  1. I'm sure Pepper will teach him cuddling!!! And a whole lot of other things hopefully - as for Tango - we don't want puppy learning anything from him!!! I love to see squishy-faced dogs cuddling
  2. Awwwwwww! Wait for the puppy disaster stories - that might cure you
  3. Ahhhh - is that since it became compulsory here? Or has that been the case for a while. It has been compulsory to microchip for a year or so now. Not ALL dogs, that comes in in July NEXT year, but certainly for TCA registration all puppies must be chipped or they won't be registered. Oh ok, I thought it became compulsory THIS year LOL. They must be gearing up for it. I was walking my dogs a few weeks ago and was accosted (in a friendly way) by the local Council Ranger (I've just moved here) who asked if my dogs were registered here. I said not yet and he told me about the vet doing discounted microchipping in Sept. He suggested I wait till then and get them registered after that because it would be cheaper. He was patting my dogs and told me about the golden retriever he had in the back of his van who is constantly running loose in the town. He said he knows the owner and he's reluctant to take action but "this can't keep happening!!' Apparently it's a very friendly GR "A lovely dog" is how the ranger described it. What a nice ranger.
  4. I agree. Sometimes a name pops into your head when you know you are going to pick up a dog, but generally it is good to wait and see. But just for fun . . . . . Pepper is a spice Tango is a dance Rumba is a spicy dance - LOL. LOL MM - I hang out on a forum full of dance-sport enthusiasts (I am not a dancer tho) so they would love that!!! They were partly responsible for Tangos name as it was one in a list I gave them and they voted for it.
  5. Well done Liz!!! That's the way to do it My dream is to open a Pet Shop near here and link people who want to buy pets to the animal shelters. I have some fab ideas about other alternative stuff for the shop too LOL Now I just need money to make it happen!
  6. Ahhhh - is that since it became compulsory here? Or has that been the case for a while. ETA When I spoke to the owner he said when he picked up Scruffy from the breeder he was covered in fleas and filthy - that's probably another clue My dogs rarely have any problem with fleas! He also said he took the pup to a pet shop to find out what to do about the fleas and they "took him out the back and sprayed him with something" to get rid of the fleas. I've never heard of such a thing. I wish I knew what they sprayed the poor fella with.
  7. :D Oh lordy, he hasn't even arrived and the stories are coming. What a treat we are in for !!! Glad they entertain someone 'sides meself LOL I have some puppy pics of Pepper somewhere but darnded if I can find them. These are the closest I've got. She wasn't fully grown but not a little puppy. I think she's about 9 months old in them. The other two dogs have now gone over the bridge in the last 2 years. This is what Pepper misses All those cuddles. These three almost never slept separately.
  8. Hmmmm Hunter is good. I don't know that he'd be used to his name yet so it might not matter if he has a new name that sounds like his old one or not. I figure a name might jump out at me when I see him. I also have to try not to get too excited in case Tango doesn't react well. I don't think there'll be a problem but I can't rule it out yet.
  9. LOL Yes, he was rather embarassed when I asked what his name was. I suspect the daughter named him. Not sure when he's getting here yet. I'm having trouble getting to where he is so his owner is working out if he can drive the pup over here. I'm guessing that would be the weekend as he works during the week. If not then I'll try to get up to him. The free microchipping thing is open on Sunday (without appointments) so I'm aiming for that. But it depends on my car and a few other things ;) Yeah .... I guess I'm a BIT excited.... hee hee - mixed with a fair dose of "WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?????!!!" My neighbour is more excited than I am. She keeps asking me if he's here yet hahahaha I guess I should give some thought to what he might need. It's been years since I had a pup - that would be Miss Pepper. She wrecked one of my favourite dolls I've had since I was 2 (ran off up the corridor and out the back door with housemates standing around unhelpfully yelling "The spotty dingos got your baby!!!") and the inside plastic parts of my food processor. :D
  10. Yes he definitely needs a new name. Whoever heard of a dally named Scruffy! Humph! How insulting! No wonder he's naughty hee hee Duffy would be better if he was a she - I actually really like the singer Duffy Doofus??? Hee heee :D Might have to wait till I see him. See if I'm inspired.
