  1. That is a shame. It's a beautiful spot
  2. The only proviso I worried about with amounts of flax oil with a dog battling cancer is related to the ratio of oil to cottage cheese. You do need to balance that right. This site might help Budwig diet As for the controversy re avacados - I found so much info on both sides (and all bits in between!!) it was hard to work out what to think. I'm definite that they shouldn't have the skin or pip but I also had vets recommend avacado flesh as beneficial to cancer dogs. But it's a difficult call - I know I was always wary as soon as I saw "toxic" but when there's too many opposing opinions I usually abandon the internet white-noise and go ask someone local who knows stuff (both conventional experts and alternative - eg a holistic vet like someone else suggested!!). It sure can get confusing and stressful when you deal with cancer...... These people are great to talk to dogcancer.net
  3. Hi Lisa - I sympathise with you! Having also witnessed a sudden vicious attack on my dally by a pitbull last week I too feel there is a problem with a certain kind of person who OWNS these dogs. It's not the dog or the breed but they do seem to attract absolute morons - usually bogan blokes but your woman sort of fits what I'm thinking of. (tho obviously some nice people own them too - don't misunderstand me!!!). The idiot who owned the pitbull that had my dally by the throat is known to me but still hasn't apologised or made any comment at all about what he saw happen. Even tho I was in danger as well as my dog!!! I did notice that when I was walking the dogs at the river a couple of days ago his ute was heading towards us - I immediately screamed at my girl to 'come' (I had my other dally on a lunge lead) and we raced for the car, but he did a quick u-ey and left - which surprised me. I guess I should be thankful for small mercies. It's hard not to feel bad about the breed I know, but I've met some lovely pittys - it's just the 'mouth-breathing breed' of some of their owners that's the problem. Glad your puppy's okay and good on ya for trying to do some damage control afterwards. I can see you'll end up with a lovely natured well-socialised dog! Oh and my opinion about the woman involved - report that stupid waste of oxygen!
  4. Thanks Tassie My previous boy had a terrible reaction to JJ stings and would swell up and limp for a long time after being bitten. But he was highly allergic and reacted to most things. I got him from a rescue group in WA who had been told by their vet that because the boy was starved and hadn't seen daylight in 12 months of his young life and was being kept in a shed 24 hours a day he would always have problems with allergies, he had no resistance. That vet also recommended Polaramine - but I had forgotten the doggy dosage so thanks for that. Your BC is around the same weight as my dogs so that works for us too.
  5. I can only tell you my dogs (and me for that matter) get both flax oil and fish oil. Usually not at the same time/meal tho. My recent adoptee - who is a stone-former - gets a range of oils because he can't eat a lot of meat etc so I give him flax, sesame, fish oil, canola etc He gets the fish oil every day (especially while he's building up weight) and the other oils are alternated.
  6. Hmmmm My fella loved them (as do all my dallies) and had no issues with digesting them - but I don't know that I'd give em to dogs too often. It was just a thought. I have heard they can cause problems with some breeds and the pip/skin is possibly toxic but there seems to be a variety of opinions on that. Perhaps just check with the vet. I think there's actually a dog food in the US with avacado in it - Avoderm. The flax/cottage cheese thing is a cancer protocol called "budwig diet" which I gave my dog everyday when he was battling cancer but I know of some dog owners who are sometimes using chia seed oil as an alternative to flax. I heard that on a yahoo group for dogs with cancer.
  7. Mix flaxoil in with the cottage cheese - make sure its thoroughly blended tho because flax on it's own is bad for cancer. I used a hand blender and then added fruit or sardines etc to feed my dog when he had cancer. Also, will your dog eat avacados? Also, for her digestion - while yoghurt is good, have you looked into kefir? It's like a more potent form of yoghurt. I make it all the time for me and my dogs. YOu can buy the culture in a packet (dried powder in sachets) from alternative health stores tho this isn't as good as the proper grain culture, it still makes a pretty decent and healthy kefir. I bought the powder form to practice on until I felt more confident I wouldn't immediately kill off a live culture. Anyway - some info here: Doms kefir site (he sells live culture) And example of the powdered type NHO
  8. Eagle Pack hands down. I did a lot of research before choosing a "commercial" dog food that I would use when I can't feed raw for some reason and EP came in at the top of the list. I wouldn't even consider Advance having looked at the ingredient list especially if your dog is having skin problems (although it's better than the supermarket cheapies!). This site is a great resource - dog food project
  9. Thanks for the update swissgirl. I'm glad to hear there's some improvement for this poor guy. I am sure the woman who caused this has no understanding of what an idiot she is, but I'm equally sure karma will get her anyway.
