Hi Mel and Chev, I don't have Sharpei but love the breed, I have found this site very informative http://www.drjwv.com/ Go to the Health Issues section and there is information on FSF and amylodosis. It might provide you with something until one of the Sharpei people come on here.

Urolithiasis Or Cystine/cystitus?
emilee replied to shoemonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The food won't work with Cystine Uroliths, they say it will but it doesn't stop them from forming and the alkaline urine that is created can predispose the dog to forming struvite uroliths, the dog needs to have any stones that are in his bladder removed and then he needs to be put on penacillamine tablets,(not the same as penacillin). He must triple is water intake and avoid foods high in cystine such as poultry. What state/ area is he in (pm me if you want and I can give you a good vet) There is also a cystine support group in yahoo - [email protected] unfortunatley much of their information is American, here is a website with more information for her http://www.caninecystinuria.com/ -

There is a website that documents the use of cod liver oil with eye ulcers http://www.yp-connect.net/~macman/eye/ you will have to copy paste that because I haven't mastered adding a link yet Having had recent experience with an indolent ulcer I know they can take forever to heal, just google "indolent ulcer" and it will give you heaps of information, some take up to six months to heal up. Your vet sounds like he knows what he is talking about, we ended up having the ulcer abraded, then a third eyelid flap done (under a general) The third eyelid flap acts as a "bandage" over the surface of the eye so that healing can take place. It worked wonderfully, when the stitches were taken out the ulcer was gone, this was after a month of ointments and creams and investigation of the eye. Good luck, I hope all goes well for you

Pierce a Vitamin E capsule and rub the contents into her nose twice a day - it moisturises and speeds up healing.

Such a beautiful old man, you were truly lucky to have had each other RIP Boffa

The worst that can happen (if they are predisposed to it) is acute pancreatitis. My aunt's dog broke into the oil container and that is what happened to her. Ring the vet to ask what signs to watch for

emilee replied to Ems's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Eagle Pack Holistic all 3 flavours rotated, some fresh meat and zwipeak for treats and training (the smelly venison and green lipped mussel ones) -
One of yours sucks a toy, the other head butts the crate till it tips over Ever so cute to watch Are you saying mine are a little strange Ah but at least they don't dig to China

Does she have something warm to snuggle up to in the bed, my pups have always loved the snuggle puppy with the heat bag but I have found that once the heat bag cools down they wake up cold. I now use a hot water bottle only half filled with the air squeezed out inside a padded fluffy cover - the heat seems to last longer.

Trying To Urinate Often With Only A Few Drops
emilee replied to benny123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ah ok so thats not the problem, the easiest way to get a urine sample from a girl if you want to save time tomorrow is to catch it in an old clean soup ladle and then pour it into a clean container. (and then keep the soup ladle for future urine catchings :D ) -

Trying To Urinate Often With Only A Few Drops
emilee replied to benny123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is she desexed - if not she may be coming in season which would account for the blood and the squatting often, the swelling that happens when they come in season can make them feel like they need to go more often but they also start scent marking at this time. Edit for spelling -
