encountered recently - where dogs are deliberately set onto someone elses dogs. I was walking my dogs (on leads) past a friends house the other day and I realised the friend was being visited by a local guy who owns 2 aggressive kelpies. I saw the dogs in the back of the ute sitting in my friends driveway and just as I registered they were there, they suddenly leapt off the ute, hackles up and rushed at my dogs with ferocious growls and snarls etc. Fortunately for all of us they were too stupid to go to the open gate and instead tried to cut diagonally across in front of us so they came up against a tall picket fence. We had time to run down the street and get back to my house before they realised the gate was open. We were lucky, this could have ended with dogs and me injured or killed. Later I learnt from my friend that the dogs owner had deliberately "skitched" his dogs onto mine!!!! WHy? Apparently he thought it was "funny". He deserves to be locked up and to me this is a criminal act - an assault.
  5. Poor old guy. That is very sad. Hope he's okay!
  6. I must admit I sometimes stop and let my dog sniff the other dog through the fence/gate but only with dogs I know are friendly and are barking in excitement rather than guarding. If a dog was seriously going off behind a fence I would and DO just keep walking past and distract my dog - why would you want to stop if the dog is clearly not wanting you to???
  7. Another one here who uses nutty barking dogs behind fences to train my new boy not to be spooked by other dogs. It's a nice safe way to do it and he's becoming great at not worrying about barking dogs. My friend keeps taking her dog out into the middle of the road to get away from barking dogs but I'm trying to convince her to do what I'm doing. I give him lots of praise and a treat if he focusses on me when walking past the noisy ones TraceyB - That feels a little rude on their part. They probably should have talked to you about it first.
  8. Hmmm that's interesting. I thought it was more or less all made from the same stuff. I'm just curious as to who told you that and did they say why? I first discovered glucosamine and msm years ago before there was any (or I knew of any) made especially for pets and I used Nutralife (I think it was) glucosamine w chondoitrin and msm on my dally who was lame from arthritis. I also changed her diet to raw. She was running around like a young thing in a couple of months. I always thought it was the Nutralife that sorted her arthritis. I'd be interested to know if that's the case or not.
  9. They'd been "in custody" for 4 years. God only knows what happened to them in all that time. No wonder they were untrustworthy - especially having been violent previously.
  10. Solution: Don't leave food lying around in the bowl (or on the floor). It's better not to have food continuously available anyway. I always take the dogs bowls away after 10 minutes. There's never anything left in the bowls LOL but if there was I'd either throw it out or put it away and clean out the bowls till next meal time.
  11. I don't see why not. Maybe alternate the two. I've used Joint Guard but not Sasha's Blend. It's hard to work out the exact ingredients in Joint Guard but the main difference seems to be the addition of msm. Could you just add msm as a supplement and still use Sasha's? Just thinking out loud.
  12. Who 'smacked' your dog??? Me! as she was very naughty chasing a little dog and she wouldn't come back when I called. I wouldn't come back either if I knew I would get smacked when I did. OMG! No! Never smack your dog for not coming back to you! I see that so often and then the owners wonder why the dog won't come when they're called. It's pretty obvious really. What's the incentive??? Smacking dogs, if ever done, should be reserved for only very serious situations IMO and even then you've gotta know what you're doing. If you want your dog to come back instead of chasing something, you need to make it more FUN to return to you than it is to chase the other dog. Screaming, yelling, smacking etc achieves the opposite. Don't let her off the lead before she is trained to recall for a start. But sometimes it happens by accident so you need to know how you're going to get her back (hopefully). And keep in mind she's not being "naughty" she's just having fun and not understanding what you want. My newly adopted untrained dog accidentally pulled the lead out of my hand the other day while walking through a forest and started trotting happily off up the track. I said "Oh shit" and a friend who was with me immediately panicked and roared "TANGO GET BACK HERE" and started chasing him. I told her to stop and don't yell. Then I ran in the opposite direction calling "Look Look! What's this Tango, what's over here!!!" in the silliest brightest voice I could manage and then stopped and pretended to be interested in something in the bushes. Tango came back to see what was so interesting in the bushes and I gave him a million pats and quietly picked up the end of the lead. Unfortunately I didn't have any treats with me because that would have been the best thing to do when he came back, but I'll remember to take them next time!!! Even I was shocked at how easily I got him back (don't know if it will always be that easy LOL) but if my friend had gone chasing after him and yelling like he was going to get a thrashing I can guarantee I'd never have found him again.
  13. At first I thought this thread was titled "Who wants to share their dodgy credentials" and I was all set to dazzle you LMAO Had dogs all my life. Have owned a mutt, a Cavalier King Charles and a Cocker spaniel and shared houses with people with a range of breeds, before meeting a dalmatian X mastiff who belonged to a friend of mine. He was pure white and called Kimba - the best dog I'd ever met. He could stand with his paws over my shoulders and was as gentle as a lamb and incredibly loyal. I fell in love with dalmatians after that and am now on to my 6th dally. One of my dallys was with me for almost 19 years. Oh and that same dally won ribbons at obedience school. SO thats my credentials FWIW
  14. Oh FFS! 68 people have whinged about a dog barking at them from behind a fence so the council goes nuts and does this!!!! What the....???? Dogs bark. Stars twinkle at night. Birds sing. Actually, come to think of it......birds squawking and singing are a bloody nuisance, especially at night... yeah..... really annoy me. It upsets my tv viewing. I think the council should shoot all birds that sing or squawk because I want to live in a vaccuum. And there's some pretty full on cow mooing that goes on around here too......
  15. Maybe the trainer was suggesting you use the lead rather than try and grab or push the dog off - for safety and so that it's not an aggressive action. I certainly wouldn't pull the dog down roughly or yell etc at the same time - and would praise her when she's on the floor. But I agree, if you don't feel comfortable about it there's something wrong with the trainer's instructions.
  16. All of my dallies have seemed to recognise other dallies. A friend of mine told me that after I moved interstate her dog (who used to be best buds with mine) would react to any dalmatian as if she thought it was my dog. Until she got up close and realised it wasn't. So i think they recognise familiar body shape and patterning etc
  17. Bit of a whinger really. She must have been desperate for material.
  18. Wow!! That's one desperate snake! A beauty tho. Hope the snake catcher is there soon - poor devil needs help!! LOL OH and so do you guys
  19. My impression is that dogs on lead get more worried when a dog runs up to them because they can't get away or manouvre properly so they show distress. Perhaps this creates tension in the other dog and it bounces back etc.
  20. Absolutely - report the stupid woman. As people have said, if she's a regular there she can be identified.
