Yeah I'd rather buy local! I can use Google but sometimes (often) trying to get the linked sites to download is so unbelievably slow that I give up on it all. This seems to be especially so with pet sites - for some reason they put all kinds of java and other scripts into their coding and make it almost impossible for slow connetions to access them. My fave dog shopping site recently "upgraded" their website and now I can't access it at all. I just thought folks here might have some ideas from their own experience This is why I'm looking forward to moving house into broadband land
-
Yep, I've actually put the word out that I'm looking for a bloke with a van/truck to help me move. The bush telegraph usually works - I just have to keep packing and have faith!
-
THanks Jake!! They're not exactly groovy LOL but if I can't find anything else they might do - and they're definitely affordable. Why do they use such naff colours on dog accessories
-
LOL Yes a mobile sunshade would be perfect I'm good. Flat out dealing with Tango and Pepper's on-going adjustment to each other and Tango's training and eye issues and also packing up the house and preparing to move! Difficult especially when I can't afford to hire a moving company and don't know exactly how I'm going to move the big stuff. Wish I could get the dogs to pull a cart or something. But the good thing is where I'm moving to I'll be only 20 mins away from a choice of THREE vets instead of having to drive and hour and a half or more to get to one. AND I'll have access to wierd and wonderful things like broadband internet and something mysterious called 'Mobile Phone Coverage'.

Okay, Mr Tango has an indolent ulcer in one eye and I have to try and keep it away from sunlight. So I dug out the Doggles my old girl used to wear and tried them on him. He looked gorgeous! And he was very good about it - it took him about 10 minutes before he swiped them off. LMAO I tried again today and this time he swiped them so they ended up on top of his head. Hee hee He looked like a bomber pilot - very cool. The whole town saw him out walking like that and he was a bit of a show-stopper! ANYway - he left them on his head and wasnt at all bothered with them sitting up there or the straps around his neck and throat. So it occurred to me that maybe I could get him a peaked cap to shade his eyes instead because it looks like he'd keep that on!! Does anyone know where I can buy them at a reasonable price? I'm thinking a cool leather one or something like the old pilots used to wear!

My old girl was blind for the last couple of years of her life. Didn't bother her in the slightest. She just charged around as usual - I had to be on my toes when we went for walks coz if she caught a scent she'd race off after it regardless of what was in the way. She also used to check out new environments very carefully, almost in a grid pattern and you could see her taking note of obstacles etc - most of the time no-one could tell she was blind. So no, theres no need to pts a perfectly happy healthy dog just because its sight has gone.

"dog Laws Bite Back" And "vicious Bogan Owners Blamed&q

Yes, someone posted this earlier. All I can say is BSL should stand for Bogan Specific Legislation. -
It Might Be Time To Make The Hardest Decision... :(
spottychick replied to hortfurball's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs have always reacted when one of the dogs has died. My oldest died at home, in my arms, of natural causes at 18 and a half. My other two dogs howled and the boy grieved for several weeks. THen a year later the boy died and my one remaining dog, Pepper, was devastated. He was PTS during an operation for cancer when we realised it was inoperable and he would suffer badly if we didn't do it. I brought him home and buried him next to a stream on a friends bush block. My other dog and two of his doggy friends went over to his body before he was buried and were clearly distressed. But they get over it. To me the real issue would be that I would want the event to be as stress-free as possible for the dog that is leaving us so if I had a choice I'd have the vet come to my house. I wanted that for my boy, for him to just go to sleep in his basket and not know anything - but it didn't turn out that way...... -
OMG! Those pics are just absolutely gorgeous. I just wasted hours looking at em LOL

That's so cool!!!

They don't have to be dog friendly because it doesn't matter. Their major focus is not 'people' but making money from selling meat products, pure and simple - it makes no difference if it's fed to people, dogs, rats, cats or even native wild life - or thrown in the bin. If you're willing to pay the going price for their meat they have no right to refuse you - on any basis. And it is plain stupid as a business to start imposing your own silly prejudices upon your customers! Just like a shop that sells herbs or veggies doesn't care who you're buying the herbs or veggies for. It's none of their business. The point is that if you are serious about your business you cater to whatever the market is demanding. So if you're a butcher and you have people wanting to feed their dogs a good healthy raw meat diet and/or bones - then you'd be a complete meat-head (giggle!) to ignore that demand - or worse - deliberately alienate that sector of the market. You deserve to have your business go belly up if you're gonna behave like that IMHO.

At least they have that nice story about the guy with his "teddy bear" pitty This is so stupid tho - when are they going to focus on the stupid dog OWNERs rather than the dog? If it becomes too difficult to own APBTs the morons who mistreat them and fight them etc will just get some other type of breed. WHy don't they simply require all dogs to be desexed unless the owner is a registered breeder??? It just defies logic to me! And what's this about concrete-floored "cages"??? That sounds horrific! I thought we had laws about the welfare of dogs!

A Tip For Removing Messy Squashed Locusts ...
spottychick replied to persephone's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Yech! I've got two of them but they often seem to try the same technique on the wheels of random cars parked outside the local shop. I don't even want to know what they're cleaning up. -
I've met a few labradoodles and they are nice dogs but I know what he's talking about. Everytime I look in the paper or walk past a pet shop there is some new stupid name being pimped for what is essentially a BYB mongrel and I shudder to think what sort of conditions the breeding dogs are kept in. Giving these puppies silly names encourages people to buy cross-bred pups from puppy farms which of course encourages more puppy farmers. Then a bunch of these dog owners simply dump them when things don't work out or if they see a more appealing cross-breed "name" and want that one instead. If they were just "poodle crosses" or whatever they wouldn't be as popular with the kind of people who buy things as a fad. The stupidest one I've seen has got to be the "Shitzpoo" pups I saw in the paper recently - I mean REALLY!!!

