Should I Or Shouldn't I? Any Thoughts Appreciated.
spottychick replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Okay - so about yesterday.... (sorry this post is going to be a bit epic. Don't feel obliged to read it all LOL) First off, a bit of context. I was actually just starting to worry about my dogs attitude toward the puppy and wondering if I had done the wrong thing by the pup because my two were being constantly aggressive towards him. So yesterday morning my day begins at 5 am when I am rudely woken up by the fact that my face is fully squashed into the bedside table and I can't breathe!!! It takes me a few moments to work out that I have a dog practically buried in the back of my head/neck area and another one buried in my back and I'm almost being pushed right off the side of my bed!! Turns out to be Dylan on my head and HIS head is snuggled so deeply into me that if I moved it seemed to move with me - not that I had much room to move to!!! It WAS bone-chillingly cold last night so I guess Dylan and Pepper were being sneaky heat-seeking missiles. As it is freezing and I'm awake anyway, I make a cuppa, climb back into bed to read for a while and Pepper and Dylan get under the blankets together while Tango snuggles into my legs. Ahhhh so cosy! Anyway, fast forward to later that day: ... the neighbours teenage son ("the Troll" according to his mum) came over to mow my lawn. After a great deal of mowing I called the Troll over for a milo and cheezel break (his request!) and we sat on the deck with Pepper chewing on a bone, Tango dozing on the trampoline bed behind her and Dylan playing with his new chew toy on the grass in front of us. Now I don't know if words can do justice to what happened next but I'll give it a try - apologies for how long this will probably be!!! Dylan suddenly starts "barking". Now Dylan barking is a laugh-fest in itself. I wish I could do sound here. It's this sort of long-winded high-pitched sort of run-together yapping. It sounds like he's talking - or rather - a whiney child nagging. Like: "Awww come on...... I'm so BORED !!!! 'n I'm sick to death of this stupid chew toy why can't you get off your lazy bottoms and play with me for heavens sake, what's a guy gotta do......" etc etc Seriously he just goes on and on and it gets louder and louder until Tango, still lying on the bed, lets out this massively loud BARK! Like "SHUDDUP WOULD YA!!!". SO Dylan stops for a second, wriggles on the ground slightly and then starts up again - only this time he throws in a pretend "attack" at Tango and darts off slightly still naggin his fool head off. Pepper continues chewing and completely ignores him. Tango sets up a growly barky thing. Dylan keeps going on and on and doing "dare-ya" darts at Tango getting closer and closer. Troll and I are in fits of laughter. This truly was hilarious to watch and I keep saying "Dylan - you're gonna get hurt!!!" while I'm laughing. Dylan just keeps going - upping the ante every time. We're doing a running commentary and Troll does Dylan - it gets to Dylan "saying" - "Oi! Poo-spots!!!! I double dare ya!!" Suddenly it's ON! Tango flies out of the bed snarling and putting on his scariest display. Troll and I jump out of our skins and Dylan takes off at great speed with his bum down. legs tumbling everywhere! Tango flies after him all snarls and vicious barking. Dylan hides behind the car. Tango comes back huffing and mumbling, doing u-turns, gets halfway back and Dylan pops his head around the car, Tango stops, runs back barking and circling at him (Dylan disappears again) then returns to us and gets back into bed. He has this "There. I've sorted that little upstart" attitude. Troll and I - :D :D Seconds later - Dylan comes flying back - DOES IT ALL OVER AGAIN. Tango is totally pushed to the edge and flies at him again. Dylan takes off with Tango in hot pursuit and they race around the car then over to the open lawn area where Dylan starts doing zoomies and prancing like a young colt - teasing Tango who by this time has completely lost it. It's like Dylan is going "nya nya nya you cant catch me" and Tango is all "Right you little creep! You're toast". Troll says: "Dylan thinks this is the best game ever!!!!! hahahahahahhaa" This happens all over again at least 2 more times. LMAO Each time Tango sounds more scarey and Dylan just seems to get more arsey in response! Note - not once did Dylan display ANY aggression toward Tango. Just cheek! But interestingly, Tango never actually catches him - even tho I'm quite sure he could!! So, just as Troll and I are trying work out if Tango is ever really gonna hurt Dylan OR Tango actually doesn't have it in him to hurt him at all and concluding that we think Tango is secretly enjoying himself - Tango comes trotting back grumbling away and gets back on his bed with a "humph!". Dylan follows close behind at top speed, big smile on his face - full of the joy of life - takes a flying leap up on the deck, miscalculates and lands squarely on Pepper's back!!! She catapults off the floor snarling, pins him down in a flash and bites him - HARD! Dylan screams and runs over to me and sooks into my arms. :D It was such a SURPRISE - we had actually completely forgotten Pepper! Troll and I just lost it and were in tears of laughter. Anyway, that momentarily put a stop to things and Dylan sort of lay down and nodded off for a while. One more thing happened that adds to this. Trolls mum came over for a coffee and saw some of this. Later we were sitting in the kitchen chatting over coffee when Dylan started up his nagging/teasing again. Tango snarled and flew at him but Dylan had nowhere to go so he got caught by Tango against the door just behind Trolls mum. I heard Dylan let out this blood-curdling scream like he'd been seriously injured. I was about to react when my neighbour said - "Wait! Tango didn't even touch him" Hahahahahaha She was laughing and said "He just lunged at Dylan growling and Dylan screamed and carried on like a pork chop". I just had to laugh at that and wondered how many times I've thought one of my dogs actually hurt him when it was really just him being a big baby!!!! So that's the days entertainment. WHen my neighbours left they thanked me for the comedy show. Hee heee. I wish I'd got it on film but I hope I got across how funny it was in words anyway. The main thing for me is that I feel much MUCH more confident about all these dogs being together. I really don't think Tango is going to hurt Dylan and I think Tango is finally getting it that NO-ONE is out to hurt him. I think what happened yesterday is as far as Tango will ever go (at least while Dylan is still a pup). Pepper is now playing with him occassionally (they are play bowing at each other as I type) and only puts him in his place now and then. And I actually think Tango and Pepper are happier since this little bundle of mischief arrived here. Bringing the puppy into the mix seems to me to be having a very positive effect on them both. -

