    Great Dane

Out of interest can I ask what the average daily diet would be for a full-grown male and female Great Dane? I'm curious because although they're a large breed, they're not as active as some of the "smaller" large breeds (if that makes sense :D ).
  2. Try here http://www.dogwise.com/ I've used them a few times now and haven't had any problems (they're quick with postage too )
  3. I definately second this one - I received it in the mail (from Dogwise) last week. and love it. I'll order the others in the New Year.
  4. I think if you do a search you'll find a number of threads on behavioural/obedience courses
  5. These are two that I've got on order:- http://www.fordogtrainers.com/handcraftedl...ng-l3-13mm.aspx (24 inches) http://www.fordogtrainers.com/shortleather...bleash-l17.aspx (10 inches) Not quite the size you're looking for though, but worth a look
  6. OMG Seita, Ella's so focused!!!! What rewards do you train her with - food or play? Thanks smisch for starting this thread, it's a great idea
  7. No advice - all I can say is we had similar plans with ours. The two GSD's were supposed to be outside and the Goldie inside. We couldn't do it and now all three are inside . No jealousy problems and the GSD's are male and female, the Goldie is male (all are desexed).
  8. I did this and then forgot I had one more drop before fast pace. So when the judge said "forward" (which was still normal pace) it was obvious to all that I'd made a mistake trying to memorise the judges heel patern when I took off in fast pace instead :D
  9. And that's the problem isn't it I've managed to avoid the kennels for the last couple of years and so I have also avoided having my two older dogs vaccinated. However, I know they won't accept my dogs into their kennel unless I have their vaccinations updated (which I'm not keen to do). So unless you can find alternative care for your dogs when needed there really is no choice
  10. For those interested in these DVD's I've just had a look at the Dogwise site and they're on special at the moment :p
  11. Slightly OT - but for those wondering about Camp Tailwaggers it's on TV tonight on "Getaway" 7.30 on Channel 9
  12. I have the same goal for my girl - but wouldn't it be great to get that CD title too My "wish" is to get it with great scores So I'm making it public and every now and again I'll revisit this thread just to remind myself of this "Grand Plan"
  13. My GSD girl is just like Buddy and Kivi . I have three dogs and she's the youngest (11mths) and she alternates from one to the other inviting them to play, with them taking it in turns to keep her happy. I wonder what it would be like if we got my girl Indi, Buddy and Kivi together - ohhh what fun !!!!!
  14. Wow - I thought they were booked out in September!!!! A week to go and you still got in.
  15. I agree Erny, but when it looks like someone's shaved the side of your dogs neck you've gotta do something . I've been looking for a solution for a while because, as you said, most of these collars look thick/wide and therefore have a slow delivery of the correction. These are a couple that I decided against:- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT I like the Silent Training Collar not because it's "silent" but because it's thin/fine and therefore a quicker correction. That's the plan anyway Well the Silent Training Collar arrived yesterday (9 days delivery ) and after trying it today I have to say I'm happy with it. With the cord being so thin the rings slide as quickly as if it were a check chain, and yes without the "sound". My GSD seems to be working just as well with this collar and hopefully she will have a full coat on the side of her neck in the very near future
  16. Interesting article . I've never been comfortable with the idea of head halters and this article confirms my determination not to use one on any of my dogs.
  17. How'd you go at the vet's? My GSD has had hot spots in the past and they were extremely painful. Dogs with hot spots can have other skin problems and it may make a dog irritable and in Pete's case quick to snap - not making excuses, just looking for possible causes

  19. Go Zamba (and Zug Zug) As long as you're having fun, who cares how long it takes
  20. Hi DW, I know your heart's heavy at the moment and I just wanted to send you and Diesel - thinking of you both.
  21. I don't think it's fair to generalise like this - I too have worked in a vet surgery and it was a rare thing for a desexed dog to go home with blood around the wound site and dogs were not sent home unless they were fully awake. "Too many owners worry at the site of blood and/or a sleep, groggy dog." - I agree that under these circumstances the dog should be kept overnight. I do think however, most dogs (we're talking about male dogs) would be better off at home and supervised than stressing in an unattended vet clinic/hospital "I just don't think people should write off a vet that chooses to keep them in overnight- they obviously have their reasons and in most cases, they would feel its for the good of both the animal and the owner." I agree, and as I said previously it's probably best for OP to discuss their concerns with their vet and come to a mutual agreement that they both feel comfortable with
  22. And it's going to make a difference sending the dog home the following morning
