Interesting Things That Happen In Dog Parks
spottychick replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm leaning towards kivi looking out for Erik Sweet -
Doesnt sound like much of an "attack" if the reported injuries are anything to go by -fairly minor by the sounds of it. if a dog that size was attacking he'd have more than a few scratches and a cut mouth.

Would You Try To Save These 4 Dogs
spottychick replied to woodbyne's topic in General Dog Discussion
????? I've never had a problem training dallies. You just have to know how - ie they are intelligent and strong-willed and won't just do something 'because they're told to' (it's why I like them). They will do almost anything for treats tho LOL -
That is sad

Would You Try To Save These 4 Dogs

This story makes me angry - not at woodbyne of course! Get hold of Dally rescue - although they already have a few - they can give you advice etc. Remember that dogs can be trained - I just adopted a dally at 9 years old who had never been walked and had been neglected and had no manners. He even bit me and attacked my other dog several times. But he is turning into a really nice fella. So don't just dismiss any of them for their behaviour - especially at that age with no proper guidance. But it's a tough job to take on so you definitely need to get help with it all and I don't think you could take all four at once. Have you posted in the dally thread? -
I cant see a picture of anything

What a lovely idea. I'd be happy to give it a try here in tassie. Can anyone point me to where I can buy the pattern online? No shops for it near here. -
Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Oh good! A bit of healthy food - my poor body could do with some LMAO ;) (but not too much hee hee) I have lit an oil burner in the corner - I hope no-one minds. It has a meditation blend of essential oils wot soothes 'n stuff. -
Yes, While I appreciate the nice sentiments behind releasing them somewhere I just can't condone it anymore (I used to do it too!!) - not after living in the country and seeing the devastation they cause. They breed fast and furiously and by relocating them you're just making them someone else's problem and/or - as someone pointed out - they are then at risk of other people poisoning them and other issues. My friend who moved to Tassie recently nearly got lynched by locals for trying to "relocate" a family of rats!!!! A quick humane kill is IMHO the best solution for all concerned - if I could think of somewhere safe to release them I'd be all for it - but as far as I can imagine - there isn't anywhere.

Any of the poisons I will not use because: 1. It's a horrible slow and cruel way to kill anything. 2. My pets (or neighbours pets) could find it and eat it 3. My pets (or neighbours pets) could find the dead mice/rats and eat them (and the poison in them) 4. NATIVE wildlife could do either of 2 and 3. 5. The rats/mice tend to die noisily and in inconvenient places (like in the wall cavity) and stink the place up There's just no good reason to use it. I had one experience of one of my dogs eating a packet of mouse bait (ratsack) when I was house-sitting someones home. She had consumed nearly the whole packet before I noticed. Pepper was still a pup at the time and I was devastated. I repeatedly stuck my fingers down her throat and poured copious amounts of salt down her neck. I sat on the floor with her and made vomit noises trying to encourage her to throw up (stupid I know but I was desperate) and I cried a lot because she was patiently letting me half choke her and fill her with salt but still not vomiting. In the end I ran down the lane with her back to my house to call a vet and she charged off happily ahead of me - and chucked her guts up all the way down the lane! LOL This horrible green vomit was strewn all the way down the lane and then at the end of the trail it was just ordinary ex-food vomit. I rang the vet and he said because she'd just eaten before she ate the bait and had thrown it all up she should be okay. ANd she was. But it was much too close for comfort and I am very VERY diligent about bait now. (I didn't go back to the house as I didn't know where else they had ratsack - I found it everywhere - twits!) Later I checked the lane way and the vomit had killed all the grass where it fell LMAO Probably all the salt. Poor little Pepper! ANYway, I'd stick with traps, zappers, cats or JRTs etc

Yes its the same - mice don't like to be in open spaces and will only run across rooms if frightened. Set traps near the walls and near anywhere you see their poo. Also, I believe there is an electric shock mouse trap available - zaps them when they go on it. Not nice but at least it's quick and won't harm other animals (well most anyway!!). Wonder if it can detect spiders I was considering getting one at my old house when I was having a mouse plague and I'd get one here if I see any of the rats the neighbours are talking about!!

Ideas For Keeping The Oldies Extra Warm This Winter...
spottychick replied to redangel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Awww that box idea was good but I just cant find a cardboard box big enough for my fella. Unfortunately he freaks out if I put a blanket over him and I'm stuck for ideas about keeping him warm in these freezing tassie conditions.... -
I dont know him and he might be lovely, I wouldn't know. My comment was not about him as an individual but about the Tas RSPCAs recent controversies and the irony of the comment in the context of how they've behaved in the recent past. For all I know Paul may not have been involved with the RSPCA at the time but the comment is still ironic

Lucas is the original. I tried another brand once and didn't like it as much.

I agree. There must be a better way for a civilised society to handle this problem. Are any animal welfare leagues/organisations objecting?
-
Paw paw is perfect for this And yes, take the bone away.
-
They pay their execs more than enough - which is why they've recently lost their major sponsors in Tassie. I almost snorted coffee out my nose when I read the Presidents quoted comment LMAO - suddenly they are concerned about spending money on the animals instead of people!! AMazing!

My Turn To Whine About Idiot Dog Owners
spottychick replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ohhhh that's a disturbing thought - might explain a couple of things tho LOL As it happens, I have some champers from a local winery, thoughtfully provided by the real estate agent who sold me this house - as part of a wonderful "house-warming" package! They also gave me a beautiful tea towel, some fruit cake and lots of other goodies including a $20 voucher for a bakery in Scottsdale. But yes... champers ..... -
My Turn To Whine About Idiot Dog Owners

Could be! One thing's for sure, he's learning how to communicate his feelings - other than by snarling and snapping of course ;) He also barks a lot these days - a talking bark when he wants something - usually food or a walk. It's hilarious because when I start talking back to him telling him "shush tango! That's enough" his bark sort of fades into a mouthed squeak sound and then disappears altogether - even tho he's still moving his mouth hee hee hee Hard to describe but I hope you get the picture - it's caused much hilarity round here hee hee
