  1. Love it - also not used as their main diet but useful for my stone-former as part of his overall diet and I use it for emergencies. I also use the semi-dry kibble as treats etc and to help build up the boy's weight
  2. You could give Nature's Gift Biogestion kibble a try. It's semi-dry or semi-moist or whatever they call it LOL It's not a "premium" brand but I've heard very good things about NG and they are Australian and not too expensive. Might be worth trying a small pack and see how they go. It's in most local supermarkets.
  3. Well maybe I should just go and adopt him so I can get some pics of him from different angles......
  4. LOL I've just spent god knows how long on google images checking out blue merles and Aussies and I can't pick what he is - but I think I've fallen in love with all of them - they have the best faces hahahahaha
  5. But given that dog's don't have the ability to be vain, why do they like to rub scents all over them? Coz its FUN!!!!!
  6. Oh my god! What a tragic story. That poor little dog, the poor man - just terrible. I wish they'd punish idiots like that more appropriately. It's enough that this all happened to an innocent little dog - imagine if a person had been involved - and it so easily could have happened..... just horrible
  7. Oh sorry! He's still there. THe link is wierd - you have to click on the "view Devonport Dogs" link at the top to get to the right page. I can't get a direct link to anything but the introduction adoption page. Yes there are some stunners in their photos and someone does a great job of taking them! I hate going to that site LOL coz I want to adopt almost all of the little cuties! Thanks for the breed thoughts folks! I didn't know there was a "merle" BC Very beautiful! I agree haylz - Calista (who I think is on the Hobart link) is gorgeous. ETA I'm pretty sure that if a dog does disappear from the site it means the dog was adopted They seem like a great animal shelter from my dealings with them
  8. Sorry - I wasn't quite sure where to put this but I was just gob-smacked by this dog. I was looking at Tassie pound/shelter sites in response to someone's lost dog post and accidentally found this stunning looking fella. (Unfortunately I also found a gorgeous dally girl who now I also can't stop thinking about) Anyway this dude takes the cake! I have never seen any dog that looks quite like him before - have you? Is he really a border collie cross?? Any experts out there? What kind of dog would he be crossed with to look like that? THis is the website link (You have to click on the devonport link at the top of the page and then scroll down to find "George") Dogs Home Tas Those pink nose bits crack me up. He just looks totally adorable!!!
  9. Hee heee. It's always the pretty ones who do it in my experience. My sweet, ladylike, pretty girl dally rolls in everything - the smellier the better. Yet none of my male dogs did or do it and neither did my other girl who was a lot tougher and less "prissy" generally than Pepper-the-smelly! I used to find Guiness and Pepper both with a dead animal, Guiness scoffing down as much of the foul stuff as he could while Pepper joyfully rolled around in whatever he hadn't managed to shovel into his gob yet. THey BOTH smelled appalling! I think it's supposed to be about survival - but it doesn't look like it. She seems to think she looks and smells like a million bucks after she's done it! Attracting the opposite sex perhaps??? LOL I dunno but she always gets surprised that I don't want to cuddle her - and darts around and leaps at me like I must be just playing a game with her "coz surely I'm completely irresistable now!"
  10. My dogs adore cooked pumpkin (actually they'll even snaffle up raw pumpkin if I drop a bit while cutting it up!). If there's any turning up of noses maybe just add a little broth for taste and smell. MY god that's huge tho - my dally was about that weight when I picked him up - admittedly he was way underweight but it's hard to imagine a little dog that heavy!
  11. Great stuff. THen I clicked on this related vid link and ended up bawling my eyes out
  12. awww don't feel like that Brennans mum - of course you have the right - and I for one appreciate your input.
  13. I would assume that whatever be the reason behind poisoning the dogs, the perpetrators themselves would be 'less than pleasant' if they feel it's ok to hurt animals who don't know better. Of course! I would still proceed with caution and take steps to safe-guard my dogs in this situation but I wouldn't panic and assume that because some creep allegedly poisoned another creeps dogs they will automatically do the same to mine. The neighbour is just making assumptions that may or may not be correct. My main purpose was to take some of the stress out of the situation that's all.
  14. Mine are in between - dalmatians. I wouldn't leave them inside ALL day without a break tho - I have been known to come home around lunch time and take them for a BIG walk then put them back inside and go back to work (LOL a bit exhausting but kept me fit). They were usually fine because they just slept while I was gone. I don't know what other bigger dogs would be like tho. And it's not ideal. I actually only did this when I rented a house with inadequate fencing until I could get the fencing fixed. Other times I actually leave them ACCESS to the inside while I'm away but they can also hang around outside.
  15. Hi Jed - another one not posting much but checking in on you and think about you a lot. You have so much to deal with - I wish I could help in some way :p
  16. Hey kirsty! I can understand your concern and if I was you I'd be trying to find a way to make sure my dogs were safe too. But I did just want to mention a couple of things. 1. It's important to note that your neighbour said the people whose dogs were poisoned were "less than pleasant" - so bear in mind the poisoning may have been related to something else and not a usual occurence in your neighbourhood. Who knows what kind of enemys they made or for what reasons. You - on the other hand - don't seem "less than pleasant" so you and your dogs are less likely to attract such a nasty attack. 2. It sounds like the neighbours tried very hard to resolve the dog issue with these people so if they had a problem with your dogs they will let you know and be open to discussing it with you 3. I had a similar thing happen when I moved to Mildura years ago. More than one neighbour told me about another neighbour's dogs being poisoned. Yet, even tho my dallies barked a bit when I was at work, I got nothing but friendly responses to them from everyone in the area. I suspect, again, that the poisoning was either something the dog owner made up (for god knows what reason) or related to something else as he was also "less than pleasant". I just mention these things because I know what its like and I wouldn't want you to stress too much. Like others have said, talk to your neighbours about your dogs and let them know you are a reasonable dog owner and willing to ensure everyone's okay with your dogs. If you can let them be inside at all that will help. Mine are fine about being left indoors for a while.
  17. hmmm I dont know what to think of all that! What exactly is polar fleece made of anyway?
  18. Yes I agree with the dash of milk thing. My dog won't drink water AT ALL!! I have never come across anything like it. I think I've seen him actually drink plain water 3 times since I adopted him (might have something to do with why he developed stones with his other "owners"). I use a few different things to make the water taste more like "food" and a dash of milk is a sure fire winner. Also, do you keep the water in a plastic bottle when you travel? Some dogs detect the taste of the plastic - maybe try a different kind of container (plastic is bad anyway apparently). I have a really groovy metal water bottle (with a cute lizard on the side) that I use when I'm out and about.
  19. Well I would hope so! It's just about doing me in!!
  20. I agree this is not a good look from Dr Harry - who people admire and respect. It effects attitudes towards pet ownership of all dogs, tho especially small ones. He should know better.
  21. Hmm thanks for responding oakway. You're probably right. There didn't seem to be much in the way of actual evidence (even anecdotal) of parvo except in the kennels at RSPCA etc - they mentioned how the virus loves cold climates but I've never heard anyone talk of any exceptional risk in Tassie before. I also thought my vet would have told me if there was a concern given that I've just spent weeks dealing with her re Tango! Just thought I'd ask in case someone knew anything in particular.
