Success! And Another New Experience
spottychick replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh Hi staycalm. It's lovely to know that people have taken an interest in him from way back then. Last New Years Eve in fact is when he arrived and totally disrupted our lives :D What a journey it's been since then ETA - there was a period of time when I wasn't at all sure I'd done the right thing by any of us! -

OMG! He is brilliant. I am so impressed, how did you train him? Are you using TOT? He is still cute I tells ya! -

And this one!!! I was so surprised when I walked into the lounge room and saw this! This is down to Pepper and her bravery. It looks to me like she's decided she'll risk him biting/snapping at her and climbed in with him and he doesnt care at all LOL -

Awwww that's nice of you two to say so I just thought you might like to see these pics. They are special and show the extreme progress this boy has made. Our new doggy crate. No probs with hopping in it even tho pepper was already in there :D He sleeps in it over night too. -
And one more with Pepper asleep and a bit closer in.

And this is taken tonight. Again more cushions and blankets than dogs really LOL But the most exciting thing is BOTH of them got in together - for the second time tonight. So happy to see them like that. :D Doesn't Tango look cosy - even without a blanket over him. But there is an awful lot of spare space in there hee hee (unlike in my lounge room )

Well bizarrely, the camera/phone seems to have risen from the dead! So I have some pics!! :D (Still gonna get a new camera and/or phone tho) Here's one I took when we'd just got it and Pepper wasted no time getting in it. (Sorry about the poor quality) There are cushions in it and I was trying to put the garish minky in but Pepper pushed in before I'd got it in properly LOL

Oh My God I wish my camera worked. I just noticed both dogs are in the crate. There's about a foot of space between them but that is fantastic!! They are so starting to trust each other. There is another bed in here LOL but they both ingored it. They must really love that crate. Yippadee doo dah!!! I swear I will have them curling up together properly by the end of the year hee hee

CW EW - yes, I agree, there is a difference. My old dog who licked the rescue dogs ear stitches did not do it obsessively. Only when it looked like it needed cleaning up - and then very gently. Lick granulomas are from constant licking and they also chew on the spot which makes it worse. One of my dogs had a constant issue with a lick granuloma so yeah, I know what you mean.

I think that's a rude and insulting post derRottweiler - not to mention completely without basis. I used to run a house cleaning business and some of the cleanest homes I worked in had dogs inside. On the other hand I have experienced many a slovenly unhygienic home where the unfortunate family dog is tied up outside in a mud pit looking filthy. But those are both generalisations, just like your comment - and ultimately mean nothing because how people are about cleanliness has little to do with owning pets. Fact is, people will be unhygienic and untidy in their homes whether or not there's a dog inside. And many people who do have dogs inside, myself included, are actually even more vigilant about cleanliness and hygeine because the dogs are there. What else do you mean by "not big on hygiene"???? Dog owners don't wash themselves? Have bad teeth???? Wear the same clothes for weeks on end? Seriously - what sort of comment is that to make? I wouldn't leave my dogs outside. They are sociable animals and want to protect me. They can't do that if they're stuck outside (especialy if they're tied up or in a dog run) As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be here today ranting on this forum if I had kept my previous dalmatian outside.

It's a little 3mp Konica Minolta digi camera about 5 years old - it's small enough to pop in your pocket. Being 5 years old it only has a small screen on it but it has movie mode with sound, and it has a great optical zoom which you don't find in a lot of digi cameras. It has a black and white mode and a sepia mode ...... It takes fantastic macro shots ..... will see if I can find a pic ..... Sorry to go OT!!! Can you PM me please

