  1. ROFLMAO Poor pooch! Mine didn't get used to his - he smashed it to bits!!!
  2. Hey rubiton - I just went through the Liz Collar hell too with my dog Tango. I've just got hold of a new design collar - mine is for eye surgery and it's absolutely brilliant - so much better than the traditional one. The same people have one that is specifically for other surgery - like a Liz collar but smaller and with ear holes. I have no idea what that's like tho. Anyway - I highly recommend their "optivisor" and it's worth emailing them about their other product "novaguard" - I think it's called. WHen I emailed them they called me to talk about what would be best and to make sure I got the right size. I emailed a photo of my dog with my hand in the pic to help with sizing provisor
  3. Okay - the new optivisor arrived and I have to tell you it's FABULOUS! It took a bit of fiddling and adjusting the straps to get it right but once I did ......WOW! And he is such a happy boy - its not bothering him (or me or Pepper or my furniture or my legs) in the least!! Here's a pic of him doing his stretching which he does when he's feeling good!! How cute is that Jetson visor thingy There's more here if you're interested in seeing how it fits etc Tangos eye surgery pics
  4. Oh my god that's so sad - I'm very sorry you lost him!
  5. Thanks Kirty - that's really nice of you to offer! I think I have it covered tho - hopefully!! The visor arrived (they sent it up on the bus - but have charged me the freight which I thought was a bloody cheek!!) but as I kinda expected, it's too big for him. I emailed the inventor a couple of day ago and he rang me and talked to me for ages! I sent him photos etc and he said he thought Tango needed a small/medium because he has a long nose but he's not really very big-headed LOL. So I have ordered one direct from him - apparently he's just modified the design after feedback and now there are coloured straps to help people understand how they fit and they come partly pre-assembled because most people couldn't figure it out . They aren't too badly priced (thank goodness!) - about the same as a Buster collar. The medium from the vets was about $19 and the medium/small he is sending me is around $16. THe inventor guy (Tasi is his name) was really helpful when I spoke with him on the phone. Meanwhile Tango has been very good without the broken buster collar on and isn't rubbing his eye any more, so I'm not even sure he even needs anything anymore - maybe for when I let him run around off lead near nasty brambles and blackberry bushes..... until he has the stitches out and we see how it's going. Oh well, I guess if this all works out I'll have one ready for the next doggy disaster
  6. Thanks for that - you mean IN the eye??? I wash his eyes with eyebright tea - or I did when I was trying to heal it with antibiotic creams from the vet - so he's used to have wierd stuff put in his eyes LOL
  7. Is it a ban or a recall? Where did you find that out shmurps?
  8. Hey Jed! Good to see you getting stronger and stronger. I don't understand how anyone would have anything but the best thoughts for you. I didn't hear or see anything but concern and a tremendous amount of good will toward you. I have been amazed at the community here and how they responded. You are a much-loved and admired lady and I'm glad I've gotten to know you a bit over the last few weeks - even tho I'm not glad for the very sad circumstances. Cheers from me and my two dotty dogs
  9. LOL Always happy to make someone laugh. Thanks for the hugs. I've actually taken the horrible masking-tape-cone-thing-from-hell off him for the moment. He is so HAPPY!!! But I'm having to watch him with an eagle eye. He ran into the study after eating without it for the first time in days and jumped into his bed looking at me and sort of kneading the bedding with his front paws in a piston-like motion - a bit like a cat does. I think he was just incredibly happy and that was how he expressed it. Or maybe it was asking me not to put it back on as I had it in my hand thinking about it.....(he does the front leg piston dance when he's asking for food so it's definitely a communication thing for him). I just couldn't bring myself to stick it back on him so soon. For the first half hour he lay in his bed and licked himself all over, paying particular attention to the bit on his leg where they shaved his hair off. I can imagine how good it feels to him, it'd be like us needing to scratch for days and finally having our hands released so we go nuts!!!! He's blissfully asleep now so I can focus on playing on the net for a while.
  10. Oh nothing too bad re Tango himself Sorry - didn't mean to scare you!!!
  11. Yes I intend to. Especially after I got home and checked the phone and realised she hadnt even tried to call me to let me know there weren't there - knowing full well I was driving in to get them. The cow was so intent on learning her book-keeping she simply didn't care. Training is great but she's actually being paid to look after clients isn't she????