  11. So glad to hear it. I would be seriously looking for one of those breastplates if he was mine!!! When I think about Tango leaping across fallen trees all through the forest...... eeeek!!! Maybe I should get dally ones.
  12. Awwww I love that pic of him with his mate getting warmed up Too cute
  13. Thanks for the explanation adnil!! I have to say - training or not, when I got Tango he would not have been able to be taken for walks without the harness. To me if someone wants to use a no pull harness and doesn't also get in a trainer - at least the dog is being taken for a walk. Tango was trained with treats etc but it was impossible to do that when I just had him on the collar. Once I had a bit more control of him it was all easier.
  14. That sporn harness is certainly different. Can someone post any other pics of it - I'm finding it hard to see how it works.
  15. I second the front attaching harness - from experience it works well. But have now been able to move my dog on to a collar. I used one called Easywalker (I think that's right).
  16. You never know Skruffy!!! It might be Incidentally - did I mention his current name is "Scruffy"????
  17. Thanks Ellz. This owner can't remember the name of the breeder and can't find the info he had about him. I think it was someone around St Leonards area. I sure hope it's not the one you mentioned!!!
  18. One of the things I always stressed to people looking to adopt a dog, from anywhere, is that you have to consider your existing family: people and dogs and other animals. I have consistently not listened to my own advice and my dogs have suffered and I have not had problem dogs. The situation this little dog is in is heartbreaking because if he doesn't get out soon and into a home where he is loved, inside and trained and his emotional needs met, the chances he will become a difficult, destructive and unhappy dog are enormous. Tango has come such a long way and all you have done for him and with him and what he has achieved show him to be an extraordinary dog and you an extraordinary person. You have reached the stage where you can let Tango off leash (albeit with heart in mouth and wonderging whether he is going to come back ) and for Tango to have reached that stage is such an act of love and confidence and trust on his part. Only you can decide, spottychick, and whatever you do, you will have the support of DOLers. Thanks MM If there is a real problem with tango I will find a way to deal with it I reckon. But honestly, his attitude to other male dogs seems to be getting better and better. Yesterday he was hanging out with a huge Irish Wolfhound - intact 18 mth old male with no issues. Even tho the Wolfhound initially growled at him!! I just spoke to the owner and he told me why he knocked back the other person who was interested in him. APparently this guy said things like "Oh if he misbehaves like that I'll just push his head into the ground - I'll soon show him whose boss" and "I use a stick to stop bad behaviour" etc. He said he told him he didn't like the way he was talking about treating this dog and he'd rather give him to the other person who's interested (me) than sell him to him. LOL Funnily enough the other bloke got a bit angry hee hee He also asked my advice on what he should feed him while he's still there so that was a nice thing too. I don't think these owners are bad at all - just clueless about dallys. The pup sounds very intelligent and like he's going to be a handful hee hee. He said he'd tried to stop him pulling washing off the line by tying some garbage bags full of water on the line (not a bad strategy!). Sure enough the pup leapt up and grabbed one of the bags and water flooded all over him. HAHAHAHA But guess what!! The dude LOVED IT! And went looking for more garbage bags full of water to bust open. hee hee He was biting at the water when it came out, leaping around in the shower of water and having a fabulous time!! :D Well that's just great! He's trained him to love attacking stuff on the washing line! He also said he doesn't sook or whine much but he does "knock" on the door a lot. Hmmmmm And he doesnt seem interested in getting out of the yard, just getting into the house (makes sense to me!) Anyway - we're just working out a way to meet etc and it looks like he doesn't want to charge me any money to take the puppy. So................. looks like I have a new little friend coming to stay a while.
  19. You know a piccie is mandatory in this thread
  20. I bloody hope it's on the "cusp of a new era". But it will take a lot to convince me and many others I suspect. Unimpressed as always. Thank Dog we have the Tassie Dogs Home.
  21. Awww! Dear old thing looks so content. But what's that big hairy thing to the left?? Wrong person LMAO Ooops sorry - that was meant for Happy Feet
  22. not the same puppies at all. I think Grandma is after some money
