Tango Made A Big Breakthrough - Updated
spottychick replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Would that be Satchmo? He looks like a character. Pepper has always snuggled in with two other dogs since she was a pup so she's had a hard time fathoming Tango's behaviour! ANd I always felt sad for her because it's all she wants to do. Plus it would help Tango stay warm if he'd snuggle with her. Loraine - and largely also down to training and persistence on Peppers part LOL :D -

OH MY GOD!! I knew after yesterday that this would be more likely to happen but I totally didn't expect it to be so soon. Just one day later!!! Look at THAT!!!! Sleeping together at last!!!!! I am absolutely thrilled!! It was so funny. First Pepper was in the bed and Tango climbed in so Pepper got out. So Tango got out too then got back in. So then Pepper waited and looked at me for a bit then she got back in and Tango got out. Then neither were in the bed for a minute hahahaha So then Tango got back in and Pepper climbed in next to him and Tango stayed!!! And so did Pepper!! And there they remain half an hour later. Both sound asleep! They've done it!! Shown each other trust!!! I'm all crying n stuff - such a sook - and dying to go to the loo but if I do they'll get up and the moment will be over....... -

Tango's At The Vets Tonight
spottychick replied to spottychick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes it has - he said it's been through about 3 major modifications since the first one he made. A lot of it's because people had trouble fitting it (still do apparently) but like I said once you get it right it's fantastic. And improvements to the shape and straps etc I actually got the old model from the vets - it was too big for him although Tasi thinks his newer Medium would fit him because it's slightly smaller (probably due to the streamlining) and just differently designed. The old one was all clear plastic and yes bulkier. It also had plastic straps and a buckle whereas now they have material straps with velcro. Much better. ANd the headrest is more flexible so you can squish it down a bit and make it more comfy. The one he's wearing in the pic is a "small/medium" and while it fits okay it's pushing up a little on the bottom of his ears so Tasi is making another one for him in the medium size to see if that fits better. Tango has a wide forehead but is quite narrow and long in the nose so it's hard to get the right size for him. It's possible that Tango just has a funny head LOL so neither of the standard sizes will fit him perfectly but it doesn't matter because he's okay with it as it is anyway. Tasi is very lovely. -

thanks kirst and ams - I'm just so gosh-durned proud of these two!! -
hmmm interesting. Maybe they just picked up the feeling of something being very different and were a bit freaked because they weren't sure what it was. I don't know if that made sense LOL but I know what I mean so that's all that matters eh!!!

Today I took the dogs for a walk and had the new eye-protecting visor on Tango. When we got home I thought I'd give him a break from wearing it so I took it off. THen I sat down to play on the puter while Pepper dozed off in the basket next to me. Tango was in another bed behind me when suddenly he decided he wanted to cuddle so he CLIMBED INTO PEPPER'S BED and sat looking at me. LMAO Pepper woke up and sort of slowly started to get out (which she usually does coz he barks at her and makes her move) but he just glanced at her and did nothing. So she stayed in the bed and WENT BACK TO SLEEP with Tango sitting next to her. I know this doesn't sound like much but for these two this a massive breakthrough - sleeping together is no longer a remote possibility. Tango stayed there with Pepper sleeping next to him for at least 20 minutes. I took some photos but I had difficulties LOL so they aren't very good and the darn flash kept going off because it was a bit overcast. Here he is giving me a rare lick with Pepper sleeping next to him 10 minutes later and she's still there and so is he!

Traning An Elderly Dog To Be Alone
spottychick replied to Pugmum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
awww poor little dear. I can understand your distress. Can I ask why another dog is out of the question? I'm not saying you should, just wondered what the reason is. I ended up getting another dog for my girl when both her 'family' members passed away within a year of each other. She was miserable without her buddies so I adopted the cutest psycho dog I could find LOL and I wont say it's been easy but I am glad I did it. -
Email sent to Marie Claire How appalling!!! I read that magazine - well no more!
-
Thats wonderful!! We're so lucky here to be able to wander off in any direction and find forest tracks to let the dogs run wild in. It's so difficult in the city and poor Tango would never get off his lead if we lived there. Great pic!!!