Police Dog Bites Boy, 8, During Search Of House
spottychick replied to zoepuppy's topic in In The News
I cant believe how many idiots are commenting on that story that the dog is "dangerous" and therefore should be put down. It's a POLICE DOG!!!! Of course it's dangerous FFS. Which is completely different to a domestic dog who savages people indiscriminately. The dog didn't savage the kid - he just grabbed his leg and held him - exactly as he's been trained to do. No loss of control or aggression here. If they put that dog down they might as well destroy all police dogs. All of them would have done the same thing. -
Years ago I rescued a dalmatian boy then moved to Sydney and on the flight over the boy apparently banged his ear into the cage and ended up with a haematoma on his ear. I had it operated on and brought him home with stitches and antibiotic cream. As soon as he walked in the girl started sniffing his ear and from then on kept licking it - even tho I'd try to stop her. They would lie together and she'd fuss over him LOL and lick his face and ear. I took him back to the vet a week or so later and mentioned the licking and asked if I should keep her away. The vet said NO! He told me that the ear had healed a lot more than he had expected and that she was speeding up the process. He even said the antibiotic cream was not needed and to let her take care of it. SO I've always understood that they lick wounds (peoples and dogs and even cats if they're close to them) because they are trying to fix them. And that they do have some sort of antibiotic properties in their saliva. Having said that, while I wouldn't be too concerned at the occassional lick or a lick on a small graze, I wouldn't be letting a dog lick a serious wound. Note also that dogs will suss out cancer in people - it's part of that instinct to heal.

Weed/grass Killer Around Dogs.
spottychick replied to Kayla and Zoe's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would try to keep them away from any kind of chemical weed killer for at least 24 hours. I tried the boiling water thing and while it kills the leaves it does not kill the entire plant in my experience. They just kept growing new leaves and shoots and I had to resort to digging them out where possible and chemicals where I couldn't get them out. -
LOL Must have been one hell of a good-loooking bone!! Sorry - shouldn't laugh. I would be a little concerned about it too if I was you. I have no idea what went on there.

Yes I will but the phone really is dead. I don't understand why - it's only new. Must be the battery. Anyone got a point and shoot camera going cheap???? Or a mobile phone with a camera...... Might go check out some bargain sites. Thats a great shot shellsboers!! What a gorgeous big boofa! I might be able to help you with a camera .... dpeneds what you want and what you are prepared to pay! You might prefer to get a new phone with a camera ...... hmmmmm what have you got in mind. I used the phone more as a camera than a phone LOL Due to mobile coverage issues here ;) Roflmao those photos of Kuma are too much

poochiemama I would be cautious too after that experience. I was walking my dogs down my own street and a dog rushed out from a yard and latched onto my girl once. I never went in that direction with the dogs again. I am in the habit now of checking streets without the dogs if I plan on walking down them and sussing out the dog situation. So it's not just parks these kinds of things can happen in. I guess you can't protect them against every eventuality but you can take precautions. As for helping her stay cool about other dogs, it's not too hard especially with a younger dog. Just try not to let your nerves communicate to your dog when another dog is around. Walking your dog when no other dogs are around is a good idea but I agree you need to find other dogs for yours to socialise with. I make friends with other dog owners and find out what their dogs are like whenever I move somewhere new. I've only been in this town a couple of months or so and we already have several doggy friends that my dogs socialise with and go for walks with. I don't know what else you can do. Maybe enrol in a dog obedience class so she gets to be around dogs in a more controlled environment. Or put up ads looking for dog owners with sociable dogs to have get togethers with. Hopefully, altho it was horrible and scarey, this experience might make her more wary of rushing up to other dogs in the future so I guess that might be a positive, as long as it hasn't made her wary of all dogs. Wish you were in Tassie - I'd be happy to set up play dates with my two friendly dalmatians.

It depends on what state the spot is in and what the immediate need is. Manuka honey is good. It can actually kill nasties and will assist with healing. It's good for drawing out infection too. Aloe vera straight from the plant (so it has no addded potential irritants) will seal and heal the wound as well as sooth any heat/irritation and paw paw (the original Lucas one) will speed healing and minimise scarring. I use all three and sometimes have to try one and see if it's helping and switch to another if it's not.

Awesome. You'll probably be able to fit all of Kuma's puppy class in that crate That's the one I got. Tango fits into one corner and looks at the rest of it like "What in the heck am I supposed to do with all that space!!!" I got a bit carried away! It wont fit through my doorways without collapsing it hee hee

Oh my god they are all stunningly gorgeous! You lucky thing you!!! I love LOVE that third picture down! hahahahahahaha Those eyes!!!