  10. ooooh those green anty things look hideous. Almost as bad as this ABC article
  11. How sad. What a boring sterile world we're creating. My dogs have always gone to cafes with me - one used to sit up straight on a chair and look like part of the group so much that we'd put a coffee cup in front of her. People would take photos. When she was a puppy, if we were still at the cafe when it got dark and colder someone would put her on their lap. As she grew bigger several people would put her on their lap. LOL She was part of the character of the cafe.
  12. Thanks Boronia - I'll keep that one in mind for all of us. Green ants??? Never heard of those. Do they bite or sting? Just curious because the Jack Jumper is fairly unique for an ant coz it has a sting so treatment and symptoms etc are closer to wasp/bee stings than for insect bites.
  13. Yes they are This is why it doesn't matter how they portrayed him on this show - they were using him as a "positive" example of puppy farming - what a joke! http://www.govegan.com.au/puppies/?p=200
  14. er.... Matt Hams???? ...... wasn't that guy the same bloke who owns the puppy farm that was in trouble before and has now renamed it Banksiapark in an effort to overcome bad publicity? If so, I was a bit shocked to see them interviewing him and the comments he made were hypocritical to say the least. Sorry guys I don't think the report was done very well.
  15. THe link to the Geelong Advertiser article doesn't seem to work. God this is disgusting!!
  16. Oops sorry IM. Forgot to let you know!! She was fine - obviously. In fact, a couple of days later she did the same thing when I was visiting a friends property. Lifted her back leg and flicked it a lot. I checked her foot and - sure nuff - another rotten jumper. This time nothing happened at all - it didn't even swell up LOL She seems to have a built-in immunity to the things. Wish I did!!!
  17. You cant tell much from those pics but like PF said, the dogs are supposed to be used to catch and hold the animal. I don't have a problem with it if it's done properly. Fairly high price on the dog eh. Wonder why he's selling it if it's such a good pig dog.
  18. Oh dear. Vet rage! ..... I must admit I sympathise with the poor bloke tho - but the reactions a bit extreme to say the least.
  19. I'm no expert, but I would guess suddenly making him sleep in the lounge would just add to his anxiety. Just my thought.
  20. Hi Shantia Sure - I need to gather my thoughts on it and get back to you
  21. It's slightly better than allowing people to have over 300 dogs in filthy conditions. But yeah, it doesn't go far enough. *sigh*
  22. Awww thanks MM. I'm happy to have him despite the stress - he's also a joy to have around in so many ways. I guess lots of people in this forum have seen lots of dogs become more confident and happy when they've come to their homes but for me it's been an amazing experience. He seems to display more personality every day. eg in the last few days he's decided that sitting in the bedroom doorway and barking loudly is a sure-fire way of making me get up and let him outside. And when I sit up and say "Tango! Shut up" he yips and runs around the house doing silly play bounces at me and Pepper. LMAO And Pepper has amazed me with how tolerant, cool and calm she is. Until recently she was the youngest of three dogs here and she sort of took a back-seat to the others who both had strong personalities. She sort of played the role of the "baby" of the family and didn't really do much except be really cute. So it's only now that I'm really seeing her personality emerge properly too. And I'm really impressed with her. Listen to me! I'm so obsessed with my dogs ROFLMAO
  23. That all makes absolute sense Aiden! Thank you for responding I think I'll just get him a basic muzzle for when I want to clip his claws etc (at some point soon he's gonna need to be washed LOL) and for emergencies and leave it at that. As for the neighbours dog, I won't be walking the dogs down that way again.