Hee hee! Very cute!

Triangle Of Temptation
spottychick replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ki k9 Just wanted to let you know that my dog Tango is still doing brilliantly on this programme and he will now sit without being tied anywhere at all and look into my eyes until I tell him he can get his food. The funny thing is that my other dog Pepper, who has never been formally trained at all but learnt her (good) behaviour from my other dogs, is now doing exactly the same thing even tho she never used to and I've not specifically trained her. In fact, she has learnt it with absolutely NO input from me to her directly. It actually took me a while to notice she was doing it at all so I have no idea how long she's been following the whole thing LOL It was just one day a couple of weeks ago when I was feeding them both in the kitchen and concentrating on Tango that I realised she was also staring at me and sitting nicely waiting for me to say "okay" to her LMAO Anyway, just thought you might find that interesting or amusing or something. -
Awww he's just a wee baby LOL He doesn't know what he's doing yet Even if the girls aren't accidentally hurting him they may be startling him or approaching him in a way that he's not comfortable with - that can happen even if the girls have the best of intentions. I've known my dogs to be wary of the energy of young girls sometimes LOL - not sure what it is. I doubt he thinks anything as sophisticated as "I'm more important" LOL As poodlefan says, it's far more likely to be some sort of instinctive self-protection than anything. If they want to move him, make sure they say his name first (in a happy tone) and call him, maybe just whistle him and/or have a treat in their hand to lure him away from wherever it is they want him to move from - all this can be done without physically handling him. And give him praise/pats when he moves too. They will (hopefully) find that once he's fully awake and knows nothing is wrong and a treats on offer they can touch him with no problems. ETA - Highly recommend the TOT programme
-
I used the TOT on my adopted dog and he is brilliant now - I started outside but now I can get him to do it inside too. The amazing thing is that my girl Pepper has just picked it up from watching me train Tango so now she waits and looks at me etc without ever having been specifically trained to do it. LOL She's such a suck That thread you've been directed to has lots of discussion including stuff about training inside.
-
Sick woman - and she'll be back amongst society before you know it.
-
Eagle Pack would be my choice. Failing that Natures Gift Biogest. Both are the healthiest and best companies I've been able to find so far for my dogs needs. There are an awful lot of threads on this topic in here tho so it might be worth doing a bit of a search (if you can get the search thingy to work - I seem to be completely unable to do that LOL)
-
dawwwwww what a lovely story! So glad they rescued him - "showered them with licks" - too sweet!
-
So sorry to hear about your beautiful horse.

Bugger, I was going to ask that. I think the Optovisor was on The Inventors (or New Inventors) a while ago and I did post here. The guy invented it because his dogs had continual problem with his eyes and needed protection. B*&^%y person in vet clinic. I'd report her . Hopefully the optovisor will do the trick. Ah there it is! I knew someone said sommat about The Inventors! MM I sent the inventor the link to my Flickr pics and he called me for the second time to give me advice about how to tweak the visor to make it fit even better. Seems like he's really devoted to helping dogs feel comfortable. -

Yeah you can actually get a couple of different alternatives to the Elizabethan 'collar-from-hell' these days. There's a blow-up donut one (someone mentions it in another thread) blow up collar which I looked at but wouldn't have helped with an eye surgery issue - plus knowing tango he'd probably manage to puncture it within minutes . There's also the Comfy Cone - a sort of stiff material one - but again this wouldn't have helped with Tango comfy cone (websites picked at random for illustration purposes only - I'm not recommending those sites in particular as I don't know them) I've also seen some others available in America/UK The optivisor is one of several inventions for dogs and horses by the same person (an Aussie) who appeared with it on The New Inventors or whatever that ABC show is called. He has another post-surgery shield one (piccies below) only the more recent models are more colourful (like the optivisor) and have a couple of other design improvements. Thanks for taking the time to look at my Flickr pics -
