LOL Sorry to any local residents but I have experience of the place and I just don't like it there - it actually has a funny "feel" to me - kinda spooky But seriously, (altho I sort of was being serious anyway) I hope it was just a reaction to the specific place that caused Boomers reaction and that there's nothing physically wrong!!

Hi to all Tasmanian Dolers I just wondered if anyone knew anything about the story on the news last night? THere was a big thing about there being a huge parvovirus outbreak in Tassie and they talked to the Tassie Dogs Home and the RSPCA who said something about how many dogs had been lost to it and then basically said everyone should rush out and get their dogs vaccinated or they could die a horrible painful death. I don't like to vaccinate unless it's absolutely necessary (eg I dont vaccinate annually any more) but if I thought there was a real and unusually high risk I would definitely consider it. So is this a beat up, a part of some general campaign or a genuinely unusually high outbreak that I should be worried about?

I was nearly killed by a spider that was in the hedges when I was clipping them. She had a nest in there and I accidentally stuck my hand in it. SHe was NOT a white tail or any of the "deadly" spiders. She was small, orange and black with white dots. I went into toxic shock due to the bite. The doctor said it was not because the spider was venomous but caused by the bacteria on it's fangs entering my blood stream. Still cant find out what kind of spider she was!!

Yep it does Tassie It's looking good today :D He's even got it open some of the time which I havent really seen much since he got here

True enough. Just brought him back from the vets. The stitches and wierd plastic things are out and they tested his eye - looks like the ulcer has healed. I'm not celebrating yet - I'll wait a couple of days coz it's all wierd at the moment, his third eyelid is swollen up. But I'm cautiously optimistic. If it's healed that will be such a relief. It's been going on for months with us trying to heal it - poor little guy! He's very happy to have both his eyes open again tho!!!

Yes it does, but only if the locally made/sourced dog food is actually made well. The problem is IMHO the better, healthier stuff is made in the US - well healthier until it's nuked on it's way here o' course Might have to stick with Nature's Gift if I buy commercial dog food

There was a whole stack of them got recalled at the same time over the Chinese rice with melamine in it (is that the right word??) a couple of years back. I seem to remember Eagle Pack being one of the very few that weren't using Chinese rice and therefore weren't recalled. oh here's something from EP on it - can't be bothered reading it as I'm too tired LOL but someone might find it interesting eaglepack

Oh for gods sake! When will they take serious action against these absolute cowardly psychos??? The last one who attacked "Bentley" was sent on home because he had a mental illness - and nothing was done about him or his likelihood of doing it again. I'm not sure what the point is of finding those responsible if nothing is done when they do!!!! Give the creeps to me and I'll make it worthwhile.

awww what a clever puppy!! It will be interesting to see how close these two get. Is todays effort the best we're gonna get or will they actually cuddle together. I noticed their bottom ends were just sort of almost touching LOL ooops no. We just had a mild altercation over the bed as I was typing. So it's not all smooth sailing just yet....

hmmmm yes, and I guess they're just unable to find strength within themselves to forgive and/or move on so they take out their frustrations on some other creature, like a friendly forgiving dog - says a lot about the people AND dogs. But anyway, just thought I'd mention, yesterdays exciting moment wasn't at all a one-off. Look what I found when I walked into the kitchen earlier ... I woke them up unfortunately because a second before they looked awesomely peaceful. Note the blue blanket to the right which is a second bed they've both ignored.

Thanks fran, melissa and tassie - he is worth all of it VC It always amazes me how forgiving dogs and other animals can be of even the most cruel treatment. And yes, dallys can be the most tolerant! It's why I don't understand anyone who deliberately treats animals badly - they must be sick individuals IMHO But they're safe now, so congrats to you!!

Yep VC - it sure is!! Tango is a delight really - he has had one go at me since the operation but I totally put that down to the effects of the op as it happened the night after when he was still groggy and had that stupid satelite dish on his head and I was just giving him a pat when he was in his bed - always something to be wary of LOL But otherwise he lets me stick gunk in his eye, wipe it dry with tissues (while it's healing atm), take that visor thing off AND put it back on. He doesn't want to wear it even tho it's better than the other one, but he wont run away when he knows I'm going to put it on him - he will actually sit and look at me all resigned to his fate and let me put it on him. Mind you, he knows he'll get a treat after so maybe that has something to do with it LMAO. But seriously, I can't believe what a well-behaved dog he generally is Read your thread BTW - She's a sweety!

I don't know if this will help you but when I started this with Tango he did something similar. I reckon the main thing I did that got to him was I gave him no response at all. I did this very silent (but not threatening) thing where I'd just walk out with the food, walk over and place it somewhere and go over to him. If he was looking around, looking at the food, intermittently trying to chase butterflies or anything that moved near him (which he did a lot at first LOL He was so easily distracted) or generally carrying on I would give him no interaction. I'd just stand next to (or slightly behind him) and wait for him to work out what to do or I'd just quietly go over and move the bowl further away or whatever without giving him any verbal corrections or praise. The only time I'd respond is when he settled down, sat and then looked into my eyes!!! THen he'd get a softly spoken "Yes!!" and I'd try to convey lots of quiet praise with my face and body language - but not touch him. It was the wierdest thing for me at first, to not go "ah" when he was leaping about on the end of his lead, or say Good boy! when he sat etc, just this very quiet time (almost like meditation!!) where it was all about him figuring out what to do next without me telling him. Quite amazing the effect it had on him. Hopefully I'm not steering you wrong with any of this - I'm no expert. It's just what worked for me.

Awww the dear little thing. I love the pic of her curled up on that little rug. And she looks very settled in in the other pics. That one of them waiting for food reminded me so much of my two. Stick with her VC - I've been amazed at what patience and perseverence has done with tango And looks like you've already done so much in a very short space of time!!!

Hey scarlet - yes it did all seem so insurmountable a few months ago - even to me!!! Tango has come such a long LONG way, more than I could have hoped for! Mind you, Pepper always seemed to have less of an issue with it all than anyone LOL It was like she's always had this approach of " Aaawwww sooner or later this odd new spunky dude will get over whatever it is that's making him so :D and be all nice n stuff and then we can be bestest buddies of anyone ever and sleep together and run off into the forest and eat smelly disgusting things and swap stinky breath and get mud all over the floor when we get home and play tug with mums slippers and ... and ..... and ........ all sorts of rooly kewl things!!!!!" Seriously, I'm certain she'd talk like that if she could talk.