  12. I know MM - I'm just venting I dont really mean it. It's been a bad day so far (a la Tango thread)
  13. Garrrgghhh! I rang the vet early this am and confirmed that the visors had arrived. "yes" says the woman "a medium and a large" So I drove all the way there across ice covered mountain roads only to be told on arrival that they'd only just "checked the package" and the visors weren't in it!!!! Giggle Oooops! They might be in later or tomorrow she says!!!! The bloody woman then goes to walk off into the back room leaving me standing there. I called her back and asked her if she could at least help me measure tango's head properly as it's easier with two people so I would have a more accurate idea of the size he needs (for whenever they do actually arrive) She says "Sorry I'm in the middle of training for book-keeping so no I can't. Do it yourself". Oh of course! I wouldn't want to interrupt your TRAINING just for the sake of the proper care of my dog!!! Silly me! I was/am flabbergasted. Never has my flabber been so gasted!!!! There was no-one else there and she disappeared so I had no option but to get back in the car and drive all the way home again empty-handed. Petrol, stress, time, money - all wasted. And poor Tango has now busted the Buster collar even more so that there are jagged pieces and bits of masking tape over the whole thing. But I told her that, pointing out that I thought it was now dangerous for him to wear and she just said "Well can't you just take it off him and just watch him carefully???" Say what? ALL the time? Should I just not sleep? How freakin rude!!!!
  14. Disgusting isn't it! I can't believe the man has had no consequences for this horrendous crime. If he has a mental illness that bad he can do this to a puppy he should be locked up regardless. What is wrong with our "justice" system? ETA - bring on the 'disturbing backlash'
  15. Yeah I dunno mate - I think I'd be reluctant to do it to my dogs. I'd be inclined to do a lot of research and check it all out before making a decision. Especially one so young!!! Maybe give it more time with the dietery supplements/change and see if makes a difference. How long since you've put her on the supps and what else is she eating?? WHen Pepper has a problem I just express it myself and that's that really. You don't want to do it too often tho as that can make it even more difficult for them to express the glands naturally. I also read in my research on it that they need the glands to help them excrete so it seems it would have at least one major effect. But I don't know what the story is with your girl. I hope someone can help you.
  16. Hi there I just got a call from the bloke who invented the optivisor. He was very helpful and lovely to talk to. I'd sent him a pic of Tango in the Liz/Buster collar to give him an idea of his size and he said the Buster collar the vet put on him is way TOO BIG for Tango which is why he's having an extraodinarily difficult time of it. Anyway, I'll let people know how he goes with the optivisor or "novaguard" I think is it's proper name once I get it - for those who are interested LOL I hope someones interested hee hee otherwise I'm talking to myself - which is nothing new :D
  17. Kirty - Tango is already squashing the Eliz Collar against things and rubbing his eye. He is a resourceful fella. I'll see how it goes tomorrow but I sure hope it works because this other one certainly isn't. He's now broken it again, he's filled it with dirt, because dallys walk with their noses to the ground he can barely get two steps down the road without catching the cone on the ground and stumbling, he bashes into everything and has damaged furniture, the oven, Pepper and me. He can't sleep with it on properly, can't curl up, can't scratch his neck, he's getting rub rashes around his neck from it etc etc An absolute nightmare and there's no way we'll survive 2 weeks of this! It sticks out in front of his face about an inch which clearly makes it harder for him. Maybe it's too big or something. Seriously it's the worst contraption I've ever encountered so this other thing REALLY better work or I'll be asking for sedatives - for me!!!
  18. In case anyone's interested I thought I'd just mention that I've contacted the vet and they've never heard of them but the admin lady is ringing her "drug company" to see if they've got them and calling me back. Meanwhile I emailed provisor australia for help - don't know if that will get me anywhere but we're getting desperate here. Poor old pepper now has a cut on her face where Tango accidentally bashed the sharp edge of the collar into her. And the cone is now ......wait phone's ringing OH WOW! Just got a call from the vet and their supplier is bringing in two optivisors tomorrow - one medium and one large (we cant work out which he'll need!!!) so I can buy one. I am stunned and I can't wait to get it for him! Yay!!!! My vet rocks  And they don't cost much more than the usual cone thing.
  19. hey rappie Yeah - it's worth asking them I guess I also thought I'd email/call the company (it's owned by the aussie inventor I think) and see if they'll let me buy one directly
  20. I fed Pepper chicken wings from about 6 weeks old (when I rescued her) - then one day she swallowed it whole then gagged but before I could react she vomited it back up, looked at it in surprise (Like "Oh goody ANOTHER one!") and ate it again properly. I gave her bigger ones and whole carcasses from then on.
  21. awwww she is so cute and having a fantastic time!! Great pics!
  22. i had a highly allergic dog who did well on this. But each dog will be different. Try it and see
