We took Erik ( and Islay, the bitch we are keeping ) to a show to-day, not entered, just for a look round. They were very good. Erik is " OK " on the lead.... their first show on the 27th will be interesting..... Chaos, but in a nice way. 2 sleeps to go for you RB..... unless we decide to keep him of course..... ONLY JOKING.... I bet we'd have the Friesan Mafia round to have a quiet talk to us.... Dave

  7. Any-one want to see Pics ? or is that a silly question ? Dave
  8. I too like to interfer as little as possible. We whelped a litter on Saturday night and basically I just sat and kept an eye on things. Near the end I did have to break a couple of sacks as the last 3 pups came out very quickly, but apart from this she did it all on her own and it is her first litter. Deerhounds are generally a very easy breed to whelp and usually know what to do. Having said that looking back over the years to our first litter, it was a lot more scary when we didn't know what was hpppening, I gues it's the same with most things the first time is always the worst. Good luck with your litter, Pam
  9. Very pleased to tell you that Brae, our Scottish Deerhound just had 8 pups, no dramas, apart from being a day late. Mum and pups all well and contented. Dave
  10. You could try asking the quarantine station in Sydney, I know the one in Melb often has large crates that dogs have travelled in that people don't want and they give them away. They would make good kennels for a smaller dog. Pam
  11. I think basing the cancellation of a show on a weather forecast 48 hrs beforehand is a bit extreme. The forecasters often can't get it right 24 hrs ahead let alone 48 hrs. Why not go for a forecast the evening before the show. I notice that Dogs Vic are still going to grab all their fees whether the show is held or not, typical!! Pam
  12. We have a litter of Scottish Deerhounds due on April 9th Sire is the dog we imported from Scotland, Gentiehun Prince Charlie ( pet name Chas ) Dam is Ch Jacobite Braehmor ( pet name Brae..... or Worm... don't ask....... ) We have been looking forward to/ planning this litter for a LONG time Dave ETA just had an Ultra-scan, yes she has puppies
  13. Thanks for the info, have to check the diary now. Pam
  14. I shall be going on the Sunday, helping out with the club stand, not showing but I'l have one of the scruffies with me. Pam
  15. I have to agree with most people here, for heavens sake whatever your problems on the day no one should abuse a child selling raffle tickets. Even if you are approached at the wrong moment, grooming you dog or waiting to go into the rinig, all you have to say is not now mate come back later. Surely most people realise that the money raised from raffles is what keeps most shows going. The lack of manners of some people today trylu appals me. Pam
  16. Basic rule of thumb for MOST dogs is that if you can easily feel their ribs they are about right. Remember this is not a one-size-fits-all rule.... Are they happy, fit, lots of energy ? This is good. Do they often leave food ? this is bad. They all have "sulky" days where they leave food, some breeds worse than others, some individuals worse than others... Hope this helps Dave
  17. The idea of PETAsetting up shop here is appalling and I don't think that they can be compared to Greenpeace who do have good intentions, PETA have none at all. If these people are openly talking of using violence and thuggery as ways of getting their own way couldn't the government class them as terrorists and ban them. But then perhaps I'm a bit silly for expecting the politicians to do something useful. Pam
  18. Of course it's perfectly possible to toilet train a puppy without using a crate. In the thirty years we have owned and bred dogs we have never owned a crate. The pups live for the first roughly eight weeks outside in the kennel/run and once they are able to walk and get out of the kennel they rarely mess in it. After that the one who is staying comes and lives inside with us they tend to follow the example of the other adult dogs here and try not to mess in the house, yes of course there is the odd accident, but really a little puppy wee or poo doesn't take much cleaning up. I know this isn't the fashionable way to rear pups any more, but it works for us so I'm sticking to it. Pam
  19. Hi Amy, will try to stop say Hello, we will have 3 Deerhounds..... Want to show one ??????? Come on... you know you do...... Otherwise I will have to...... NNNNNOOOOOOO.......... Dave
  20. SSSooo many times we get..... Oh look, an Irish wolfhound.......... The best was at a Royal... 4 teenagers walk past... One says.... Hey, what are they? His mate answers ( with complete conviction.... ) They are German Wolfhounds... Also got asked at last years Royal.... Do you sedate them so they stay that calm ? Boy and Brae were asleep in the same bench because they were bored...... Dave
  21. We've flown puppies and older dogs to most states and a couple overseas with almost no problems, really very minor. So what happened with you? Pam
  22. We are entered on Saturday and it will be our first time at Bulla, can anyone tell me what the parking is like. We won't be able to get there before about 9am, so with the big entry I am wondering how much room there will be. Thanks in advance Pam
  23. There is a Dingo centre in Vicotria run by Lyn Watson and her partner. The Web address I have for it is www.dingodiscovery.net, but I'm not sure how up to date this is. However if you googled dingodiscovery I'm sure you'a find it and they'd be able to help you. Pam
  24. Yes, I read about this on another forum I'm on, and everyone in the UK is rightly concerned about it. Whose going to pay for this new body, well breeders of course, you can bet that puppy farmers won't pay any thing. What sort of powers if it going to have, let's hope the RSPCA don't get their noses in this trough, but I bet they will. I think we dog breeders should keep a very close eye on this as what happens in the UK now will happen over here eventually. Pam
  25. My Deerhounds love playing with other Deerhounds and they can recognise one as soon as they see it. It's probably just as well as they can be very fast and rough when they play together. Pam