That poor poor dog. It makes me feel sick to think of what it went through. This is a young man who behaves like this!!! I agree with the comment here - he is a budding sociopath, just think what he'll do to people in the next few years. At least they imposed a jail sentence at last, not much one but a step in the right direction. I'll be noting down his name and keeping an eye out re him having dogs in the future - I'm moving close to where he lives.

It is posted in this forum as tho it's in reference to this forum. I am not "offended" by those lines because they are not credible. My point was that his comment is a ridiculous and insidious attempt to disrespect people who are criticising the RSPCA and as such makes the rest of his justification/explanation hard to accept. However, even if it's not about people on DOL, the same response I made applies to wherever he might be referring to (except of course the bit I wrote about me personally LOL). It makes no difference which "people who have posted comments" he is talking about.

Ruby's In The Wars Again

I hope she's okay! -
Oh for goodness sake! He undermines the credibility of the rest of his email by making such a ridiculous statement. How can he "believe" any such thing? Has he read all the comments and investigated people's ISPs and made definite connections to our identities? Of course not. All he is doing here is dismissing a broad range of people's genuine concerns with a red herring. And anyway, so what? Why does this make someone's concerns about the RSPCA any less legitimate? It just means they have first-hand knowledge of the way the RSPCA works and are probably in a better position than most to make critical comments. I have never been prosecuted by anyone let alone the RSPCA and nor do I know anyone personally who has. Like many others here, I'm simply a concerned ex-supporter who loves animals and would like to understand why the RSPCA keep getting such bad press. Mr Beatty might not want to "believe" that but nevertheless it's true. Perhaps if they stopped denying that they have an image problem, trivialising people who criticise and made a genuine effort to confront their problems/people's (mis)conceptions we wouldn't keep having these threads in this forum. I would love to believe his side of the story but when he starts with a sweeping dismissive comment like that it really is hard to take him at face value.
-
Whether or not they did something wrong in this instance, people are clearly finding problems with at least in some branches. So why change the RSPCA? Oh I don't know. Perhaps you're quite right and they're doing perfectly well just as they are. But let's ask the millionaire lady in Tassie who recently withdrew her considerable long-term support for the RSPCA after people in the organisation blew the whistle on what the Tassie branch were up to. Or how about you ask the RSPCA themselves if they're pleased with the fact that their administration was so horrendously bad that they lost her vital support along with many other regulars due to money being wasted and consequently too many perfectly fine animals being PTS. To me there seems to be good reason to look at making changes in the RSPCA but what would I know? I'm just a blonde dally owner ;)

Bwahahahaha Very clever!!! Oooh that reminds me - is tonight the night for Inspector Rex? I keep missing it - sorry completely ;)

Another Dog Attack - Front Page Of The Border Mail
spottychick replied to Trisven13's topic in In The News
This is worse than just a case of an idiot owner not having an idiot dog on a lead. She also ran away from the consequences of her irresponsible behaviour and left an old man to suffer and - for all she knew - die from his injuries. What kind of moron does that? And if she and her dog are also responsible for the previous attack then she is criminally negligent. I hope they find her and throw the book at her. Never mind the dog, she needs to be taken off the street ASAP. SHe sounds like the woman whose dog startled the guide dog resulting in it's blind owner falling into the bay and ending up in hospital. Wonder if it's the same stupid moron? -
BUT OTHER RESCUE GROUPS ARE NOT ACTING AS A QUASI POLICE FORCE and not accepting billions of dollars in donations to save animals so its only fitting that these should come under more NOT LESS public scrutiny. Good point Steve! Anne - I just want to say - just because people don't have answers doesn't mean they can't see the "implications" of their criticisms, whether they're talking about the RSPCA or any other issue. Actually I've seen plenty of suggestions as to how improve the way the RSPCA run things, in this and other threads - they are ideas that people are throwing around and may not all be brilliant or completely worked out or provide a full report on a total re-structuring of the RSPCA etc but hey.... what do you expect? This is how developments and improvements become a reality, people start questioning what's going on, not accepting propoganda and looking beneath the surface. They throw around ideas, brainstorm, reject some ideas, try to develop others. For the most part they are not experts in this stuff, just concerned ordinary people. You can't expect everyone to have all the answers to life, the universe and the woes of RSPCA administration. At least they are interested enough in the welfare of animals to be giving a damn and trying to identify the issues etc. To me that's enough and if something positive comes out of their thoughts then that's all to the better. I'd prefer that to having everyone just blindly accept everything the RSPCA does or simply ignore all the problems because they can't single-handedly figure out a cunning plan to fix everything. Others may simply express their dismay, distress or disgust at what they see happening. They're entitled to do that too. They are not obliged to come up with solutions, or even considered opinions, just because they are upset by what they read or see happening. Meanwhile, since the RSPCA have bucketloads of money at their disposal and are specifically funded to provide welfare to animals I would expect THEY should be coming up with ideas as to how they can improve their organisation and stop making bad decisions, wasting money etc. THey can even hire someone to do it for them if it's too hard for them to work it out by themselves. And just maybe threads like this and forums like DOL can provide them with some pointers.

As it should be. Wake up Queensland!

This is just too awful. Words fail me here - what a stupid stupid senseless thing to do.
