  1. The thing is, I don't have any magic and these two little ones are something right out of my experience . Today, the rescuer came over to help me bath and groom them. Well little Molly, although terrified, just stood on the non slip mat on the dining room table and let us brush her and cut out her knots. I'd been sitting on the floor trying to tempt them to come to me and after quite a while, was successful. Strawby just lay in my lap while I brushed her and cut huge knots out of her coat. She was in heaven. I tested her a couple of times by trying to move her off, but she stuck like glue . I fiddled with her feet, her ears, tail - nothing, perfectly at ease. I picked her up a couple of times and although she stiffened, she was fine to just settle back down into my lap. We then bathed Molly. OMG, the dear little thing. So terrified and yet so good. Strawby's turn. I managed to catch her, but the nightmare girl returned, struggling and fighting me, trying (and succeeding) to bite me. So we abandoned that. They just pushed themselves in a corner of the dining area and there they have stayed for the past six hours. Neither of them ate dinner, but luckily Strawby will eat raw chicken with her meds in. Molly has to have hers pushed down, which I hate doing, but she has to have them. They are too scared to want any interactions with my dogs yet, but hopefully the improvements will come.
  2. I'm with PK. The front yard was unfenced, so there are some points to investigate IMO. I can only assume, of course, but it is likely the dog has seen the cat many times, so I wonder what prompted this attack? Whatever the outcome, this is a horrible situation for both families and they have to continue to live next door to each other.
  3. Two new fosters today. I have had a couple of others since Leilah, but haven't put them up here. Lazy. These two are from a puppy farm rescue and the poor little things are the most nervous and timid dogs I have ever had, so I will have my work cut out here. Lots of little cuddles and TRY NOT TO SHOUT, CYNTHIA. No photos until they have been bathed, hopefully tomorrow. Suffice to say, they are more than overdue . I'd like to get them professionally groomed, but I think that would be too overwhelming for them. Two little girls: one a Yorkie X turning 6 at the end of December called Molly and the other a terrier cross turning 11 at the end of this month called Strawberry. This second little girl has a lot going on - luxating patellas in both hind legs and osteoarthritis. So lots of meds at this stage.
  4. Queen Keisha . Well done you gorgeous girl. You must be so happy, @ricey. Here’s to you having to buy more pigs’ ears. I would ditch the rawhide chews, though. I used to them to my dogs and then I read how they were made. . . . . .
  5. Oh no. Poor Apollo. Are you volunteering to swim for it ?? LOL
  6. Over the years, I have had three of these breeds and loved them madly. To be clear, the Papillon was a Chi x Papillon, tiny little fellow and 100% adorable. None of them had a mean bone in their bodies, but ALL needed constant grooming. Funnily enough I will be minding a Bichon next weekend and that will be a first. Keep an eye on the rescue pages, too, because SWF (small white fluffies) come up all the time because people don’t factor in the high maintenance aspect of their coats. I found the Maltese were the worst in this regard. Good luck and be careful of scams.
  7. Just gorgeous, LFF. Lots of fun and many happy years ahead
  8. I hope so, @persephone. They arrive next week.
  9. I have an overweight dog so I feed Royal Canin Satiety and all the dogs love it. I have to smash the kibble for my Pekingese, but the little fosters happily crunch down on it.
  10. Shame it wasn't the owner who was kicked in the head. No no, don't jump on me. Just fantasising.
  11. The "last one" is Leilah, @Kirislin, who will go to her new home in a couple of weeks' time. She is the best little girl, but has taken a while to find a home because she has diabetes. She has twice daily insulin injections and has to have regular updates to check glucose levels, etc. I hate giving her the injections because I don't have anyone to hold her and I know it hurt her. She twists and turns and rolls onto her back, so that makes it all the harder . However, she will have two new mums one of whom is also a diabetic and a vet nurse. On the up and up for Leilah
  12. I have heard reports from elsewhere and rescues are being inundated
  13. Those poor dogs. I'd really like to bang some people's heads against a wall hard and for a long time. Not a single thought of the dog and its needs, just their own selfish selves. Oh, I am so unhappy and lonely being shut up at home while the pandemic is raging, I'll get a dog. .
  14. Amazing, K. Such beautiful dogs and all so loved.
  15. Some of the best photos are of dogs at the beach Love it.
  16. The worst thing about DOL is how the years are catalogued as they pass by so quickly by the dogs we knew as xrays and suddenly they are middle aged. Beautiful girls and Soda. Always lovely to have your updates, K.
  17. Three things come to my mind. 1. Who ruled 30 minutes? . I see you have reduced the length of walks, because that was going to be my first suggestion. Dogs are individuals and a 30 minutes walk might be just right for one, too long for another and not nearly enough for another. Do you allow your dog to walk at his own pace? Do you let him stop and sniff, look around, enjoy himself? The walk is supposed to be for him and his needs. I live on a street that is in a very popular walking area; so many people seem to think a walk is one where the ambition is to get from A to B in the shortest time possible. Poor dogs. 2. Your comment, “Shoes are definitely not made for him,” made me laugh. Reminded me of the person who took her new puppy out for his first walk. She said that he didn’t like the lead and wouldn’t walk and never took him out again. What dog is born knowing what a lead and collar are? And in your case: what dog thinks that wearing shoes is a good idea? LOL. 3. I don’t like the idea of those stick on pads, particularly when your dog seems to have very sensitive feet anyway. But this is the first time I have heard of them so my opinion is based solely on looking on your link. But if rubbing alcohol needs to be used to remove any adhesive, I would be giving them a big miss. I think you need to find a nice, soft, grassy surface for your dog to walk on. Good luck.
  18. Hmmmmm, don't underestimate Aunty, Snickers. She might be a wake up to your machinations by now. But, I have to agree - buffets can be amazing.
  19. Size, I would imagine. Huge head. Big jowls. 260 pounds = VERY LARGE dog. Imagine a horse coming up and sniffing you. Hopefully you can turn things around, but the worst thing you can do is force it.
  20. OMG!! Snickers, you are one naughty doggy. Welcome to you and Natalie.
  21. So true, @asal. I recall my first vet telling me the story of people boarding 4 Maltese with him. Insisted they be kenneled together, all friendly and loving. He went in one morning and one had been mauled to death. What a truly ghastly experience. Dogs don't understand "thou shalt not kill." But we used to kill humans who killed (I know we are supposed to know it isn't right) and some dogs aren't fit to be around others because of breeding, mistreatment or whatever. Those who are stronger, ie humans, have a duty to those who are put in danger by these dogs. I am so over journalists who just want to sensationalise everything. They are supposed to report facts. Long out of fashion, sadly.