Harley - they were hilarious today and one or two interesting developments. But I might leave it till tomorrow to write about it because I am REALLY tired. Suffice to say they kept a couple of visiting neighbours laughing and highly amused the whole time they were here, particularly Dylan - he really is funnier than a bucket of farts Thanks for asking! ;) -
Tasmanian Dolers Beware - Snakes Out Already - Rip Molly Dog
spottychick replied to Tassie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh....... but that is a beautiful snake shaar. It looks like the black one with a red belly I almost walked into in my backyard a few years ago. It was only about a metre away from me and my dogs. Fortunately they stayed when I told them to and the snake looked at us but just went on it's way. I actually felt more admiration than fear once I knew the dogs were safe. He was really stunning!!! Looks like he was bigger than that one tho. He was about 3 foot long I think. -

Oh thats shocking! Especially as it's in a built up area. That poor lady and dog. I have seen a couple around here already but I'm well and truly in rural tas - still, a little unexpected this early and in this weather. The trouble is, there really isn't anywhere to walk the dogs that doesn't have a risk of snakes. In fact one of the snakes that we spotted was in the yard of the house behind me. -

A book? Crikey! When would I get the time!!! -
 Oh THAT tornado. Thought it only happened in tassie :p I agree with your comment btw My girl Pepper will ALWAYS do that stuff even when it's another dog that's in trouble. She just HATES it when I'm in any way giving off angry/frustrated etc vibes, no matter how subtle I'm trying to be. Tango, on the other hand, wouldn't notice if my head actually exploded - he'd still be tap-dancing in the kitchen hoping for a treat.

What is osso bucco? I get all my raw meaty stuff for dogs from butchers. I have two near here and a mobile butcher who travels around Tassie in a refrigerated van dispensing meat. My dogs get off cuts where possible and ground up chicken frames as well as whole frames and wings from the mobile butcher . I can also pick up free beef bones from the butcher in a little town near here (if there's any left!!!) They also sell Beef tails and ox tails. But I can't feed them that meat too often being dalmatians and prone to stone-forming. I would like to vary things and give them a bit of lamb - I used to buy them cheap lamb flaps - but it's pretty much impossible to get here these days. My butcher said they don't sell them anymore because (a) hardly anyone buys lamb these days due to expense and (b) if they do kill a sheep they use every last scrap of the meat for people food and will use the flaps etc to make sausages. THe problem is lamb is TOO expensive so they make every bit count. However, I did manage to scam some lamb bones off them today and pork bones which is rare. The other butchers are finding out if they can get me some turkey necks. I never buy meat from pet shops and I'm not sure what "premium pet mince" is  -

We just had a van load of Chinese tourists pull up outside my house. People often stop there because it has a fantastic view down to the town and over the hills/forest around it. ANYway. I heard Tango bark a couple of times so they must have looked into my yard. They completely forgot about the view and were all ooohing and ahing at my spotty dogs who were looking out at them. I walked out to see what was going on to be confronted by a dozen still and movie cameras pointing at me! Tango had gone back to chewing on a bone and Pepper was sort of standing there wagging her tail. But Dylan was literally POSING!!! I kid you not! I took Pep and Dylan through to the front gate where they would be closer. Then I tapped the top of a concret pillar that's just next to my front gate (about 3 - 4 foot high) and Dylan immediately put his front paws on it and stretched his neck up all beautiful and charming and touched noses with me. Made quite a magnificent picture - they clearly thought he was trained to do that and made all these "wow impressive" noises hahaha Little do they know. It was so cute. They were jabbering away in Chinese and I wished I'd paid more attention in Uni when I was learning it I said hello and stuff in Chinese - about the extent of what I remember hee he and then in English I said - "He's a puppy" and they all looked confused so I said "Baby!" and a young woman translated the word to them so they all went "Ahhhhhhhh awwwwwww *giggle giggle**" Then they headed over to the other side of the road - I thought they were going there to get shots of the town. But no they aimed all their cameras back at us for a long shot hahahahaha Made my day :D -

Yes, he definitely prefers his creature comforts to sleeping on frosty grass squashed up against the rabbit enclosure ..... funny that! The good thing is that when I went off to bed last night Dylan didn't attempt to get up on the bed with me. Just went to his own bed. So I was pleased about that. Of course they ALL got up there in the morning. As soon as I made any "I'm awake" move. Usually I disguise it well and get a few brief moments of wakeful relaxation before the onslaught of 3 hyper dalmatians, but this morning I got a horrific cramp in my calf muscle so I couldn't help but move and make a noise! So painful. -

Jessie - I'm so sorry you had such a horrible thing happen when you were having such a fabulous day with your puppy. I can well imagine how you felt. I would have been spitting chips!!! I would report it even though you don't know who the owners are. If they go out again with only those young girls "controlling" them someone else's puppy/dog/child might be the next victim and not so lucky. Also - if they go to that beach regularly - they will be able to find out who the parents are. It's not right that YOU should have to stop going there while these two dogs and their irresponsible absent owners get to treat the beach like their personal playground. I hope the pup is allright. As for picking the puppy up - I don't see that you could have done anything else. I certainly would have picked him up and got him out of there. What did the dogs do when you picked him up??? He is probably young enough to move on from this fairly easily - especially given he played okay with a dog later. It was a good move to play with him and make it all end positively I reckon! I wouldnt worry too much - and be careful not to project your own anxiety at the puppy around other dogs. He will pick up on it. Have a good stiff drink or a nice hot chocolate (depending on your preference) and hugs to you and the pup.

ummmmmm....... Dylan keeps disappearing (inside the house when the doors are shut) - I am doing my own thing when I think "Gee it's quiet." Look around - No Dylan! But as soon as I make a noise he appears from nowhere. It was a bit of a mystery so I snuck around and I just found out where he's been disappearing to... MY bed!!!! Norty Dylan. Do you think I'm creating a monster? -

Lousy little pieces of scum. I just want to lock them all up together on some island and let them go for it at each other. Sick to death of reading about these cowardly oxygen thieves. I really should try to avoid these threads they get me so upset. But even if I was strong enough to resist temptation - Jed you tricked me a bit with the title I thought it was an accident and a debate about the merits of having fireworks.

THanks sunny! What sort of dog do you have atm? Sorry Spotty, a little delayed on the good ol' reply. I currently have a Cavlier! We have fostered in the past and am taking it back up again. (picking the pup up on Friday) So he is used to having dogs around him. My concern isn't Oscar. My partner doesn't like the spots.. I LOVE THE SPOTS! What's not to like? ;) I had a cavalier King Charles (blenheim) when I was a kid - Pentass Premiere Lady was her name. How's that for a memory! Love the little dudes. ;) A lot easier to handle than dallies I must admit hee hee -

I dont care if it has a name or not. I just like to know who and what I'm dealing with. I still don't see any details about who they are or who makes the stuff. The site says "How lucky was l to have come across the product that is now packed for me". "Packed" for me? By who? Where does it come from? Where do the ingredients come from exactly? Are they human grade or just the scraps and nasty bits that have been "binned"? How do I know it's a safe product? Sorry but having been stung by online retailers and others in the past I now expect at the very least a postal adress, prefer a phone number and a registered business number is helpful. A physical address is even better but I understand why that's not always there. I also like to see much MUCH more about the food itself other than one person writing stuff on a website. Anyway, I'll see if I can find the other threads on it but at this point I personally would be wary of it.
